  • For many people feminism represents women's rights, sisterhood and equality for both genders. For others, it is an ideology that is against family and promotes misandry (dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against men (i.e. the male sex).
In this video I would like to do a brief overview on the origins of feminism, the impact of feminism on society and what feminism looks like today.
Let’s start with a brief definition, according to britannica.com
    Feminism is -
feminism, the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. Although largely originating in the West, feminism is manifested worldwide and is represented by various institutions committed to activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests.

The idea of the “waves” of feminism emerged in the late 1960’s. A journalist by the name of Martha Weinman Lear wrote an article in the New Your Times titled, “The Second Feminist Wave” published on March 10, 1968. She wanted anti-feminists to clearly understand the activities of the feminists in the 1960s women's movement and distinguish them from the earlier movement for women’s rights.
It is important to note that although the waves may be generally used to represent the different generations of feminism, within each era there are women who may identify as feminists but have conflicting ideas. There were also significant women in history who were noted for advocating for women's rights who preceded the first wave.
A Vox article in 2018 featured a quote from a gender studies scholar, April Sizemore who said “I don’t think we are in a wave right now,” “I think that now feminism is inherently intersectional feminism - we are in a place of multiple feminisms.”
The waves are a key aspect in understanding how feminism has evolved in the US.
So lets look at those waves in order

Nothing promotes misandry more than direct, personal relationships with men.
