David, many thanks for this. It may seem like just another canal vlog to you, but for us people from the US, it's a great comfort to see the smarter, more disciplined people getting back to real life. You deserve this due to following the rules to survive. Perhaps one day we'll be smart enough to learn from others? You deserve a double GNT now. Cheers!

Completely out of the blue with no prior warning signs, I had a near fatal heart attack in March right before COVID hit. I was life flighted to a nearby hospital, flatlined 6 times with 20 defibs required to revive me. Spent 6 days in ICU and by the end of that time everything had locked down (my wife couldn't even visit me). Then was sent home with meds, O2, and a portable defib unit I had to wear 24/7. But, of course, all rehab and doctor's offices were closed indefinitely at this point, everything closed, things looking pretty hopeless and we were isolated at home. My wife of 47 years is British and we have spent a lot of time in England (particularly up in Penrith and down around Lutterworth area with family) over the years. Many great memories. I started searching around randomly on TH-cam because one of those great memories was a trip we once took on a narrow boat. I found your channel. You really never know when you publish something where it will go, or the effect it will have do you? Through all the above, lying in ICU with tubes stuck in me, and recovering at home locked down, crusing through the English countryside with you has helped get me through. Thank you. Cheers and God Bless. [Ohio/USA]

Wow. That's quite the traumatic tale. Six flatlines?!! Incredible. I hope you are feeling better now and recovering as far as is possible. I'm really delighted the videos have been of some help. My best wishes for you.

I don't know about anyone else but a lot of these videos are starting to sound lot of the old WW2 news reels, I'm not complaining, but when a major incident involves a couple of stroppy swans, it does bring a smile to your face.

The most British video I've ever seen. The summer down pours with a backdrop of lush greenery. Polite small talk with passers by. The history and the sunshine after rain. What a pleasure to watch, thank you.

Timing two passing boats of about 55 feet each in around 10 seconds gives each moving at 2.75 feet per second, an average of 2.8 mph, or a moderate walking pace.

I've even noticed here (in a decidedly urban setting in Ontario, Canada) that the flora and fauna have benefitted from human covid isolation. The grass and trees are more lush and small wildlife is venturing out where it isn't as commonly seen anymore. I'm of the opinion that nature needed and got/is getting a well deserved break from us.

Great Escape indeed, it's Tokyo Drift but with boats, one of the highlights was a family of swans terrorising the towpath for an unsuspecting walkers, and of course the obligatory cuppa at the end of a days Cruise. Freedom at long last he shouts. 😁☔

NY decided to open my favorite state park for camping, very near my home so for the last week, and until July 5th my family and I are camping. There are many small narrow tributaries of the St. Lawrence river I lazily travel with my canoe my own little canal system. I actually thought of you frequently and when I came back to civilization made sure to check for your updates. It's so often your videos provide that moment to just go somewhere else throughout day. Speaking of locks, the St. Lawrence river, Eisenhower locks are a part of the park were we camp and throughout day we watch international cargo ships , coastguard cutters and Navy ships come and go from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic. Quite a show.

Thank you - nice to see you out cruising again. The rain looked very heavy but it is all part of the experience so it’s good to see that...anybody who has been on a canal boat long enough is familiar with this. Better that it was on/off showers and not a continuously cold drizzle, I think.
The rain ended, the sun peeked through at the end, what a glorious sight through your window!

Good as always! It's been 5 years ago when I left the Britain! Still missing the Great British country side 😭

Really enjoyed your traveling video, and I fixed myself a cup of tea and a cheese sandwich! Thanks for sharing!

I was watching this at lunch time so a cup of tea and a cheese sandwich was called for. Filmed before the very hot weather clearly, although we have that to look forward to. Good to see you again

Dear CC, delighted to see you free to cruise again. Top of the line vlog, I especially loved the ending part, having that personal touch, inside the boat, really helps wind down towards the end of the video and tie it all up. It really is superb! I’ve watched the video a few too many times (furloughed) it is fab! Keep up the good work as always!

I watched your Slow TV post of this cruise. The operator of the power boat that you overtook has no idea he was passed by one of the most leisurely narrowboaters on the entire system. If that was the limit of his speed, he should junk it! Good to see you back out, David.
