I have bought maybe 5 of the cheap lights from ebay and like them all but they don,t last. Everyone just stopped working. I discovered how good the bright lights are and sprung for a good quality one. The deal is, when you need a flashlight you need it to work and the cheap ones can not be depended on.
You are trying and i see that, you have so much potential! The only thing holding you back is your attitude and i can definitely see your passion in your youtube career. If you change the tone of your voice to sound happier you would be great! Thats all i can say and keep it up!
I'm looking at a CREE Led flashlight that I bought at my local Costco Warehouse well over a year ago. They were sold in a pack of 3 for around $20 I believe. They are of similar style to the Atomic, except for the absence of the SOS feature. But the thing that caught my eye was the size of the LED appears to be the same as that in your fake ebay purchase. Could it be an older CREE Led is being used?
Cree produces several lines of leds. I have a bunch of Ultrafire flashlight in a few different designs. The brightest of them has a cree x-ml t6 led, and delivers around 1000 lumens. I bought it on ebay 3 or 4 years ago for 12 bucks shipped, and including 2 lithium cells and a charger. I think those kind of bargains are a thing of the past unfortunately.
The main difference betwen the EBay no names and the Atomic Beam / Bell and Howell Tac Light is indeed the LED. The more expensive Tac Light and Atomic Beam both use genuine CREE leds. They appear to be XM-L2s. I have both as well as 4 EBay Knock offs and the Atomic and Tac both are indeed brighter than the eBay no names. You especially see this in a completely dark place and with the flashlights zoomed in. They cover a nice area in flood mode. They kind of suck in zoomed mode with their little square led covering a very small object in the distance... Decent lights overall, but unless you use a quality lithium 18650, they lose that brightness pretty darn quickly...
Hey Steve, thanks for all your work on the videos. Just fyi, even the "original" Atomic Beam, is a rebranded generic Ultrafire/Trustfire body. The led quality seems to vary on a brand by brand basis. You can ditch those expensive batteries and take a few 3.7v 18650 lithium cells from one of those old laptops you have laying around. Most of your battery packs should have them inside. Each light will hold one 3.7 lithium cell. Chargers for the 18650 cells are on ebay for a few bucks.
the cree LEDs come in T1 -T9 i believe the cheap ebay (CLONES) ones normaly use the T1,T6 or sometimes t2 led. imo for the money the clones are better. the icb boards are all made in china thats why they all have the same faults, also the button comes from china too and will normally stop working. i picked 2 clones up with the T6 LED, with the x2 rechargerable charger and battery for around £9 maybe 14$ for both. they have still to let me down, but for the same price to buy 1 you can get 3 with the chargers and batterys, thats a good deal.
alotta of these lights look similar .i got the beam too.and a beam replacement.its a diff light had orange pushbutton but is a compatible lite i reckon
The cheap E-Bay Knock Off had a better beam because it was round instead of square. You should have zoomed them both out and also went outside at night where there are no lights to compare the 2.
After the Shadowhawk and other brands listing "XPE" LEDs (Shadowhawk itself claims "XPE-800"), this appears to be an Atomiclone that really comes with an XP-E LED. More likely than not, it's a LatticeBright XP-E, not a genuine Cree. Since the XP-E maxes out at ~300lm (XM-L2, the one in genuine Atomic Beams and other Atomiclones, can handle 3500lm+, and is usually driven at ~1000lm in single-18650 lights), it's not even gonna get close to rated lumen output.
Interesting, it almost looks like the clone has a more focused beam, of course I'm looking at it through the eyes of your camera so... It'd be interesting to know if one has a longer battery life than the other, that might be where the more expensive flashlight might shine (pun intended.) Otherwise I'd be hard pressed to spend $16.00 more for the Atomic one. With all this said though, I can't buy these flash lights due to the strobe. If only they'd allow you to disable it or offer one with low, med, and high brightness...

There is only one way to settle this: Torture test

Try an 18650 cell in the impostor flashlight. I have the atomic beam and use 18650 lithium ion battery in it.
Great Video!!
