  • 7805 is a voltage regulator integrated circuit. It is a member of 78xx series of fixed linear voltage regulator ICs. The voltage source in a circuit may have fluctuations and would not give the fixed voltage output. The voltage regulator IC maintains the output voltage at a constant value. The xx in 78xx indicates the fixed output voltage it is designed to provide. 7805 provides 5V regulated power supply. It can deliver 1A of current. however, in many cases, we need high current. 7805 will need to add an NPN transistor. D718 is an example. It can deliver up to 6A of current (with heat sink) . The circuit is simple and easy to assemble.

    Hi, I've been working on a circuit to power a Raspberry Pi 3 with a 9v battery lowering it to 5v via a 7805, I think your circuit could help me out, but I have two doubts, does it work with 9v instead of 12v?, and what's the current you're feeding the circuit with?

    Couple things. I used a TIP41C instead of the D718. I wired it up to your video. You have the diode pointing to the negative side. When I powered up the diode exploded. I rewired a new one in pointing to the positive side. At the end of it I'm getting 11 volts instead of 5V . I don't get it.

    • @manishmandal-78
      @manishmandal-78 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In reverse bias the ground will be like open to the ic hence it will not work.
      Did the diode exploded or burnt?
      I suspect your ic or 12 volt supply was bad.
      The transistor will not damage the diode normally. Only if it is faulty and there is a short between base and emitter and there is a short circuit in the output and the ic is without heatsink then there is a chance of the diode burning up.

    • @manishmandal-78

      It is a little late. Hope this will help someone else also.
      21 v x 0.5 amps = 10.5 watts.
      Now you cannot go above that 10.5 watts in anyway as that is the amount of energy you have in hand.
      So 10.5 / 14 v = 0.75 amps -- the max amp you get if you convert to 14 volts ( practically little lesser due to losses in conversion circuit)
      10.5 / 6 amps = 1.75 volts
      I believe you wanted to charge batteries, which is why the 14 volts.
      Let me put a calculation which may help someone.
      10.5 watts x 90% efficiency = 9.45 watts
      Converter circuits generally have efficiency a little above 90%
      9.45 watts x 5 hours of sunlight = 47 watts.
      47 watts / 12 volts = 3.9 Ah
      That is a 12 volt 4 Ah battery can be charged in 1 day with that panel on sunny days.
      At night that system can light one 5 watt led buld for about 9 hours. Two 5 watts bulb will work for about 4.5 hours.

    To take output of 3A how much current we should input with 12v.
    I have a 450mA 12v transformer and after the rectification it drops to 9v.
    What will be the output with my transformer?
    Kindly explain me.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @TheWeepingCorpse
      @TheWeepingCorpse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you would have to calc to power ratios and also take losses of the .7805 into account ....but 450ma is far too low. Lets calc the watts.
      output = 5v x 3a (3000ma) = 15Watts
      input = 12v x 0.45a (450ma) = 5.4Watts
      so assuming 100% efficient conversion
      12v x 1.25a (1250ma) = 15Watts

    This circuit is a hoax, no way that this will increase the LM7805 capacity. All he does is his biasing a powertran (what you btw could do on many other ways) to let through some current between it's E and C it will defo not even be neither 5V nor stabilized. Saying that you can use "any" NPN transistors is a lie as well. It will depend on the biasing on the transistor what the output voltage will be and even IF you would bias it to give out 5V that would not be a stabilized 5V voltage.

      which we required current 1A for fast Charing of the battery.
      The output of the piezoelectric is very low as near to 30 micro amppers. which is not enough for the fast charging. we use a transistor for high current gain but it's not work according to our requirements.we insert a 300mAh battery which require 30mA current for Charging but it's take too much time for Charging like (300mAh/30mA=10h) 10 hours. So that's why we required a fast charging circuit for piezoelectric transducer.

      Power In = Power out. And
      Power = Voltage x Current.
      If you increase voltage current will decrease, and if you decrease voltage current will increase.

    nice video but kindly can you inform how we can use this circuit as variable current and voltage power supply. i need 5 volt, 5 amp variable power supply for my LAB so what modification should we added to this circuit. thanks. if not both then at least its current should be variable.
