hey guys, im on an elvis kick - this is a vibe, man he took an ordinary song and made it awesome. he was doing the same old tours to the same old towns and was bored, but he always gave 100% on stage. this was in 1972, thankfully they taped a bunch of his tour for a documentary - this is from that. cheers,

Elvis wasn’t a songwriter but his genius came through with how he arranged songs which mostly turned out to be better than the original.
Elvis voice in this performance is perfect. When Elvis belts it out and hits those high notes it’s a thing of beauty.

A wonderful song that was written by Hoyt Axton. This was a hit for Three Dog NIght in 1971 (Axton also wrote another of their big hits, "Joy to the World") and funnily enough Axton's mum co-wrote the Elvis hit "Heartbreak Hotel". It's all connected 😀

A cover of a Three Dog Night tune, Elvis's apocalyptic vocal plus his band makes his the superior version. During this period Elvis played New York's Madison Square Garden. The Garden was known to be difficult to fill all the seats. In 1972 the Rolling Stones couldn't sell it out. Elvis did for 4 shows. In the audience for one of those shows was David Bowie, George Harrison and Bob Dylan. The soundtrack went platinum. A reviewer who who attended Elvis's appearance dubbed him Prince from Another Planet.

Love Elvis’ version of this song but I believe it was a cover of a band called Three Dog Nights.
By far it wasn’t an ordinary song when three dog night came out with it but Elvis did make it better when got his hands on it.

On the ceiling overlooking the entrance lobby of the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel & Casino, in Tulsa, there appear the words: "Well I've Never Been To Heaven, But I've Been To Oklahoma" !!:):) Hoyt Axton the songwriter was a native of Oklahoma -- born and raised there, before ultimately moving to Los Angeles. As a longtime L.A. resident, his imaginary trip from L.A. to Las Vegas "only made it out to Needles (a word which rhymes with 'Beatles'" !!:):)
This song was originally done by Three Dog Night ...Elvis didn't change it much ...even left the guitar solo in for James ...but Elvis gave the song more passion and it kind of fit his style

I'm 99.9 percent positive that Elvis never wrote a song, that he recorded.
You're right, he wanted to do concerts, overseas---and people in Europe, for instance, were constantly begging him, to---but, that God-forsaken Colonel Parker was not a U.S. citizen, so he couldn't leave the country, cuz then he couldn't get back in, and he wouldn't let Elvis go, without him.

Elvis could have travelled anywhere he wanted to ..He could have toured other countries and they would have gone wild...Let's not forget who was really the boss . Colonel Parker was an employee of Elvis' , not the other way around ...For the life of me, I've never figured out WHY Elvis LET the Colonel have such control over him...Parker certainly helped Elvis a lot at the beginning of his career, but later on Elvis didn't need him. It was the Colonel that needed Elvis . When somebody, ANYBODY, starts to think that they own you, that's the time to get rid of them , and Elvis SHOULD HAVE done that with Tom Parker. Elvis stood up to the Colonel a few times , but not nearly enough. I think Elvis should have got rid of the Colonel shorty after he got out of the army, but I guess Elvis was the kind of person who didn't like to rock the boat. ..So, as much of a fan of Elvis that I am , I blame him for not taking control of his own career... He let his manager control him too damn much.

Elvis never wrote any songs ever in his career. This was a 3 dog night song and Elvis covered many many many of other people songs. A lot of people who react to Elvis music think that Elvis personally went through any stories that the lyrics had to say per se 0 however, there are some songs that do attach to Elvis's personal life such as songs like, separate ways That was written by his personal friend and bodyguard red West and listen to the lyrics to that one and you'll understand it had a lot to do with Elvis going through a rough time with Priscilla and them ending up divorcing
saw Waylon Jennings in concert who did this also. Needless to say, as good as Jennings is, he didn't even come remotely close to Elvis version. In retrospect, not really surprising.

Elvis does good job on this song but I like three dog night's better this song was written by Hoyt Axton a old country singer and songwriter you should check out his song The Pusher by Steppenwolf.
