Thing is that the stuff Jon nails them on is the basics of any business. Safe environment for customers, cleaning standards, keep supplied with product, and be friendly to customers. It's simple stuff but it's also amazing how few owners realize it.

Most of the businesses fail after Jon leaves. There's you can only do so much, and the clout for being on TV runs its course. Also yous be surprised how easy it is to slip through the cracks of regulations as a business owner
@@tinyky2598 A lot of the ones that do are the ones that go back to their old ways once he leaves. One of them even brought back the crusty old decorations he took out and threw out the brand new shit it was really crazy.
Fun fact Jon can't legally wear a seat belt because whenever he smells lost profits he has to burst through the nearest SUV door, and the collateral damage from the seatbelts snapping and flying off at high speeds was too much for the city to cover, so they had to enact an emergency provision to keep Jon from being strapped down at any time.

I do watch these episodes over and over again. I worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years in every department. I also took professional qualifications in this area. It's extremely hard to make money in this industry at the best of times but if you can't man manage, keep your hygiene standards and portion control you are absolutely done .
Staff training seems extremely lacking. Also giving drinks away for free IS STEALING !!!!!

What people do today is they wait to exploit naive good workers so they can pay them less while complaining that the other good workers quit and move on.
It happens to big companies a lot. All the good workers get paid well as the company grows then things plateu. The higher ups start cutting worker pay and benefits. The good workers leave because they can find work easier elsewhere and the company slowly very slowly tanks. The good workers that stay are the ones that are naive and belive in "loyalty" to a company that would fire you to save money without a thought.

I think the issue is that the definition of stealing to them is directly taking something without paying for it out of their own pocket. That’s the main definition that comes to their head when they hear stealing. So, since you have two different parties who have two different definitions of the same word, there’s likely to be conflict especially if those definitions aren’t clarified. Because of that, I can’t think ill of her too much. But yeah, she should’ve rung people up. And the owners definitely should’ve tried to fix the staffing issue.

The Pirate bar always infuriates me every time it's brought up. The owner was a grown woman, has a daughter, is or was married, I forget if the chef was her husband or bf, it was said they don't have their own house, they lost it because they couldn't pay bills and were living in her mother's basement, and they fought tooth and nail to play pirate until it eventually closed down after they changed it back. Just the selfishness of the couple, and the employees, to value playing pretend over making money, and to provide a decent life for their daughter... it just sickens my stomach every time I see them.
She actuly Opened another bar called Bar Refuge which was sold in 2018. And she and Juciano and her daughter where apart of a recon (see people who joined the Bar rescue team)
it's nice to see the one who were very shit end up doing good and they actually turn their life(lives) around. makes Jon work to help them not in vain

There should be a compilation of “Back to the Bar” moments of failing bars. Bars that didn’t meet or stay up to standards after the rescue. With or without Taffers help.

Spoken like a true defense attorney, absolve yourself of all responsibility. As the owner of the bar, ultimately the failure falls on your shoulders. Lead by example, not by shirking responsibility.
Watching these makes me really appreciate my local go to bar. Clean, good service, respectful people and management who actually cares and is present. Just seems normal to me. But seeing these, makes me realize they're special.
And to think my local fucking moose club is like this shit…

In the full episode, they melted all the ice out of the machine, and one of the employees climbed right inside the bin to clean it. That's probably not the approved method, but full points for taking the job seriously and getting it done.
@@DaddyBeanDaddyBean did they have the machine running when he jumped in to clean it? I have had to do it a couple of times and the manager kept the machine on so it stayed cold but not producing ice it was torturous

To have an incredible opportunity to have John Taffer and his team to redo and improve your business and then run it into the ground a second time you have to be totally incompetent.
He took what taffer gave him and used it to develop and run other bars. He couldnt care less about the staff and their livelyhoods so long as he could fiddle-fuck away from the smoldering rubble he created and seemed practically giddy at throwing Gary under a metaphorical train as the sole scapegoat

I don't know how The Dugout episode ended but I wish Jon was able to buy out Ed and then hire a proper manager to run that bar. Those girls seemed to work super hard and didn't deserve that
Part of the contract of Bar Rescue is that if the business does go under after Jon renovates it, it becomes his property, usually he gets locals to work there and have a certain percentage of profits go to him to pay for the renovation. So no doubt he got the girls back together after Dugout went under.

Whenever I hear "i can't do everything" when the employees are asked why their work stations/equipment/store furniture aren't cleaned it's so INFURIATING...
I worked as a barista in a store that got around 180 customers in two hours during our rush times (8-10, 1-3), and all of this basic cleaning alongside prep work, FIFOing, (opening/closing tasks) is like half of the job. And inventory, if we have time. Also how the hell is the sanitation dep not going to town on them? (bribes and general incompetence, prolly)

One sad thing about shows like this is that no matter what you do, even if you make them correct their mistakes, it's really likely they're gonna mess it up again in the long run.
Eh but what Jon is really trying to do is teach them how to come back from that. Thats why the “But you did, didn’t you?” speech is one of my favorite bar rescue moments. He calls people out for their failures in the business, shows them what success looks like. Matter of fact that’s probably the best part, Jon Taffer didn’t have to come back but he did because the guy slipped back into his old habits. When you think about it from that perspective though, I do admit, it makes Jon Taffer sound like a life coach with bars so maybe I’m missing something here.

for the pirate one, you could dress up around Halloween or I think there are some historical days that deal with pirates and drinking. LIke don't do it all the time, yet just for certain days. or change it from a bar to a themed restaurant/play area.
They did away with all the changes and went back to a pirate bar - went out of business, of course. They posted a video of themselves burning the new sign and basically saying f Jon Taffer. Hateful people.
