  • Hey!
    Thanks for watching my review of the PRS Angelus A60E Acoustic/Electric guitar! I recently found this guitar after months of trying guitars from the more popular brands (Martin, Taylor, Gibson) and not finding something that I was looking for.
    This guitar is a great combination of beauty and great tone all at a pretty affordable price. Also, check out the PRS Tonare, the non-cutaway version of this guitar.
    I cannot stress enough how much I love the Fishman pickup - I don't even have to EQ this thing live.
    I’m a musician in Austin TX - watch my livestream shows on Twitch multiple times a week here: / mandyprater
    [I mainly play this PRS acoustic guitar so you can see it live or watch one of my many other videos here on my channel, many feature me playing this guitar acoustically (mic'd with a RODE NT-1) or through the pickup for looping]
    SPECS for PRS Angelus A60 E.
    BODY Angelus cutaway body shape; solid Sitka spruce top with hybrid X/classical bracing; ziricote back and sides; abalone and figured maple purfling; natural gloss polyurethane finish
    NECK 25.3″-scale mahogany neck, wide-fat shape; 20-fret ebony fingerboard with bird inlays; 1.69″ nut; chrome sealed gear tuners; natural gloss polyurethane finish
    ELECTRONICS Fishman GT1 with volume and tone controls
    OTHER Ebony bridge; bone nut and saddle; hardshell case; light gauge (.012-.053) strings
    PRICE $1,099 (MAP)
    MADE IN China

    You are absolutely correct about all of it. I just bought the exact same guitar after playing tons of Taylor’s. This one by far sounded so much brighter and fuller and more beautiful as well. ❤️🤘🏼

    Update: 10 months after buying the guitar, I still love it and it is holding up beautifully. Still recommend. I also updated my PA so I'm using an EV Evolve 50 now and the guitar really shines through. Maybe I will do a review of that as well.

      Excellent review Mandy, I am looking into buying this model- How is the set-up/action is it easy to Barre-Chord? Did you feel you needed to lower the bridge or make any set-up adjustments with it? Thank you- JohnB

    • @mandyprater
      @mandyprater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@luckyrocks1Thanks for checking out my review - I didn't do any adjustments. Played beautifully right out of the box. The action is kind of low but I don't mind that. No buzzing. I am not super good at barre chords but this is easiest to do barre chords of all my acoustic guitars. Also, and I can't stress this enough, the pickup sounds phenomenal compared to anything near this price.

      What do you like about the plugged in sound of this PRS compared to other guitars you've tried?
      A lot of the Martin and Taylor's always seem too "harsh" and "tinny" to me to the point I usually have to EQ out most of the highs and mids on my PA.
      I'm looking for a balanced tone that is more warm than bright when strumming chords with a pic. Would you say this AE60 does that?

    • @mandyprater
      @mandyprater  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beejetay definitely! That’s exactly what I was looking for as well - the plugged-in sound of this guitar is closer to what you would expect a mic’d guitar to sound like, rather than many pickups which sound like maybe too close-up to let the tones develop before amplifying the sound. That’s the best way I can think of describing it. My only complaint is that there is not a 3-band EQ like some guitars have on them, just the tone wheel, which I usually leave most (if not all) of the way up. But even with less adjustments available, it sounds better than most anything else I’ve tried. I do bump up the lows and turn down the highs just a touch in my mixer for live gigs. But I like a very full and deep sound for my solo gigs.
      Hope this helps! Thanks for checking out my review!

    Hi there Ms. Prater! Thanks for the review and demo on this PRS A60E, I am seriously pursuing getting one in the next few weeks. Same as you, I tried Taylor's and Martin's and a few others, but none seem to have the robustness AND value that I want (as amazing as they sound, I can't justify $3500 for a Taylor 814 or a Gibson J-45 ,etc.). I just the love the well roundedness of all the tones from this guitar! From your most recent videos, it looks like you are still using this A60E quite regularly, yes? Can you tell me what strings (brand, gauge, features) you are using or have used before? Or in this video (I know, I know it was 3 years ago ... I can't hardly remember what I did yesterday, let alone 3 years ago!)? Also, how has the top fared without a pick guard all these years?
    Thanks much! Hope I can catch a show this summer when I'm in Austin!
    Best,
    EG

    • @mandyprater
      @mandyprater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Erik - not sure I replied - sorry about that! I use Elixir 11-52 Nanoweb coated strings so they are easier on my fingers and last quite a while. The fact that there's no pickguard has not resulted in noticeable scratching. There's a pretty thick shiny coating on the guitar, so that might help. May depend on an individual's playing style.
      Check out my website for show dates if you'll be visiting Austin! Thanks! mandypratermusic.com

    I’ve been looking at these guitars but I’m trying to find one that looks proportionate to my body (sometimes I look like an 8 year old holding his father’s guitar, since I’m only 5’6”). Could I ask how tall you are and does this guitar feel comfortable as far as sizing goes? Thanks for posting this vid.

    • @mandyprater
      @mandyprater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Cesar- thanks for watching my review. I am about 5’5” so I understand about wanting it to feel comfortable. In my band The Mrs, I play a jumbo Gretsch Rancher Falcon, and while it’s an extremely beautiful and eye catching guitar, it’s so big that it would sometimes give me shoulder problems, especially when playing sitting down. I considered getting the new Gretsch penguin, which is a slightly oversized parlor guitar version of the falcon, with the same flashy looks. But I wasn’t sure that the sound would be big enough. You might like something like that if you want a more compact guitar. There’s a guy Patrick Sampson who plays one and he sounds great - you might want to check him out too: th-cam.com/video/WnROuGhS1NM/w-d-xo.html - I really like my guitars to have a warm deep bottom end and to project loudly. This PRS acoustic guitar is normal sized, but not overly deep or large-bodied. It’s a little smaller than a typical dreadnought body. I haven’t found it to be uncomfortable to play, and have played 3 hour shows with it, seated. It also has a comfortable neck and the reach isn’t too far to get to the lower frets. I think you’d like it. :)

Thank you for this review. Your point about where its made is definitely relevant and often turns away some potential buyers but all it takes is hearing this guitar and then that consideration doesn't even cross your mind.

    What gage of strings come standard with this geetar? and are they PRS strings?

    • @mandyprater
      @mandyprater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @eagletkc thanks for the question -
      PRS website states that it comes with .012-.053 strings, not sure if they were PRS strings, but probably. I didn’t realize they produced their own strings until I looked for the answer to your question.
      I use Elixir Nanoweb .011-.053 usually. I’ve now owned this guitar for 3.5 years and probably put 1200-1500 hours of playtime on it. Still love it and I haven’t even had it serviced that whole time (can’t let it out of my sight!) and it still sounds great. Just yesterday I got a compliment from a sound guy at my gig on how great the guitar sounded. (Fresh strings help!)

    I like the review, i just have a couple of questions. Ive been wanting to check one out in person, but been to a couple of guitar centers and no luck. So, i was wondering with the bracing if the tonewood amp would work on it. Also, wanted to know if the neck is similar to feel of the PRS electrics. Its between this guitar and the yamaha transacoustic.

    • @mandyprater
      @mandyprater  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Charlie thanks for checking out my review - Totally understand about wanting to try in person first! If you have any independent higher-end guitar stores nearby, you might have better luck there finding one to try. I believe the neck is the wide fat neck which is the updated shape of recent years. I feel the neck is to me a bit wider than the electric of my S2 Mira but that could be my imagination. You might find some useful info here if you are comparing guitars from different eras / models: www.mooreguitars.com/prs-neck-profiles/
      To me I would say soundwise, I haven’t tried the Yamaha so I’m not sure. But this guitar sounds amazing to where I get compliments often, both live, and during my livestream shows. But it depends on your usage probably! I have not used a tonewood amp so I’m not sure about how they interact with the bracing, but here is a picture of the bracing - to me I would think it would be better than most, but again I have no experience with tonewood amps. Hope this helps! images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrEzNxqY.ZgkG0ATxqInIlQ;_ylu=c2VjA3NyBHNsawNpbWcEb2lkA2RiMGQ3YjQ2NWM5MmRhNmNlZGNhMjZiYTI1OTU5OWYyBGdwb3MDMQRpdANiaW5n?back=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dprs%2Bhybrid%2Bx%2Bbracing%26fr%3Diphone%26fr2%3Dpiv-web%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D1&w=1200&h=526&imgurl=i0.wp.com%2Facousticguitar.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2015%2F11%2F2_bracingstyles.jpg%3Fresize%3D1200%252C526&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Facousticguitar.com%2Fgear-review-prs-se-angelus-a60e%2F&size=52.8KB&p=prs+hybrid+x+bracing&oid=db0d7b465c92da6cedca26ba259599f2&fr2=piv-web&fr=iphone&tt=Gear+Review%3A+PRS+SE+Angelus+A60E&b=0&ni=21&no=1&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=a3.CYLaa.Ksm&sigb=cRSVYPmOWcH.&sigi=7fCUlrRnOjYx&sigt=0wK5d2uIN6Xq&.crumb=GxpEBsAMzSs&fr=iphone&fr2=piv-web
