  • One day at the Charlotte Regional Farmer's Market, this lady named Irene told me about her black greek fig. I told her to bring me a cutting next weekend--but I doubt the fig was true to its name. That night, I went to Meck County GIS and was able to pull records of Irene's house and her pervious owners and guess what? They were Greek! The next weekend, Irene came to the farmer's market dragging this long fig branch. She said, "here's your cutting" That evening I stopped by her house and was blow away at the beauty of her tree! I set a few air layers. Weeks later---only 2 struck. Today, I have 2 large Black Greek fig trees!
The figs taste like Black Maderia without the rich aftertaste. This fig is a honey fig! Figs ripen in July but this year they're late due to a cold front in March. The figs are to die for good! If I was to loose every one of my fig trees except this one, I'd be happy!
