From the outset, it is clear to me that this is a true Mozart symphonic performance. The tempo and dynamic balance are just right. When played with a seemingly error-free interpretation like this one from the Berlin Philharmonic one can relax and concentrate on the beauty of the composition instead of being distracted by having to make criticisms. The 41st symphony and the 29th symphony are gems of the Classical period for me.
This is the 1966 release on Deutsche Grammophon, 139 002A, but it is missing the final movement. Only three movements. Side B featured Mozart's Symphony No. 33. At 13:13 is the original 1966 Deutsche Grammophon cover with a statue of Mozart.
29 symphonies at 18 years old? Jesus Christ. I'm eighteen and I'm just beginning to tackle my first symphony. Then again I wasn't writing music at the age of five.
Don't worry. Most of the 29 symphonies are preeeetty banal. This one, and the 25th are probably the only two I would consider 'good' from his early output.
トカゲの財団 Of course it's easy to call them banal 250 years later but they are brilliant in their own context. In fact, they might seem banal to you precisely because they inspired all the following composers who pushed music further in the 19th and 20th century to create the music you don't consider banal. So it's basically like calling the first computer ever ''lame''.
I agree. It is very well technically performed and also very well recorded, but I miss some more "feeling". I like this performance much much better, it is "finer": th-cam.com/video/2JUeRgJM6hs/w-d-xo.html

how is it going? did you finish the first symphony? put it up when you finish.
Mahler didn't write his first until he was 28 and finished his second at 34.

No no no....Forget Herbert von Mantovani. Slurred phrasing and ultra smooth sound. Thank goodness things have moved on..!

Nice I have to play that on my violin
Amazing , I'm waiting to hear you play it
Throne-Symphony 1

I'd be cool if the final movement was included with this recording. Its listed in the description. Weird.
Where is the last movement? Seriously...
(WOLFGANG WAS EIGHTEEN) (HE HAD LADIES ON HIS MIND) (AFTER ALL HIS FIRST NAME STARTED WITH "WOLF" !!!!!!!!!
Beautiful symphony but I don't like the version from Karajan. I prefer other ones that are played a little slower and with more feeling.
I'm the opposite. I love the attack of the fourth movement by Karajan.
Displace one note, and there would be diminishment. Displace one phrase, and the structure would fall!
Right....Something's missing!
Effete reading
What an oddly structured comment section... great music though
"the symphonies written by the 18-year-old Mozart" - please don't beleive in fairy tale...
Karajan's Mozart a bit heavy for my taste. He's better with composers like Bruckner, Mahler, Wagner.
Bruckner.
