    Fiore approves it!
    One of the most realistic sword fight in cinema history.
    No cuts through armour.
    Fighters use everything, that can brings victory - daggers, pommel, wrestling.

    • @Le_Rappel_des_oiseaux
      @Le_Rappel_des_oiseaux 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, yes, but actually no) The camera work spoils the impression a little, plus for some reason all the movements looks "fake", not in full speed, not accented, IMHO. This is obvious even when comparing this film with other videos of the authors of the film, for example, where they showed techniques in HEMA. So this is not the best fencing in the history of cinema, but it's still cool.

    • @XonixDerps
      @XonixDerps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Le_Rappel_des_oiseaux That does make me wonder why this is.. perhaps they didnt plan out cinematography alongside very well?

    • @k.v.7681
      @k.v.7681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@XonixDerps My guess would be effects and shortcomings in direction due to the length of the video. Not that it's badly directed, but keeping a sense of unity in the film cuts when displaying multiple fights is HARD. Most Hollywood movies fail at it. The spectator, subconsciously, will always try to make sense of space and time. The (hard) job of the director is to allow that with ease. There's also the notion of choreography that plays in it. The bigger it gets (and this one is far beyond the scope of a single duel) the harder it gets. matter of coordination, logistics, reshoots for different angles and splitting the recording to make it fit.... that's entering the editor's territory after filming.
      As for effects: they were lightly protected for the purpose of the video. Which changes the choreography as well. They have a duty to themselves and their fellow performers for safety first and foremost. Their Fiore series allowed them more protection, and, being shorter videos, also allowed for a set of camera triks that hid the finality of most moves. Longer media makes you use a bigger variety of angles (so as to not bore the audience), making you run out of the few tricks you can use to hide. They also don't enjoy thousand-dollar safe props and cgi.
      For showmanship, they also sacrificed probable for feasable. Which is ok by me, even if it might make die-hards frown (which is understandable to a degree)
      All in all it's still a worthy piece of media in what they were trying to accomplish.

    Just watched it with my daughter, showing her the Fiore techniques I taught her put in actual use. When Sonia readied that stick with her knife behind her back, she said "that's gonna hurt" :-)

  • @soldierorsomething
    @soldierorsomething 3 ปีที่แล้ว +90

    wow a movie were people getting wounded actually affected their performance and it was so nice to see that some hits got blocked by armor (21:45) so the defender could focus on landing a hit on the attacker (Also Piotr getting punched to death with gauntlets was a nice touch of realism)

    • @patrickdusablon2789
      @patrickdusablon2789 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree! Harness being used the way it should be! Against someone who's unarmoured, harness is a weapon in its own right, and I am so damn tired of seeing armour on screen that might as well be made of tissue paper for all the good it does!

    I can not express how much I enjoyed this. The fight choreography was slowed down enough to be able to tell a story. But not so much, as to be cliché. This story felt real and impacted. Like how when the guy in armour appeared. The younger fighers were intimated, and the grizzled veteran met his opponent calm and calculated. All the fighters just felt human, nothing over glorified. In a way simplistic yet, Exhilarating.

Needless to say, I was positively surprised. There is just enough plot to make the whole thing move forward, the fighting scenes do not overshadow it all, there is some character development and it's simply a good job.

    Nicely done. It's so satisfying to see fight-choreos done by practioners.

    I've just seen a vast part of your hilarious captions! Guys, to me you are the epitome of traditional swordmanship and cortous, chivalaresque craftmanship! I honor and humbly bow my knee to your efforts!

    Excellent!
    Poland has one of the most interesting histories of any country in Europe. Surrounded by aggressive states in all 4 directions. Moskovie/Russian Empire, Austrian Duchy/Holy Roman Empire core Land, and Denmark and Sweden from north. The Polish people has survived perhaps most while maintaining a national identity. -Bravo!

    I really, really enjoyed this. It was so well done. And I didn't expect to become so invested and care about the characters this much. The fight scenes in the forest were great but I might actually love the scenes where they're talking at the table even more. I really liked the dialogue and the little hints of insight into the characters' personalities, and the relationships between them. I would love to see a full length film continuing with these characters and their storylines. The ones that survived I mean.

      The more I watch this movie the more I pick up on the characters. That guy with the scar is obviously religious, seeking some kind of redemption. I'm wondering if he was a mercenary or an assassin for hire. The shorter-haired girl seems to have something to prove. More a fighter like the men. She's colder and more business-like, revenge is more important to her than anything. There's a couple looks between her and the guy with the scar, almost as if he sees what she's becoming. I noticed she even gets a scar on the same side of her face. The archer sister is softer. There are signs that there is something between her and the main guy. I think a lot of this is summed up when the guy with the scar is naming out the gold coins. I'm just impressed with what you guys were able to convey.
