I know this is an old video. But I need help!! I bought a brand new Eastman 503CE about 6 years ago. Don’t play this guitar much. But after having it in its case for for over a year, it as never played right since. I get fret buzz on the D string unless I raise the bridge high enough for it to be a long distance call between the strings and the fretboard. I have checked the fret height, and neck relief. I cannot find the issue. I am running the 28, 38, and 48 on the D A and E. What am I missing? Also, for what it’s worth, the volume knob also cracked while sitting in its. The guitar is stored inside my house along with the rest of my guitars.

Esthetically, I think I'd go for a black P-90 style pickup, (metal case, not plastic) and Delta Series 510 tuners that are gold, but have black tuning knobs. The two-tone is a killer look. Ratio 1-24. Now, can the Eastman's handle Thomastik Jazz Bebops?

You have my interest. May be my next guitar. Sounds nice!

You are a great player! Nice tone. Silly question, but what kind of pick do you use? I've got a Herb Ellis video lesson where he talks about using a small hard pick. I've been trying out Dunlop jazz 3's...the standard black ones without the "grip" bumps. I'm getting used to it though it does seem a tad small. When I go back to a larger standard pick I feel clumsy, so the small picks must make sense to navigate easier. Generally I've been using 12 or 13's (Thomastik flatwounds) on a 25.5 inch scale Aria non cutaway archtop. I ready for the next step. These Eastmans look like the answer.

Great playing as always!!! I have the same guitar and amp. What settings are you using on the amp?

The AR503CE is definitely a beginner grade instrument. Mine was made in 2015, after all the QC issues were supposedly solved. Well...the archtop is sunken in on the lower bout. The pickup ring is actually cut higher on one side to compensate, so this is from the factory. This defect was cleverly hidden by the pickguard, and was noticed when I changed out the HPAG for a Benedetto. The tuners are junk, the nut looks as and feels like plastic. The volume control doesn't do anything until it's on 8. The "ebony" fretboard is some kind of dyed wood, as it turned my fingers a bit black for the first few days I played on it. The fit and finish on my instrument is actually ok, the binding is good and the wood has a nice appearance. I guess for 1159.00 I expected a little more, like halfway decent tuners and electrics. I took a chance.

Why don't you take them to court for lying about their spec on their website?

Sounds great, but you'd make anything sound that way. I am an Eastman fan, though.

Mr. Severson, I just bought an eastman are 610ce. It buzzes when my hands aren't in the strings or other metallic parts. I took it to a good Luthier shop and had it set up and they said everything checks out as grounded. Do you ever have this issue with any of the eastmans you've played?

No, does it buzz in other environments? It could be the lights in the room I've had other guitars that buzzed because of the single coil pickup which would interact with certain lights
