The clutch plates on these Kawasakis get stuck together, sometimes if it's not used for only a couple of weeks. Take the primary cover off like you did, but you don't need to dissemble the plates and basket, just hold in the clutch lever at the bars and prise the plates apart gently with a flat blade screwdriver.

Michael, Thank you so much. I have had a non-existant Clutch since February when I bought a 1980 KZ440. I watched your video 4/28/17, and got my clutch working. Almost the same problem, Instead of being stripped, my plate that the adjuster screw goes into was off the threads. Clutch plates were also completely stuck together (minimum 5 years since ran, let alone ridden.) I sincerely appreciate your time in making this video, and helping me get grab in my clutch. Thank you.

Is that an airfilter you have on top of your engine? Could that be the reason for your carburator leaking?
I just removed the old airfilter box from my old KZ400 to install now airfilters. I don't know what to do with the hose going from the engine to the airfilter box. If I just close it my carb will leak.
