if the Lord of the Rings trilogy didn’t exist, this would be my favorite trilogy ever. such beautiful writing and things that have changed my perspective on life, love, and just human connection. absolutely amazing.
All jokes aside, amazing episode ! Watched these all last month for the first time and they blew me away, amazing films and an amazing episode from you guys as per usual 😊👏🏻 Blane
This is a great break down of these. These are some of the best relationship movies ever made. Sunset is my favorite and the ending is incredible. You guys hit it on the head with your analysis especially about their changing of cynical views throughout the films. These movies show you how most relationships goes, they a lot of time fizzle out. The divorce rate shows it. Honestly I think they weren't gonna end up making it work in the end. Idk that's what great about the endings so much , so much ambiguity. I just felt that Celines love is lost and a lot of women when they fall out of love it's hard to pull em back in. One of the best episodes
I am loving your podcast so much. The care you out into the words you choose, that you can swing from excellent horror talks to cerebral deep dives like this is so refreshing. So happy I've stumbled upon you. Sharing // subscribing ;-)
My favourite movies ever. Richard Linklater is fantastic at creating a feeling of nostalgia and melancholy for something you didn’t even live. The actor choices are just fantastic. Overall the feeling you get is that you easedrop on someone’s date.
I can imagine a fourth film being that they had separated after ultimately moving to America and they end up in a scenario where they are stuck together for a day for whatever reason. Maybe they experience some of that magic from when they first met but in the end they realise that although they still love each other, their story has come to a natural conclusion and one which it was always fated to reach. Would for sure be a slightly upsetting way for the story to end but based off Before Midnight it's the only next step which really makes sense to me.
Since we are already past 2022, I think maybe they could get together in 2031 for the wedding of one of their daughters. It would be a noon wedding, of course, so all of the dialogue would happen during the morning hours, and the title would be …
I love these films so much! I was actually considering them reviewing them soon myself. Great job as always you two. You bad motherfuckers! I'd love to hear you guys talk about Trainspotting. I just saw it for the first time in I think about 8 yrs and it floored me the same way it did the first time I saw it! Anyway keep up the great content!
Everything Linklater is always dialogued to precision… but, the actors’ improvisation has always been in the delivery of making it natural. It’s rehearsed to excess to give them the opportunity to discuss their motivations & fully flesh out and understand their characters… How else do you explain Matthew McConaughey’s “Alright, Alright, Alright…” in Dazed & Confused? Although he says that he improved that, so… doesn’t disprove my point if you think about it, though.
Marriage and children definitely have very different impact on men and women, physically and mentally! In the first movie them two both were single, the second movie Jesse was married but Celine was still single. And of course the third movie they got married and raising children
Don’t agree that their courtship post the second movie is short. You mentioned that it could be one week or so until she got pregnant. That is not correct. They were together for 2 years in NY (to be close to his son) before she got pregnant and had to go back to Paris to give birth
A fourth movie could have been made. A story line could have made the last and final movie great. Enough fans would welcomed it. Too bad the fans were let down.
I have faith that we'll get a fourth. Yes the nine years have passed, but they've said multiple times that they'd be open to it should they feel a story to tell beginning to arise. I could see a film set during their elderly years being incredibly profound.
These films really changed my perspective on love and relationships. Wish I'd seen them 10 years ago. Brilliant, brilliant writing
Hands down my favorite film trilogy. They are just magical

I watch before sunrise (at least) once a year. no exaggeration.
I love this trilogy. I feel the same as you as regards to how real they portray love, life, and reality.

Yeah these movies are great … but they’re no THE RAID 2!!
Yeah THE RAID 2 pulled off fated romance so much better
