    Very nice. The way I usually do this is a little bit simpler:
    1 (optional): place the guides (you don’t need them, but it helps with snapping)
    2. shapetool: draw rectangle using height of the right side and drag until the left edge.
    3. ‘Convert shape into a Smart Object’ by right clicking the shape in the layer panel.
    Optional step 3B. Double-click smart object, inside the smart object resize the document if it’s too low res, advised if you also want to export its contents. Go back to the original document and transform the now scaled object so that it’s the original size again.
    4. Transform the smart object to match perspective
    5. Double click smart object thumbnail in the layer panel to change the contents and proceed with the tutorial as in the video.
    You can copy the layer (alt+drag) to make a linked copy for the reflection. Using these steps you don’t have to do the marquee and crop the new psd document.

    Great tutorial!
    A suggestion that could simplify this process: Why didn't you use the perspective crop tool on a copy of the image in a seperate psd? That seems like a simple way to reduce the number of steps needed to achieve this result. As it allows you to skip the entire selection and transformation, then copy to new file and cropping the new file segment.

    • @Layput
      @Layput 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As a beginner, this process is very helpful. It shows a lot of other functions that you would need later. If he did do the shortcut, then many of those of functions could have also been skipped.
      If you are good enough at photoshop, then you can do a number of shortcuts.
      Afterall, this video is not teaching those who already know but those who still don't know much about photoshop.
      This is probably not the place for an expert like you.

    I can remember a video of a few years ago, where you selected the area you wanted the text to be in. it opened a new window, you put your text in there, clicked OK and it automatically filled the area with the text on the right angle. That was way more simple than this. Can you show us that way?

      That's the best thing about Photoshop, you can do the same thing in many different ways.

    • @CreativeForcePro
      @CreativeForcePro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1-Create a rectangle
      2-Convert it into a "Smart object" layer
      3-Align it perspective accordingly
      4-Double click to edit the content of that smart object, put your design, save
      5-Done

    • @Layput
      @Layput 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well he knows a lot more too. He is just maximizing the steps to involve a lot of other methods to help beginners. We are not here to make the shortcuts. We are here to learn methods. If he wanted to do a shortcut, he could do it better than you.
      Don't show up your skills here like he doesn't know photoshop. He does. He's an expert.

  • @LunatiqueRob
    @LunatiqueRob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What exactly is the advantage of copying the layer to a new document and then link back to the original document, instead of just doing all the editing in the same document?

    • @Trancilian
      @Trancilian 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When working with perspective like this it’s easier for future changes to work with a smart object, so you can edit its contents without having the perspective edits applied. You also wouldn’t be able to link the reflection to the sign without using a smart object.

  • @michaelayap1782
    @michaelayap1782 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Isn't vanishing point easier?

  • @jimbobaroobud
    @jimbobaroobud 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This has a lot of good information in it, but it is pretty easy to see that the original red sign was a rectangle and not a square. If you were going to have PERFECT perspective replacement, then your new layer needs to be shaped like a rectangle and not a square.

    • @Layput
      @Layput 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A square is a rectangle with 4 equal sides.

    • @jimbobaroobud
      @jimbobaroobud 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Layput And a rectangle that is not a square has two pairs of equivalent sides. When you change a rectangle whose height is different than its width into a square, the content within the area of the face will become distorted. It needs to remain a rectangle for the material on the face to be in correct perspective.

    • @Trancilian
      @Trancilian 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimbobaroobud yeah, if you know the original size of the sign you could resize the smart object’s document to those exact values and then transform the smart object to fit the perspective. However, sometimes perfection isn’t necessary.

    I don't think your de-perspectivising is right. There is foreshortening of the length of the sign that you don't seem to have accounted for. Signed Chris the Pedant.

    • @stephlrideout
      @stephlrideout 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about finding the true proportions of the sign, it's about finding a square edged shape you can use to set flat images into place. But of course you know that.
