I've always thought that Quinns biggest weakness is that he isn't as sturdy of a person as Makar is. He's just easier to move off of the puck than Makar is. This is most noticeable in the defensive end, but Quinn has made up for this a lot with his skating ability, especially this season. The difference between the two has always been overstated, and it helps a lot when you play with Mack and Rantanen your whole career.
All the Hughes bros learned skating from their elite skating mama. I'd say it's the one thing he's got that's clearly better than Makar. I think in the back of your mind you know that because you kind of waffled on the question haha. But ya as long as Makar has one more Con Smyth and one more cup than Hughes, got to give the nod to Makar. What an epic storyline that would be if Hughes evened the score in terms of hardware.

What I will say about Quinn Hughes is that he is a year younger and we know that Defenceman is one of those positions like a wine, takes time to see a full development of the potential with many D-men really only hitting their stride in the late 20's. It does make you wonder how scary good these two will be with a couple of more years under their belt. Having said that Hughes has one less year and until this year hasn't had the kind of team around him that Makar has had. That might be a difference maker in terms of some of these stats. It is easier to be good on a well rounded team. The difference being that on a weak team, gaff's in D coverage are more likely to end up in the back of your net and it is far harder to be an offensive defenseman on a team doesn't have a good offense. Is it any wonder that all of a sudden on a decent team, this player is just now getting the kinds of considerations that Makar has had for the last few years.
Only thing hughes can do better is passing and in defense they are same good hughes had 2 points more than makar but hughes played 5 games more so cale is way better ovr

Sorry but it’s not even a question. Even if Hughes wins the Norris (which I wouldn’t agree with but that’s a separate issue), Makar is a unicorn
