It's been probably 10 years since l had a hearty stroll through this album....I'm 47 now...bought it when l was 18. The tight tech skill of this man, let alone the lyrics and beat, l sure took for granted when l was younger. This song is as pure hardcore and relentless as gangster rap pretty much ever got. 30 years later the people involved in the various authorities that tried to shut Ice-T (and NWA) down are long forgotten while he remains more respected, active and relevant than ever. Flawless sledgehammer of a track.
I reckon there are very few hip hop albums as solid and consistent as this one. From start to finish it follows a theme and each song whilst sounding raw is meticulously produced with some superb turntable work. The lyrics are vivid, concise and articulate. I bought this album when it came out, i was 18 and I still listen to this now. There are so many great tracks on this but if i had to choose i'd go for Mind of matter and Escape from the killing fields.
THAT'S FOR SURE. THE LYRICAL CONTENT JUST EXPLODES AND STRAIGHT AWAY YOU PICTURE WHAT HE'S SAYING. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM FUCKIN BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
You can say that again today's rap isn't that good compared to rap from the 1990's I am a white guy and I love rap from back in the day when I was in my 20's I am 54 now and I still listen to this stuff
Always a lifelong Ice-T fan, this song is by far my favourite track he put out. Just a sick beat and Ice's unmatched rhyming. Over 20 years old and still solid
1 of the BEST Gangsta Tunes Ever from 1 of the BEST Gangsta Albums ever OG. ICE T doesn't get enough props 4 being 1 of if not the originator of Gangsta rap.
No denying ICE T O.G GANGSTA PIMP STORYTELLING STYLE is 2nd too none but ive never thought he gets the amount of RESPECT he DESERVES. He was GANGSTA before NWA, SNOOP, EAZY & everyone knows this but still when documentaries show history of rap u would think NWA came bursting on the scene 1st.
LOL But he was more East Coast though. I mean whether you like it or not, his gangsta NJ upbringing influenced his music. He talked about NY rappers a lot! His production crew was East Coast.
Adam Jackson - Not just that, but he listened to a lot of hard rock that totally influenced that heavy sound. Like he used Black Sabbath samples, and he looped the break of of that old Heart song Magic Man and made a song outa that. That blew my mind the first time I heard it. Yeah, sound wise he always had more in common with fucking PE than any of the west coast rappers. With the possible exception of Too Short, but Short Dog always did his own thing and didn't really follow trends.
OG Original Ganster, best album EVER, every song on this album, could be made into a move, lyrical rimes that tell the story total props Ice, the true OG
+DeLaFey1777 Not heard Invasion in years but I didn't like it much at the time so I'll probably not bother listening again even if that does sound lazy. Iceberg was good, at the time and so was POWER but I think OG was his most complete album with no turkeys.
I think OG was a great record, but I am biased because Iceberg and Power were my first exposure to HipHop as a five-year old, so for me they take precedence. Can't go wrong with either of them, though.
WOODYMACK66 - Listen to Goran bro, he's telling you like it is. When me and my friends (musicians, song writers, sound engineers, etc.) talk about hip hop from then there are only a few names that we still talk about. Public Enemy, The Ghetto Boys, but more than any of them it's Ice-T who we rock to. I learned more about writing lyrics listening to Iceberg then just about anybody else.
Goran Hrastovik * Yep asking kids now who the best artists are is basically pointless since most have never even heard a proper O.G album just this bubble gum version of what passes for Rap, R&B nowadays but is basically teen pop. Go back at least to the 90's for some decent Rap music to listen to. How sad it is to say that but its true.
You can tell that Ice T lived that life and meant what he said unlike a lot of sucker MC's at the time who we're just putting up a front trying to be something that they weren't.....😂
I can still listen to ice t 20 years on the og album is in my car my wife likes it too her fave is origanal gangster the cd is the one i bought 20 years ago. Pulse of the rhyme has real flow and hard lyrics. Ice t really appealled to me as i came from the hard streets of a little village in the midlands uk "congerstone" lol. there were three of us at school that liked rap one of them didnt like ice t he was into ice cube So it shows his taste. Cypress hill came along and well i listen to them every week and ice cube can you know what ice cube can do
This is crazy...it's 2024 and it's the first time I heard this...never seen this video on Rap City/MTV Raps...I'm here bcuz a dj just through this in a mix but my Shazam wasn't catching this so I had to type in the chorus to find this
A STAND OUT & Juggernaut of a track perfect as an example into old school Westcoast Gangsta Rap. The whole album is simply a Masterpiece.***WESTSIDE***
Not a huge rap fan, but this album is a masterpiece! I wonder if Esham was an influence on this track? Also, had no idea Pulse of the Rhyme had its own video.
Yes sir the production on this album was beautiful my favorite by far , but I think Ice T had far more influence on Esham ,than he did on Ice T ,this track is dark ,but E's stuff still was a lot darker, Satanic Even.
One of my top 5 fav of ICE T. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM FUCKIN BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM FUCKIN BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM........ "STEP UP ID LOVE TO OPEN YOUR CHEST UP..... .... JASON TALES OF THE CRYPT AND THE DARKSIDE"
Yo everyone, Comin from South Africa , race means a lot especially your longevity. I decided as a hardcore hip hop lovester, this rap explained my life, cold, needing to! Skinnier than anyone in the hood. Picked on for my ponytail. Etc. Fuk all day. ICE is someone that expressed my life in this rap. I should Pay him and Alladin and Donald D Royalties....... It's much deeper though, Tip of the ICE BERG'. I'm from where the Great Whites grow..........,... history? Naa man it's life. I need a butcher knife.
There was me and my mate phill in to rap at school in 1993 at 13 14 yo and ice t was the one then in the midlands uk there was another kid but he liked ice cube. This still sounds right now
Ice T, Ice Cube, and Will Smith caught some of the most criticism in the 80’s and 90’s by ALL sides... Now the three of them are all VERY wealthy!!!!! Ha!
Awesome, only saw 1st clip "I am your Pusher". When cd's came out i worked in Coffeshop (NL of course, from '82 till...) and played 24/7 till it got banned by popu demand (Overkill does exist - apparently)
It's been probably 10 years since l had a hearty stroll through this album....I'm 47 now...bought it when l was 18. so dope. Ice, man, kids dont know. toy punks NEVER knew. Real men knew.
The ice got Macho
Doesn't matter whether you like/dislike the lyrics....... you just cannot deny the brilliance of the man.
Only he could create a song called cop killer and then play a cop on TV for mad years. Gangsta as fuck till this day. Brillance indeed.
Hell yeah, it matters. This shit is about straight dark bars!
Ice cold
for real
👍👍👍👍
and better than 99% of today's rap!!!
THAT'S FOR SURE. THE LYRICAL CONTENT JUST EXPLODES AND STRAIGHT AWAY YOU PICTURE WHAT HE'S SAYING.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM FUCKIN BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
His rap still blowing mumble rappers off
Rap today is such a joke. Music in general is now. These kids today have no idea what they missed out on back in the day.
You can say that again today's rap isn't that good compared to rap from the 1990's I am a white guy and I love rap from back in the day when I was in my 20's I am 54 now and I still listen to this stuff

OG original gangster..
Still gives me goosebumps 29 years later. Mad, mad album from the best in hardcore rap
1 of the BEST Gangsta Tunes Ever from 1 of the BEST Gangsta Albums ever OG. ICE T doesn't get enough props 4 being 1 of if not the originator of Gangsta rap.
He gets my props man this fucken guy was around 80s crips never claimed to be one of them and still had thier rspect
Facts
Ice-T is one of gangsta rap's founding fathers.
@@christianarrizon9796 I laughed when he told a story of his encounter with Tookie.
This song goes just as hard in 2024 as it did in 1991!! Ice T OG was my first hip hop tape.. I was hooked. (My parents confiscated the tape) 😆
I remember this since '91-'92. I've always envisioned him on a psychiatrist's couch spouting this off during his session and the doctor taking notes.
+TheDon101277 Sad that but true..............ICE was so nice with his wordplay. First westcoast rapper that can take out a lot of eastcoast cats
OG blows away the chronic
LOL But he was more East Coast though. I mean whether you like it or not, his gangsta NJ upbringing influenced his music. He talked about NY rappers a lot! His production crew was East Coast.

This is the truth ice was the original gangsta
Growing up as a metalhead, I always had love for Ice T. This shit hits HARD!
Midnight blew our minds.
We used to roll around in jacked up novas with air shocks smoking weed and wearing flannel and listening to led zep usually.
I used to fucking love this track. Great production. Snappy drums. wicked horn break inbetween the verses. Ice-T giving it both barrels. Superb.
2024 still the hardest lyric in a track
Ice t is a master at work,I miss the old skool artists

I love OG! He's hit rap gold on this record. Has any rapper made a better album? Well. This is top ten of all time, in my view.
Home Invasion was a great record also. T has hit rap gold more than once. Iceberg was tight also.
+DeLaFey1777 Not heard Invasion in years but I didn't like it much at the time so I'll probably not bother listening again even if that does sound lazy. Iceberg was good, at the time and so was POWER but I think OG was his most complete album with no turkeys.

He is not underrated. He is considered as one of the best in rap history. Real headz know, while others watch fucking MTV.
