bought a spare bike for cheap recently and stumbled on a wheel I tried to lace about 8 years ago, I thought id found a hidden gem in my stash but nope memories came flooding back and sure enough it wasn't rideable....Watched 3 tutorials and this one right here is the best. Thank you so much mate!
I reference this video often so I can recall how to build a simple wheel. I have used it for both 2 cross and 3 cross patterns without a hitch. Thank you!
Not going to lie I'm probably not going to do this anytime soon but this was a nice watch. I believe you have good low noise level for one of those silent fix videos.
Great explanation, thank you! There's just one thing I always struggle with, which is when you start lacing the second side, the hole "on the right" to it, is not one hole over but it's the same hole on the other side, but it's just a little offset to the right. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else but me, probably not. Sorry, don't know how to explain it any better.
Cheers I'll give this a try practicing for my upcoming bike mech so i need to learn how to do this been watching loads of videos but this is the best one I've found so far
Hi Jacob, nice video. I recently want to learn how to check the tension of the spoke on my wheel. Got a park tool Tm-1. Seems like it don really fit a 20" wheel. Are they are not the same tools?
hey when i tried trueing it some spokes would not stay in their place and i already did it wrong the first time and it was weird i can’t keep going past trueing because it keeps moving any tips?
Tried to do this method on a 20" rim with a hub and spokes of similar dimentions to the ones on the video. Somehow I ended up having some nipples too tight and others protruding from the rim. Any idea as to why could that be?
You’ll have to use different size spokes. Albes has a spoke calculator online that works well. If not Sapim has an online spike calculator that uses measurements of your parts to find the correct size!
@@sonnybikes Update some hours later: I did used three different calculators which all gave me the same result, so I made sure to use those. Turns out I wasnt paying attention to the valve hole and the distance from the spokes to the hub. It's looking great now
Ti is much stronger than steel for any situation where flex can occur. Spokes being one of those. Any breakage or nipples coming loose is likely an error in wheel building or possibly cheaply made spokes.
why do my nipples poke out of the rim. i just put together the wheel, and the spokes that get cross laced poke out a ton. i can’t put on the rim tape. so i don’t know what to do
@@sonnybikes i think that i forgot to organize the spokes, the flange that’s smaller i think thanks a longer spoke and opposite for the other side. awesome video tho!
hi. awesome video. just subbed. question please, as this is my frist time builing a whell. i have a folding bike, it is a 16 inch rim, with 28 holes, but the hub i have is a 36 holes. possible correct?
@@KamikazeCommie501 the way the wheel rotates doesn’t matter for the lace, it’s symmetric. The one rotating factor is to spin the hub before lacing the cross to open up the area for the valve so you can fit a pump or compressor
@@sonnybikes I'm making disc brake wheels and I read that they need to be stronger on the direction the braking force is applied. Should I be using a different lacing pattern or is this ok?
@@KamikazeCommie501 3 cross is going to be the strongest pattern! You can make both sides equally strong, if you were doing a mix of straight and cross it would be a different story. Just do 3 cross!
@@sonnybikes Ok thanks! I'll be back when I'm done to post more thank you's. I've been too scared to try this for 3 years because everything I saw made it look extremely complicated but this video finally gave me the confidence to give it a shot.
This is the best video on TH-cam for lacing 3 cross. Thank you 👍. Barry Nobles one is good too. The other videos miss explaining vital information.
Many thanks for this. 47 years old, been riding BMX since I was 6 and I just laced my first wheel !
Me too im 51 lol
36 here 😎
Best lacing vid on TH-cam
Benjamin Arreola thank you!!
Yes I tried at first by looking at another wheel 2 months later still not done then I figured TH-cam would teach me
Agreed
Wheel building is deceivingly easy. More people should build their own wheels!
I’m still trying after a couple days.. not for all

Everytime i need to lace a wheel I come to this vid my favorite video I would recommend this to anyone

Best lace tutorial ever, very clear and I've made it
Great, simple way to lace wheels. nice breakdown of the steps. Thank you
I agree
Helpful.
I was confused in which side to rotate.
I used this video to make a 28 inch hub motor wheel, easy to make and looks amazing. Thx!
Hell yeah!!
Best video so far. Thank you👍. After a few try's i was able to lace my 'practice' wheel. Now for the real deal.
JACOB HAGER sir this the video which I am looking.Great job SIR. FABULOUS.
Awesome tutorial just leased my first set for my Cook Bros Racing three bar cruiser
Thanks, building up a wheel for my wife's city bike right now. You couldn't have explained it any easier!
Took me a few trys but got it. Great tutorial.
Awesome! Thank you.
i cant put the spokes at 4th. i have to put them so that there is only one emtpy hole
Thank man I just laced my wheel up tonight case of you I tried a couple of other videos and they were trash, got it done in about 30 min
Nice job, best video out there to lace a wheel. All the other videos on this they just rush through on all the key spokes on where they go. Cheers!
Thank you for the detail on lacing a wheel even though mine are Fatbike 4.0 wheels this process works the same
laced my first wheel - thanks man!

This is such a well made video. Thank you. Building my first set of wheels.
Thank you Your video worked perfect for my wheel build thanks bro awesome job
top notch lessons. thanks!
Would the 184mm spokes fit the front wheel, yes my rims are 20inch, or would the 186mm fit the front tire
best video man! I subscribed

This is so simple thank you
Great Vid 👍. Did you do a follow up vid on truing the wheel?
Bro, how can I do it with 28H? Any advice?
This is the best video for lacing it but I messed up
Sweet video and very informative , is there a link for truing the rim ?
Not yet, working on it!!
Very good bro,
when you start doing the 3 cross you do over over under then you have to skip a hole and put it in the hole after you went under that 3rd spoke
Many thanks for this
Any differences between RHD and LHD?
@@bmxbasti as far as lacing the wheel? Nope! As long as you use the correct size spokes for drive side and non drive side!

what is the sizes of the spokes plus is the wheel 20 inches

Are there any translation for videos?
Can you do a strength test ti vs steel spokes , I’ve been wantin nog to get ti spokes but I’m a bit nervous on spending £60 per wheel
I had a wheel laced with ti spokes, the spokes came loose quicker than steal spokes. Strength wise I broke a bunch but that was due to doing grinder's

bro what is the size of those spokes ..😏😌
Thanks!
great video, where is the trueing video
You'd also have to dish, tension & then true it.
I have a 50mm rim help
