The radiators are removed and a rudimentary radiator set up is usually placed alongside or behind the engine. The roll cages are called 'H' cages and are bolted from floor to roof and side to side. The petrol tanks are removed and a petrol can is usually bolted to the H cage. The battery is also usually bolted to the H cage as are the seatbelts. There is nothing behind the H cage so the car can crumple. The driver's door has thick plate. Hits to the driver's door are banned. Many cars have a plate bolted to the front part of the roof to strengthen that. Steering columns are usually bolted or welded into place to prevent movement. The underside of the driver's floor is usually strengthened. There is a heck of a lot more that goes into these builds. There is a video of an Irish guy preparing a Nissan Micra somewhere on TH-cam. I think it took him 3 weeks to build the car.
Looking forward to the bws again this Sunday I have the pleasure of Marshalling again 🙂
Cheers from Australia, really enjoy the video
