That’s the way smart people just getting into it should do. Those buying cases upon cases of champions path etbs could have that whole investment burn up if they keep printing them. If they can sit on it for years they will most likely be fine because of the double chase charizards but if they can’t they might have to liquidate them and loose hundreds if not thousands. Best bet for anyone getting in on this is to not put all their eggs in one basket and get stuff from different sets, and hell not necessarily even all cards or booster boxes. Yeah, that’s what I’ve decided. I’m just going to pick up 1-2 sealed boxes whenever a new set releases, and hang on to them. If it keeps going up, then, great. If not, fine, I open the packs and expand my collection (I have loved Pokémon since Red and Blue and have a large collection of cards that I just collect because I like them). Not going to go beyond my means and drop thousands on cases or anything like that. @lass kinn So I decided to dig a little bit to get more info, there's a new special Shiny Pokemon oriented set in Japan, it's not a main set but it is a big set not the norm in Japan. There's good cards on it but you know that new Charizard Vmax on Champion's Path? The one I'm talking about it's the Shiny Charizard Vmax so there you go....for what I can tell it's just a variant and kt could be included on the anniversary set or the fall set all depends on sales of current stuff. Free tendies again next year for the anniversary set.
Why so many TH-camrs care about the market and the benefits of players or flippers, do you think those flippers are gonna broke?? The market is going up and hype or going down. Who cares? The love of those pokemon memories that stayed in childhood or even for new generation people is priceless. The pokemon game company Nintendo will not break no matter how the market goes. And by the way, that big Pikachu is called vmax Pikachu. It is from the new remake series of the Pokemon anime TV series. Please respect a little bit. Real collector thoughts.
Rudy needs to organize and communicate his points better - He presents two main, but separate concerns - 1) People are over leveraging in a super hot (potentially peaking market) - This is a legit concern and wise warning - 2) People care about Pokemon and are not diversifying into other games like Magic - This is not a legit concern and only shows that Rudy doesn't understand how Pokemon has such a wider and more vast appeal and will always be more popular than Magic. Further, Pokemon Co. runs its business 1000% better than WotC. After selling my MtG collection and moving to Pokemon 2 years ago I haven't had any reason to look back.

I think the most unique thing about Pokémon is that the community is extremely healthy and genuinely passionate about the artwork and collecting. So it feels as though this type of valuable pricing will continue so long as they are being led by people who actually care about the product. I think the only true danger is if people who are greedy try to come in and inflate prices. They will make some high sales but eventually it will balance back down to something reasonable and still valuable.
Standard Pokemon doesn't usually sell for too much in the first place. The competitive scene for Pokemon isn't as loud or flashy as any other TCGs, singles are relativley cheap unless they're the super duper rainbow secret gxexlvlx versions. This bubble is going to POP.

Some people have to learn the difference between a hobby and something to make money off of seriously. I really like Philosophy and was thinking of going into grad school, but after reading about the job market for Tenured Philosophy professors it rightfully scared me away. Some advice I got was only go for it if NOTHING ELSE can make you happy. And I'm glad I followed that advice after seeing how some people are struggling with a PH.D and had no plan b. Can see the parallel with this situation. This is even more important with investing cause getting out of massive debt fucking sucks enough on its own let alone explaining to everyone that you are financially screwed because you went all in on cardboard. If you want to buy a couple boxes for a fun investment go ahead and have fun. Turning your hobby into your job can ruin both for you if you aren't careful.
And regressing to things that made them happy in the past because of general uncertainty about the future. Agree though that now is a big time for home business
They can apply all day long, doesn’t mean they’ll get any. They might get a handful of elite trainer boxes and maybe some booster boxes. The TGT’s and WMT’s of the world are going to get 98% of the product, no matter how you slice it. Applying doesn’t guarantee anyone that they get as much as they want. Watch videos by Card N All Gaming, he only gets some....SOME product. And he puts it on the shelf and online, it sells out over the weekend, then he doesn’t have anything until the middle of December. I get you’re point, but my point is, applying to buy Pokémon cards wholesale, does not guarantee the right to purchase as much as you want.
It's absolutely hilarious when compared to the absolute TRASH that is Pokemon Standard format right now. Even most deluded players will admit this is probably the worst in history of this game. The pandemic is inadvertently helping PTCG, by keeping people at home and stopping them from playing the game. It's literally just a Trading Card product right now, no game. Japan has just released another "shiny" set and announced another.
I definitely understand. So many of these "collectors" are arguing to death that "collectability" is in more demand compared to "playability". In truth, there are far more players than collectors.

One thing I never thought of that you mentioned is Pokemon will print endlessly to capture the revenue which means products like Vivid Voltage will be over printed.
Doubtful, TPCi hasn't reprinted a set beyond trash for a while now. And when they do re-prints they are small now. In fact, the Champions Path Reprint will be really small. Voltage will get a small reprint as well. TPCi has been balancing things out since Evolutions. Either they under print or just barely overprint... Or it seems that way if the product doesn't sell.
Shining Fates and the Pokemon 25th anniversary will sustain momentum through 2021 however will slow down come 2022 unless Gen 9 comes out for Switch and is the Breath of the Wild of Pokemon games and if that's the case don't expect serious slowdown until 2023....
I'm telling y'all these people just want first crack at these boxes so they can be the first to express grade the new Zards and be the one to get the premium to selling the first one to some fool with more money than patience.
Modern product investments, run for your dear life.... vintage product investment, ride the wave and enjoy the hobby!!! I don’t see a huge crash coming for vintage. These products have been steady in demand WELL before 2020 hype started for your average joe...the genuine collector demand has always been there and will continue to grow generically.
Ever since the “boom” started, viewers on TH-cam have seen 10’s of millions packs opened.. there will eventually be a burn out 🔥 everyone is just doing what the popular folks are doing. Plus some of these modern packs are getting super expensive from all this craziness.. going to push people away. I loved Pokémon as a kid, as millions of others.. and I got burned out like everyone else. I tell my viewers not to spend $150 on Vivid Voltage.. it’s not worth it. Pandemic is going to end and change a lot of things that people don’t realize.
Once the economy opens back up 100% people are going to have many more avenues to take when it comes to spending their time and money. I hope the hobby stays strong, but there is bound to be a drop off and these folks are going to be losing $$$$$
@@basedblueboy8770 yeah folks just have an unrealistic expectation with these modern cards. YEAH, RUDYYY! ROCK THE BOAT Edit: I certainly agree with what you're saying. I notice a lot of people who do not have experience in the market heavily committing to modern. I watched adidas do this with Yeezy; I cannot imagine why Pokemon wouldn't capitalize on this and just flood the shit out of the market. That's why you see CP already reprinting ETBs for like a fourth wave, when in the past ETBs weren't getting reprinted like that (at least to my knowledge). I would actually prefer that they do that to be honest because I buy modern for the genuine enjoyment of cracking packs and I am not trying to pay some greasy dude who would've bullied me for liking Pokemon 5 years ago triple the price for a goddamn Dubwool box. Vivid Voltage and Darkness Ablaze will reprint and reprint again. Hell, Unbroken Bonds and HF are getting reprints; CE, UM??? I don't think some of the newer people who are "investing" in Pokemon understand the situation we are in, and what this hobby normally looks like. "Investing" is typically long-term, VERY (bold, underlined, italicized) long-term. Vintage packs were selling for what, like $90 a year ago (obviously this differs based on the set, but this is my average lol)? I think some people read investing and think "spend money, flip, make money" not "sit on this booster case for 15 years." That's just my take though, I could be terribly wrong! I am not trying to argue with anyone, so if I offended anyone, my bad, pls be nice in your reply and we can talk about it, ok thanks :)
Great video. Havent commented in forever. Pokemon has been my thing for many years. I used to comment about your random WOTC boxes in the background back before you ever mentioned Pokemon in your videos. I've seen the ups and downs but you're right, this is extreme. I think a lot of factors are at play obviously. Maybe COVID and its influence of the job market has made some people look for other sources of income and helped add to the Pokemon craze? I don't know. But you're right. It's scary that some people don't realize the risk they are taking. Pokemon is going to over print all of these new sets. When PSA can catch up, and all of these graded cards hit the market, prices will drop. It's not going to be fun for those holding the credit card statements every month. I wish everyone the best. I'll continue to buy Pokemon as I always have, but it will be sealed WOTC and earlier XY product. Collect what you love. Enjoy it. If you can make some money on the side, then awesome. But dont risk it all. Great video.
I'm also on the dumb wagon. Remember having opportunities in 2010 and 2012 to buy numerous wotc sealed boxes, most between $120-200. What did I end up buying? whatever the latest BW set was and open it. I specifically remember debating between it and Gym Challenge. (my favorite set ever) To be fair, everyone during the 2000s up until maybe the mid 10s had chances to acquire boxes at those prices though. It's not like you had to have a ton of connections and needed to jump thru hoops to verify things. To make it worse since maybe it'll help someone else feel less bad, I sold my collection years back. Just 3 of the 800 some rare holos I had would now get me what I sold for. (I undersold locally, back to the dumb wagon I go haha) I'll just keep telling myself since I was relatively clueless and never thinking of the future I'd of opened whatever I bought anyway, then sold and the outcome would be the same no matter what.
It's those new beautiful Shiny VMAX cards getting people back into the game, they look amazing and are very powerful cards. I haven't played pokemon in a while but the TagTeam and V cards are bringing the game Back to Life, the cards look really cool and i think it's what the players wanted.
well its not the cards its the tediousness and hype by influencer which is really getting people to Pokemon. Normal VMAX shinys go for ~20$ which is not that much. For "nostalgic" reasons they choose charizard...
@@xStanyyx Like is said, The Cards are getting people back into the game, Because they are so strong, it makes the game more exciting, that fact that the Vmax is only $20 is even better for the players, it's more affordable unlike other card games. I collect Pokémon cards and I think people have been entirely too bullish about modern in this market. Even too bullish with certain vintage cards. Glad you brought up this issue with so many people wanting to flip modern booster boxes.
There are an ungodly amount of flippers in the market right now, I thought early this year was crazy, but now (as Rudy said) it’s exponential. I’m guessing it’ll get to the point there aren’t enough buyers for these flippers to sustain. When each set leads to more and more flippers.

What hurts the most, I am a die hard collector of Pokémon. Been collecting since 1998/ 1999. I have never been into the hobby for resale values and profit. I have been in it for myself, the fun, and the overall excitement of opening Pokémon cards. Then organizing those cards into sleeves, top loaders, binders, card boxes, etc. It's hard to purchase cards from my local card/ comic book store, big box stores, and small business', when the shelves of Pokémon products are empty. I was happily opening more XY Evolutions packs just months ago before this hype. I just have 3 more cards to complete the full set... I am irritated because I cannot finish my set now. No way am I paying scalper prices. The hobby and genuine love for Pokémon is ruined for me. I will however cherish my 3 complete sets of the 1999 base set, 1st Edition, Shadowless, and unlimited, along with many highly sought after cards.

If you can average $2.5/pack or less, you can pretty much make money if you grade your good pulls and resell the code cards and bulk. Also works if you buy new release stuff and sell them at a high enough price online to cover the original cost with some sealed or open product left over for profit. Edit: I certainly agree with what you're saying.
I almost bought a 1st edition Neo Destiny booster box in 2014 for $500......shit
Even in 2014 you were dumb for turning that down lol
I'm also on the dumb wagon. Remember having opportunities in 2010 and 2012 to buy numerous wotc sealed boxes, most between $120-200. What did I end up buying? whatever the latest BW set was and open it. I specifically remember debating between it and Gym Challenge. (my favorite set ever)
To be fair, everyone during the 2000s up until maybe the mid 10s had chances to acquire boxes at those prices though. It's not like you had to have a ton of connections and needed to jump thru hoops to verify things.
To make it worse since maybe it'll help someone else feel less bad, I sold my collection years back. Just 3 of the 800 some rare holos I had would now get me what I sold for. (I undersold locally, back to the dumb wagon I go haha)
I'll just keep telling myself since I was relatively clueless and never thinking of the future I'd of opened whatever I bought anyway, then sold and the outcome would be the same no matter what.

Pshhhhh Rudy is just tryna drive the price down so he can flip everything when it comes back up. Don’t think you can trick us Rudy ;)
They stores his sealed Pokemon boxes in his guest bathroom, next to the toilet.
Summary of this video: Don't be a Timmy
@@brokengames9020 at least most of the expensive stuffs in Pokemon are cosmetic blink and the regular versions are not too hard to come by
@@brokengames9020 So THIRSTY.
So?
Earned my sub. You’re spot on. You might find solemn Yugioh as well-pretty similar perspective on the topic of card prices.
No clue why people stock up on NEW product XD them and everyone else in the world. There’s a reason the old stuff is RARE-COLLECTING THEM WASN’T MAINSTREAM.
lol, let fools be fools.
The most we can do is hope they don’t get hurt too much by throwing all thier money here
The majority of people who don’t love it, might leave, but it’s def not a bubble
The point is, The Pokemon Company has full control of the supply side. Said supply could double overnight, making the existing supply half as valuable.
Gold is only valuable because it is scarce. Pokemon cards on the other hand...
Well, Rudy, one thing is certain: Smart money has long made its move, so I'm gonna chase after it with all the money I can manage to borrow ( oДo) 📈
I'm going to do the same

And where's that? Crypto markets?

This may be one of your best videos. I really appreciate you speaking some hard truths, and hopefully somebody in that position will see this video before doing something really stupid
Don’t get stuck with a soggy taco.
1000s of card stores 80s through late 90s,
then 9/11 hit, Twin Towers went down,
war, recession, etc. we lost our stores...
There were 200-300 card shops in San Diego, CA alone
back in the day during the peak, how many today,
one or two per state?
Two to three THOUSAND card shops
wiped out overnight when consumers
woke up to terror and stopped buying
non-essential collectibles, etc.
When does this recession hit?
One of a few entrepreneurs out of 100
might celebrate 10th anniversaries...
I think I know which TH-camr your talking about, i thought the same thing when I saw so much product pull to his/her driveway, yet the TH-camr still talks about having a regular job 9-5 job which makes you wonder how he’s buying so much product which I did the math was around 30-50k, yet still have a regular job. If your buying that much product you shouldn’t be having to work for someone else, unless your just getting into debt.
can you point me at the channel? I want to hear what they say/think.
I'm curious too
Danny has been in the game for a long time.
@@gregorybenoit8526 I’m not talking about Danny, I know who he is but I’m not talking about him.
I can't believe I'm this early. My first MTG set War of the Spark, I'm always late...
Don't worry, mine is Throne of Eldraine.
HI im Timmy. Should I sign up to sell retail so that I may order a huge pallet of pokemon cards for my 1 bedroom apartment?
I got $250 ready for when the Bubble Pops I want some newer product to rip 😂
Newer product yes but old promos and stuff that was low printed no. will probably stay way higher priced. Looking at you 204/xy-p pikachu I bought 1 for $20 seller had few more was broke said later but now it’s never gnna happen. Also not unlimited base that was heavily printed.
@@henlo.. omfg that card is sick I just looked it up. You are lucky to have that
I just put 100k in pokemon and it was all in credit cards, people call me crazy. Well i think it's crazy to finance a 40k car with no hopes in getting your money back at least I got a home of making money.... Who's crazier?
I have had disdain for a lot of aspects of the Pokemon community, VGC is my newest facepalm from the community. Everyone is acting like a special Timmy because their nostalgia is going to become the break they feel they deserve in life. We have seen it before, entitlement fueling the Bitcoin / Hertz bubble because ITS THEIR TIME. Millennials and investing gets ugly
I don't think Bitcoin fits well into your analogy...
@@RS-vz8xd It very much does. Massive short term run up into an over 50% crash then further falling. People got second mortgages or put their whole savings into it. It being up again years later doesn't mean there wasn't a bubble in 2018
@@Verlisify Overheated assets are different than pumping and dumping companies heading for bankruptcy (Hertz). I don't think entitlement is a connecting thread, just FOMO and short term outlook.
@@RS-vz8xd No. A common thread was entitlement. Bitcoin is tech, tech belongs to the millennials, this was the time for the beaten down generation to get what they deserve. That was the biggest argument I saw for investing bitcoin because only they understand and should be rewarded for the real value of blockchain
@@Verlisify I think there was, and is, a lot of interest in a method of exchange not tied to the monetary policies of individual countries... The assumption that tech belongs to millennials is pretty simplistic. I'm sure there were many middle-aged/boomer risk chasers who were also caught up in the bubble (look at the Bitconnect guy as one example :) )
your business advice is always solid
Moral of the story everyone’s running towards Pokémon I’ll buy magic lol
Happy I found your channel! You're a really smart dude...and your Pokemon bathroom is hilarious! Thanks for the knowledge dude!
MTG guy’s a Pokémon expert now 🤣
@@brokengames9020 So THIRSTY for attention...
crazy time for sealed product. content creators are just shredding through supply like you said. Should be an interesting couple of years afterwards and if the prices will ever ever drop even on the slightest.
Making bank, good for them
The garage guy with modest home = Danny Phanthump (all his stuff is already payed for through preorders)
Not sure about apartment parking lot guy =?

Thanks Rudy! As somebody who has just launched his store ( Doing it because of lack of work - Covid) certainly going to take your advice on board! Certainly, open my eyes on some areas!
This is the video i needed to hear last week, Thankfully I didn't go all in, but I did go over what i knew i should.
Love your analysis bro 🤓
Suckers are going for all the new junk when the real money is in collecting promos, out-of-print sealed product and reselling bulk in custom kits online after buying products and opening them on deep sale. If you can average $2.5/pack or less, you can pretty much make money if you grade your good pulls and resell the code cards and bulk. Also works if you buy new release stuff and sell them at a high enough price online to cover the original cost with some sealed or open product left over for profit. I personally have ads running all the time to pre-sell stuff I am on the hunt for. For every 2-3 units I find to flip, I can get one free. I have the time to stalk my local target, I go in with a budget in mind (pre-sales), a profit objective (break even or small profit after my take) and walk out all the better for it.
