    I listen to Aretha Franklin's eulogy for a second time. I got the message. It was all about the Black Community loosing it's soul. We have no R.E.S.P.E.C.T for one another. Until we respect one another Black Lives won't matter. BEAUTIFUL EULOGY. He said it right where it was needed. A large Black audience, that otherwise won't listen.

      Thank you for Roland for bringing this topic up. I didn't want to comment earlier because I thought that I was the only one. when I was watching the broadcast of the funeral for retha Frankland and the pastor that came up to eulogize Aretha was totally off-kilter what a shame he brought up on that family when the iconic William Barber was there and he could have done the best eulogy in my opinion around my heart goes out to the family. But they should know that she's in a better place and God has already eulogized her God bless!

      Well, thank you for taking my comment in stride! It's nice to see that a woman like yourself can have a sense of humor! Now to answer your question, I'm a 46 year old black man who realizes more than ever before the horrible state of our people. So much of how we have been raised and taught to live and aspire to is rooted in so many lies. Lies that now even go deeper than racism or white folks. Men like the pastor have lived wonderful lives because they chose to follow their own convictions more than just following the ways of white America. Most of us(you and I) included have subscribed to everything more than our own convictions to live a life ROOTED in our love, unity and respect for each other first. I believe this was the fundamental message the pastor was evoking within the contents of that eulogy. I recognize and respect the efforts he made in what he said, by realizing we no longer have the luxury of time or place. We, need to stop acting like our history in this country has been better than what we have seen. So, personally I'm not involved with any organization but understanding of where we are as a people is our first goal...second to not adding any additional negativity to our image, with more bad choices in our personal lives. I could go on and on... But acknowledgement is the key that opens the door to the black man and black woman living the life God wants us to live.

    • @mammogram9
      @mammogram9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Do you know the definition of Eulogy? Look it up! What he spoke on had nothing to do with Aretha being a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt or friend. It had nothing to do with her outreach when it came to the civil rights movement. He in no way comfort the family in their mourning of her and what she went thru before her transition. Who is he to talk about her father's indiscretion? Yes, Aretha was a young mother, married a pimp, married a man who use to beat her. But what was the purpose of speaking in disrespect of her memory and her family? There's a time and place to speak about the black community but not at a funeral. Plus, how can you speak against something when you don't have an agenda for the black community? Jasper Williams needs to go and sit down and perform the miracles that Jesus said that we are supposed to perform.

    • @mammogram9
      @mammogram9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      One more thing! Why keep repeating the same thing over and over and over again when we are not oblivious to the problems in the community. What in the hell has Jasper Williams done to improve the community? NOTHING!!

    • @mammogram9
      @mammogram9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It amazes me how people use scripture and don't apply it to their own lives. How have you lived Isaiah 30: 9-10 "obstinate child"? How have you been deceitful? Have you gone to the seers to predict something good when you have rebelled against your God? Take a seat and be quiet. I did not say that he disrespected the black community he disrespected her family. Black people including 'you' always want somebody to speak truth to your community when "you" are not doing a damn thing to change it! You see people getting gunned down in the community; you say nothing. You see single mother's struggling to raise a family; you turn your heads and talk about them like a dog. White people look at you and and shake their heads and say 'they always telling us that Black lives matter when they don't give a damn about their own'. Stop repeating the same narrative over again and do like Nike and "Just Do It"!

    • @mammogram9
      @mammogram9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're not a christian but yet you used a scripture out of context. Not too smart. Are you white or asian? I think you have forgotten that a lot of white and asian women are single mothers having babies out of wedlock. If you want to shame anybody look at the ones in your own community.

      Shoni M ~ I disagree. In my humble opinion his sermon was EXCELLENT! ReRe preached her own funeral. Preachers (well maybe I should say PASTORS) should always take that moment to talk about out ETERNAL souls .... Sorely MISSING in your 'black' congregations - but bless god they holler'n, shouting, DANCING & PASS'n out! NONE of that can merit you eternal life! I'm gonna stop for now. But we need more sermons like that and less 'pumping the folks up' with gas - ijs

    • @Mz-Tae
      @Mz-Tae 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The problem is he preached a sermon! It;s a funeral, he;s supposed to eulogize. That means edify the dearly departed, speak well of them & their life. Not take advantage of a national platform and speak on political topics. This isn't rocket science. I'm not sure where folk are going wrong with this.

      Shoni M ~ the scriptures say something a little different- just my opinion. The WORD should ALWAYS take first place. But, that's the foundation that was laid (late) said in my life. Your had an AUDIENCE of SOULS that May NOT have heard the WORD before and may not again (for a season) ... Bringing them back to Genesis 2 to 'explain' God's ORIGINAL intent for family was right on time and I understand why some were upset. Truth can do that; it can also heal the sin-sick soul. Men & women were ordained to have different roles (especially in family life)... single parents due the best they can, agreed. From the beginning.... you can fill in the blanks

Not to mention his exaggerations and made up stats re: Black on Black crime. Then he doubles down and does not apologize!

    Here's the thing, He could've preached his message on any given Sunday or out on the streets to educate and further his service to the community. Ms Franklin's Eulogy was not a place to discuss her father's mistakes, what her parents level of parenting skills were, nor any other cringeworthy information he was trying to squeeze in. After the tributes before him, it was a moment where he had a loose tongue and a vendetta of judgement for whatever reason regarding C.L. Franklin. It wasn't the time or the place. I'm so sick of Pastor's "whooping"/"hooping" without a clear message. The topic should be been on her success as a single mom, despite her circumstances, she endured. It should've been uplifting and in the end a call to salvation or a challenge of living your best life. He made himself look bad!!

He spoke about Aretha for 5 minutes out of a 50 minute speech. Now the focus is on him which is exactly what he wanted. Rev. Williams words are not for the dead but the dieing Christ himself ask "What does the living have with the dead " Aretha knew before she died the type of preacher he is. The truth does not care who tells it. Boys raised without a father figure become different type men, Thank the Creator for my Dad and his Dad and his Dad, uncles like it or not our communities are failing for a lack of real men as fathers to help raise boys The Gospel is a double edged sword designed to cut both ways. That man spoke the agenda of the one he represents. This is the reason I rejected request I become a Bishop people what to be stroked an entertained not taught Bro Daniels. NO it wasn't. He had it nailed down to the truth. She wasn't just a singer and some songbird clown for white sensitivities and white tears, she was also a civil rights activist and that was ALL about what she had said time and time again. Black folks need to be ashamed of their own shameful behavior, clowning this Pastor like that. This is why we are in the mess we are in now with all of this "singing and dancing" BS in times of crises. Skinning and grinning all over the place saluting idiots like Donald Trump - out shopping at the mall when we need to be checking the deed to this nation, especially since our forefathers were the ones who built this country in the first place. If church aint' the right place to say it, where is? The politicians are acting like scairty-cats. Better tell the truth and put the devil to shame.

    Roland; We need to stop having 7 and 8 hour funerals for ANYBODY. I understand the R.E.S.P.E.C.T of my beautiful sister going home, but this kind of time allows for others", who may be ok in the audience, but should have no place on the world stage. Especially in this "UNFILTERED" time, we live in. I respect those who respect me, but the time for Rev Williams, was not at ARETHA FRANKLIN's funeral. He should have rehearsed in the basement at home first, then asked for his family's opinion second, then asked for the other preachers thoughts and prayers for what he about to say. I'm sure in hindsight, they would have told him not to go there.
    I love you Roland and all those who speak truth to power, but there still is a time, and place for this kind of messy talking.

    I usually don't make a comment, but couldn't keep silent on this one. First, with all respect to Aretha, and may she rest in peace. I'm retired military, I'm about to retire from law enforcement, I'm a black man who has raised children to be respectful citizens even though I personally don't have any biological children. I have deployed away from my family more times than I choose to count and I have been in danger in defense of what I believe is right and just. I have been ridiculed for both of my career choices, while watching my people point the finger at everybody else but ourselves when it comes to our failures as a community..I never thought I would see us get to the point where we see speaking the truth is a bad thing. It amazes me that all those who say that his message was inappropriate for the funeral, but don't see it the same when it comes to the flag. I also don't understand why nothing was said when others made the funeral a political thing. Was that not inappropriate also? I'm saddened and sicked by the way my people have become, stating they are offended while being offensive.. When did that become ok with us? Just had to get that off my chest. Now I'm done

    I was briefly taken aback only because people usually use that platform to lie about people which I've always found hard to swallow. So, it was refreshing to me to hear him speak his truth!!! It was a good word because, truth is always good...period. We know who Aretha was and what she stood for and we loved her so that's why the world was watching...perfect timing! Since, Aretha chose him, I believe that everything he said was in divine order. If not then, when! I understand that the family is now grieving and that anger is always a stage of this process but instead of the rest of us finding fault & criticizing, I think it's important to support the reverend and his "intention." If black lives really do matter, give Rev .Williams a call and join with him to see what you can do for our "black lives." Obviously, he has some ideas and has asked for support...so let's bring our ideas to the table with a collective consciousness so that we can move these mountains and start the healing process. He used this platform in a mighty way and it's a powerFULL thing, so let's do our part and not diminish his. The family will come to understand and be grateful one day that Aretha chose him, when WE chose him and stick together for a change because we need to. It's necessary for our survival. There was too much truth in what he said to talk about anything other than what we intend to be/do moving forward. Black people, black people can we RESPECT each other and stop killing each other...Yes, men need to raise these boys because it's only so much we, women, can do. We are in trouble can't you see. It is a desperate cry!!! Please let's stop wasting time criticizing this Man of God and let's get on board 911!!! It takes a village...peace&love

    Eulogies are to be for the deceased, and the deceased only. Mr. Williams Jr. used the opportunity to say what was on his mine; which was out of order. Al Sharpton was out of line too. It wasn't about trump. We all have had death in our families. You always got that person\person's, who wants to get up and make the funeral all about them, or their agenda; if you know what I mean. At some funerals, people will put your business in the streets. Family members will get up and start talking crazy about the deceased and the whole family. I told my family when I die, just get up and say," she lived, and she died." And let everybody go home. And pray that my soul was saved.

    I would not have disagreed totally with the message if he could back all of that up and then show a plan of action or solution but I do disagree with the place of the message. As Rev Barber explained meaning of eulogy is good word and this was definitely a person that he could speak highly of having done so much for civil rights and raised 4 boys as a single mother. It's always a very sensitive time so you always have to keep that in mind. .. .and why not focus or as the Bible says think on the good things. ....especially with the climate we are in now in the person highest position or office setting such a bad tone already for this country.

      When keeping it real goes wrong. It was the wrong time and place, period, and that type of behavior is becoming too common. Jasper knew that this was an internationally televised funeral and he used that platform for his own agenda. He could not find a better way to get his message out other than a funeral that had absolutely nothing to do with his message. Totally disrespectful to Aretha, her family past and present. God saw what he did and Jasper will have to deal with it.

      Indiegirl007 right time and the right place... They were discussing Aretha’s life and when you send someone home you should want to lift them up in the truth and not still cloaked in secrecy while folks are still whispering/gossiping about it. I don’t understand why folks give a eulogy and talk about the good only
      We should talk about the good and the bad so everyone’s knows the battles you won despite of the madness.

      Where is his house? Where is his church? How many protest have he done in the community where the church stands? How many classes have the church members taught the young boys in the community to become men. How much classes have the church members taught the young girls in the community to become women. How many times have the members of the church spend hours in the community helping clean up the community. If you really want to talk truth, Jesus had a better relationship with the communities than the people who were in authority over the communities.

    Bill and Hillary knew what they were in for. They been to all the black churches.
    Also no one recognizes that funeral was scheduled for 9 hours. It wasn’t offensive it was what Aretha wanted. About Farrakhan being there. My answer is…so what. Just like at any black funeral, you see the cousin hey let out of jail to go to his Mama’s funeral, you get all kinds.
    Finally, a nine hour funeral is all the levels of ridiculous. They did not schedule lunch nor bathroom breaks. Granted the black folks in he audience brought packed lunch because they knew what they were in for. However old people have old friends. I know at least half them jokers missed at least one dose of medicine. Or do like John McCain have more than one.

      I agree it should have been done in two or three services. Maybe a celebration in Atlanta with Isley, Chaka and the little girl with the bloomer-dress and Stevie and speakers Farrakhan & Clive and the other secular ppl that wanted to honor her. Then the church service could have involved others active in church service. ReRe life PREACHED her own funeral. Rev Jasper Williams, though, should have had short sermonettes at ALL SERVICES! We should be praying for the Franklin family, as difficult days are still ahead for them. We should also be praying that rev Williams eulogy will 'break through' Satan's atmosphere and be 'planted' or 'watered' so that the Holy Spirit will nuture growth in the ears that can hear.

    COLORISM AT IT'S FINEST!!!!!I don't know why Roland brings this self-hating black woman on here. She was on his News One show. She always seems to want to separate herself from the blacks on the show. I understand she’s a conservative, but she is toxic for the black community and doesn't need to be on the show anymore nor in any political office. She is a disgrace and she need to apologize to the black community that watches this show. COLORISM on Roland’s show has just reared its ugly head and it hurts. Roland, she owes your subscribers an apology. Also, I've never heard a DELTA talk like this and I have friends who are DELTAS who are light skin. Because of the bad history of colorism, they refrain from talking like this. This is just as bad as white supremacy.

    Regarding Minister Farrakhan, I am pissed off that some Black people still can't embrace our people regardless of affiliation/denomination. You speak of love and can extend that love to everyone else including the most disgusting one of all (Donald Trump) but we can't embrace or extend love and grace to a man who has shown nothing but love and respect towards Black people. It's a damn shame. I'm not Muslim, but I love Minister Farrakhan just as much as some revere Jesse Jackson, Sharpton and many who have been gatekeeper's for our success as a whole. Besides having a different doctrine from yours, what has Farrakhan done to you personally, or Malcolm X?? Remember, they didn't want you to love Malcolm either!!
    The lady's comment on colorism highlights yet again, that the enemy is winning, still...anywhere there are existing divisions, and lack of knowledge, the people perish and the house cannot stand. That includes the House of God!!
    Rest in Peace & Power Queen....cheers to a life well lived!!

    He did all of that from the get go! He acknowledged her life and used the platform to shed light on issues in our communities. That preacherman did an excellent job. The eulogies platforms are used for so many reasons when the life of the deceased has been highlighted. We seen people pledged to turn their lives around at parents funeral. Gang members dropped out of gangs when a eulogy hits home. He an old school preacher and knows his craft. Y'all and these so-called talk shows got to find a topic!. Not saying that there wasn’t any truth to what he said regarding black lives mattering to black lives...it just wasn’t the time or place for it. To now hear he was given the opportunity to speak about solutions at the press conference he held and didn’t rise to the occasion really underscores why he shouldn’t have used Aretha’s eulogy for matters in which he has no tangible answers for.

  • @prestonrooks9374
    @prestonrooks9374 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The euolgy that was presented by Rev Williams was definitely in poor taste. For him to have a press conference to stand behind his words was not the right move on his part. This hits home, for a so-called pastor who gave my mother's eulogy a few years ago started talking about things that had no business included when honoring my mother. When he saw the look on my face, he knew i was about get up and snatch his soul out his body.The objective of the person giving a eulogy is to honor the individual and provide soothing words to comfort the family during a difficult time. There is a time and place for everything and for that man to use his agenda in front of a national audience where everyone was watching was just simply wrong.
