Whenever Indian actors show up, I feel the same. It feels like these actors represent our country in which many ways they do. This is why diverse representation is important so we dont just have 1 source but many source.

Auch englisch - Sptrechende Schauspieler sagen das oft. z.B. "Dylan O`brien" sagt das oft in Interviews. For those who can't speak german: English - speaking actors say "You Know" quiet often too. Actors like Dylan O`brien say this often in interviews.

In Germany everybody hates him because he only acted in dumb movies that reproduced dumb stereotypes of women and gender identities. It's a shame because he really is a good actor, he somehow just lost track.
Jimmy Fallon deserves all the awards in the world for being one of the only America talk show hosts to, first, invite international guests to his show and, second, speak to them kindly and respectfully.

I never heard of this guy until I lived in Germany and I loved everything with him in it. His appearances on the shows of Joko & Klaas, Wanted (both seasons), 100 Dinge, Vielmachglas, Der Nanny etc. Great actor, great guy, great sense of humor, sometimes a goofball as well. He deserves it👏🏻
Love how he not even tries to teach the pronunciation of "Schweighöfer" and straight goes with "Schweighofer", sometimes you just know it would be a losing game anyways 😂

It's so heartwarming to see that Matthias is finally getting the recognition he deserves. He's one of the most genuine and nicest guys you can come across. For any younger German he will not only be a great actor but actually also this really funny, silly and adorable dude who was on several talk shows and game shows not taking himself too seriously. When I was like 15, our hometown cinema won a raffle and the prize was that he and Till Schweiger would come to the movie premiere of their new movie at our cinema. So there was kind of a meet and greet and we had tickets. I was super shy as a teen so I was all palms are sweaty, knees weak, moms spaghetti. So imagine there was huge crowd of girls wanting autographs and their picture taken with him and he was passing on the way out already. I super quietly and hesitantly asked for a picture with him when he had already passed and he turned around on the spot and looked for me, came back and took a picture with me and his smile was so kind, so encouraging, I still remember it to this day. He really made a self-conscious and shy girl super happy and taught her that you don't have to be the loudest to get heard. Great guy and I am so happy for him that he's making his dream come true in America. :)

Ich mag ein paar Filme von Ihm (Friendship, What a man) würde mich aber nicht als ausgesprochener Fan bezeichnen. Ich persönlich finde die Filme wiederholen sich in ihrer Art und Message. Wie man hört, kann er aber auch ein sehr guter Charakter-Schauspieler sein.
Stimmt. Er hat schon früher (vor seiner Mainstream-Deutschfilm-Phase) Charakter-Rollen gespielt... in Baal (2004) und Schiller (2005) - also eigentlich kehrt er wieder ins Charakterfach zurück - Nice!
Oh die (älteren) Amis wissen eine Menge über die Mauer und East-Germany. Die Bedrohung durch den Kommunismus war das Thema der 80er in den USA. Als die Mauer gefallen ist war Jimmy 15, er sollte es also auch mitbekommen haben. Sein Englisch geht echt voll klar. LG

I think it’s great that the way he talks IRL is the same as in the movie and not a character. I don’t know why but it makes it that much more enjoyable.
Fun fact, about 10 years ago (when I was 15) my ballet teacher hung up a poster of Schweighöfer in the corner of the studio so we would have someone to focus on while doing pirouettes (posé piquées)...for the adult class she hung up George Clooney ;) :D So maybe the "German Justin Timberlake" comparison is not too bad after all
Not surprised that he made it to Hollywood. He has always been one of my favourite German actors. Love that Hollywood is getting more diverse in terms of nationalities.
I don't want to offend you, but he is definitely not one of germany's best actors. He always plays the same roles. For me he is like till schweiger, there are some feel good movies that are alright but the rest is just bad. They just look good, which is why they seem to do well in america. For me, the best German actors at the moment are Jonas Dassler, Albrecht Schuch and of course Franz Rogowski.

I don't even remember the last German movie I've seen 😂. Once in a while I watch Tatort but that's about it. You can't stream German movies on Netflix in Australia and I don't have a VPN.

He's somewhat old for breaking onto the international market unfortunately; he's in his 40s now, so the roles he will be getting will be very different from those of the 30s bracket. Let's see if he's cut out for the 40+ casting bracket. It's not unheard of (Lupita Nyong'o broke internationally at 35, Mads Mikkelsen at 41), but it's a bit more of a gamble than doing it in your 20s or early 30s.

That's my whole point. Good actors and actresses can play any role but Germans often get villain roles probably because of a stereotype. He also played a nazi in the movie 'resistance'.. a Gestapo guy called klaus barbie. The movie is great by the way and I think Matthias did a great job!
Watched the movie a few nights ago and it is by far one of the best movies I've seen in a while. A hundred times better than Army of the dead. And he steals the show in every scene he's in with his charm and comedic timing. Just brilliant.
Finally he gets the attention this great actor from Germany deserves after such a long journey he finally made it. The world will love him. You wont be disappointed and im glad we all can laugh and enjoy his acting together from now on.
It could be that he is a good actor but gut the German movies he just play himself, there is no change in his play and he make the only type of movie ever and ever again. He repuduces some stereotypes, the movies have some gags and in the end is a obvious messege

Well, first of all, he is charming and delightful... and 2ndly, Hollywood is pumping out so much horrible sh!t these days... so, he’s super refreshing... and just using the same old trick of being amazingly skilled to stand out with. It's so heartwarming to see that Matthias is finally getting the recognition he deserves. He's one of the most genuine and nicest guys you can come across. For any younger German he will not only be a great actor but actually also this really funny, silly and adorable dude who was on several talk shows and game shows not taking himself too seriously.

If you remember back where he started and where he's now...as a long time fan of him I'm so so proud
When I was like 15, our hometown cinema won a raffle and the prize was that he and Till Schweiger would come to the movie premiere of their new movie at our cinema. So there was kind of a meet and greet and we had tickets. I was super shy as a teen so I was all palms are sweaty, knees weak, moms spaghetti. So imagine there was huge crowd of girls wanting autographs and their picture taken with him and he was passing on the way out already. I super quietly and hesitantly asked for a picture with him when he had already passed and he turned around on the spot and looked for me, came back and took a picture with me and his smile was so kind, so encouraging, I still remember it to this day. He really made a self-conscious and shy girl super happy and taught her that you don't have to be the loudest to get heard. Great guy and I am so happy for him that he's making his dream come true in America. :)

Ich mag ein paar Filme von Ihm (Friendship, What a man) würde mich aber nicht als ausgesprochener Fan bezeichnen. Ich persönlich finde die Filme wiederholen sich in ihrer Art und Message. Wie man hört, kann er aber auch ein sehr guter Charakter-Schauspieler sein.
Stimmt. Er hat schon früher (vor seiner Mainstream-Deutschfilm-Phase) Charakter-Rollen gespielt... in Baal (2004) und Schiller (2005) - also eigentlich kehrt er wieder ins Charakterfach zurück - Nice!
Als Kind der 90er habe ich mich viel mehr mit den USA sozialisieren bzw. anfreunden können als mit der alten BRD. Geht vielleicht vielen so.
Oh die (älteren) Amis wissen eine Menge über die Mauer und East-Germany. Die Bedrohung durch den Kommunismus war das Thema der 80er in den USA. Als die Mauer gefallen ist war Jimmy 15, er sollte es also auch mitbekommen haben.

Fun fact, about 10 years ago (when I was 15) my ballet teacher hung up a poster of Schweighöfer in the corner of the studio so we would have someone to focus on while doing pirouettes (posé piquées)...for the adult class she hung up George Clooney ;) :D So maybe the "German Justin Timberlake" comparison is not too bad after all

I don't want to offend you, but he is definitely not one of germany's best actors. He always plays the same roles. For me he is like till schweiger, there are some feel good movies that are alright but the rest is just bad. They just look good, which is why they seem to do well in america. For me, the best German actors at the moment are Jonas Dassler, Albrecht Schuch and of course Franz Rogowski.

He's somewhat old for breaking onto the international market unfortunately; he's in his 40s now, so the roles he will be getting will be very different from those of the 30s bracket. Let's see if he's cut out for the 40+ casting bracket. It's not unheard of (Lupita Nyong'o broke internationally at 35, Mads Mikkelsen at 41), but it's a bit more of a gamble than doing it in your 20s or early 30s.

Watched the movie a few nights ago and it is by far one of the best movies I've seen in a while. A hundred times better than Army of the dead. And he steals the show in every scene he's in with his charm and comedic timing. Just brilliant.
