    When Kolbe is not sporting the Green and Gold of the Springboks, he's playing club rugby and is therefore, wearing the colours of the club he is playing for in that moment.

    When you score a try in rugby, 2 things happen:
    (1) you are awarded 5 points and,
    (2) you are allowed to convert the try for an extra 2 points by kicking the ball between the posts and above the crossbar. However, you have to place the ball directly in line with where the try was scored, so it makes sense to touch the ball down as close to the posts as possible, thereby making the conversion easier.

    So what happens with rugby is, you play for you professional club, but you will play for your national team as well. You can play for different pro clubs but you can only represent your home nation.

    So, the Springboks are the South African national Team. They compete in several international competions against other national teams, including the rugby World Cup, and ate the only team to have won it 4 times. Kolbe also plays club rugby. He started his career playing for the Stormers, a Cape Town based rugby club. He currently plays in Japan for the Tokyo Sungoliath and has also done a stint with Toulouse and Toulon, both French rugby clubs.

    He's probably one of the best paid players in the world. Rugby players will generally sign for a few seasons but they could play some games in another hemisphere in the off season. Colbe played in France for a few years and is currently playing in Japan. Started his carreer in South Africa and still represents the national side.

    Your "End zone" victory lap - Where the ball is placed is where the no. 10 will be kicking for the conversion in field, and add an extra 2 points on top of your 5 points for the try. So if he scores in the corner it will be a very difficult angle as apposed to scoring directly behind the poles where the no. 10 will just place the ball directly in front of the poles.

    Rugby teams consist of 23 players, 15 on the field and the rest on the bench as subs
    The numbering system is based on position the no 1-8 are forwards, 9-15 Backline
    1. Tighthead prop (left front of scrum)
    2. Hooker (middle front of scrum an lineout throw in)
    3. Loosehead prop (right front of scrum)
    4 and 5 are Locks (usually tall guys jumping in lineout)
    6 and 7 are Flanks
    8 is called 8th man at the back of the scrum
    9 is the scrumhalve..feeds the scrum and passes the ball out
    10 flyhalve usually first receiver in the backline and often the kicker and playmaker
    11 is the left wing
    12 is inside center, stands next to the flyhalve. The inside center is usually quite big and runs into contact
    13 outside center. The outside center is usually still bigger than the wings but a bit quicker than the 12
    14 is the right wing
    15 is the full back, usually also a good kicker and functions as a last line of defence

    The green and gold is the Springboks, while the red kit is Tolouse, which is the French club he played for outside the international season..
    His new club is a Japanese club called Subtory Sungoliath.. For club rugby the players get contracts to play
    He started out in the blue and white kit which is a South Africa provincial club called Western Province or Stormers

  • @connorlongmore3813

    Another thing on the teams, rugby is an international sport with a national down structure. Players play professionally for clubs (like in the red he is playing for Toulouse and also Toulon, in the blue for Stormers, yellow for Tokyo Sungoliath) and they switch between these as often as someone offers a better contract but then if they are good enough they get picked for their national sides i.e. the Springboks and players generally don't play for more than one national side. The rules do allow you to switch to a different national side if you have not played for your national side in 3 years and qualify to represent a different nation you can so there are a couple players who have represented two countries. Players still get payed by their national sides but this is very variable depending on the national structure and finances of that country. In some places like Ireland and NZ the clubs are pretty much centralized and controlled by the national body so your paycheck would be coming from them anyway.

    Springbok is the other name for the South African national rugby team. It is not a club. Each player plays for the Springboks and their own clubs. Each club has three kits (Home, Away, and third Kit). Players who are traded frequently are usually in demand, and most teams will pay a lot of money just to have that player.

    I think the biggest difference between NFL and rugby is that rugby doesn't stop as much

  • @SShendrik
    @SShendrik 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You are 100% correct. In theory it should be much easier for a Rugby Union player to switch to American Football. But, and I stand to be corrected here, not many Union players successfully made the transition. The latest rugby star to try his luck at NFL is Louis Reese-Zammit, former Welsh International winger. Think he is part of the Jacksonville Jaguar squad.
    He is still very young and already made quite an impact in Rugby Union. Time will tell how successful his NFL career will be.
    With regards to NFL players moving to Union. I think their biggest drawback would be the fact that NFL positions are, in general, much more specialised than rugby union. NFL has an offensive team and a defensive team, while in Union the 15 players on the team are responsible for attacking and defensive plays.
    Rugby also has less stops than an NFL game, I suspect that Union players would be fitter on average. In Union even the bigger forwards are expected to get around the park, carry the ball, tackle, scrum, be part of lineouts etc.

    Mixed in here, just to slightly confuse things, was footage of CK when he played 7’s rugby. The latter is a version of the 15-man game - where both sides only have 7 players on the field each. Games are much shorter, because of how tiring it is to play on same pitch the 15-man side plays on. But makes for more tries. The Rugby World 7’s series sees competitions being played over weekends in different cities around the world, each year - for points, to then decide that year’s champion side.

    5:37 nah when the players do the little “victory lap” as you call it, they are actually just trying to get the try closer to the goal posts so that they have an easier kick when they go for the conversion.

  • @Cactus-Jack69
    @Cactus-Jack69 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Different uniforms basically means when you play for your club, provincial team and when playing for your country. They play club rugby during “off” season or not during South Africa’s International season, then they mostly play overseas hence different uniforms depending on which club you play for! Each team have two kits or uniform, Home & Away outfits

  • @ICT-t7n
    @ICT-t7n 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If they score the try under the poles then the conversion kick is in front of the poles. Likewise if the try is scored wide, the conversion kick is from wide out and more difficult. So you should always try to score under the poles because it makes the extra 2 points for the conversion more likely.

    The not Springbok kits are club kits for national matches. Where the ball touches down is where the conversion will be made. The do 'a lap' because they try to touch down as close to the center as possible to make the conversion much easier. A conversion is a 'field goal'.

    So Cheslin only plays internationally for the Springboks, as you can only play internationally for your home country (unless you emigrate to another country and qualify to play for their team, by ancestry or another legal means). When not playing for your international team, players play for different clubs. There are provincial clubs - Cheslin played for Western Province (blue and white stripes), in SA in what is called the Currie Cup, and professional franchises. In SA this was the Super Rugby Championship, which had teams from SA, Australia and New Zealand. Cheslin played for the Stormers in that (blue and white kit), then moved to the Sharks (black kit). Since 2021, SA teams left the Super Rugby Championship and joined the United Rugby Championship (URC), which has teams from SA, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. Cheslin has also played for Toulouse (black and red) and Toulon (red kit) in the French league and championship. There is also the Springboks alternate kit that they wear when playing away and the team they're playing against has a similar coloured kit. The Springbok one is aqua and white.

    • @GerritBarnard-v5k
      @GerritBarnard-v5k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the other side though I heard that Welsh national player who was really fast didn't do so well at the Chiefs. Problem is it's so technical with defence if say you have to sprint to a point and cover another player. Thats just what I read. Otherwise he'd be on special teams which only comes on for say punts (penalties) and kick returns which is what he'd be best at. Maybe for a lesser team but a top national rugby player didn't make the current best team in the league. He'd probably be alright about mid in the NFL. But I agree NFL has too much stop start, one play at a time.. Rugby is alot more aerobic needing strength and stamina.

    Just in case you didn't know, the Springboks are the South African (i.e. the COUNTRY at the Southern tip of the great land-mass South-East of the centre of the Universe) National team. Given he's one of the best on the planet, he's obviously going to get to represent his nation on numerous occasions. The other "kits" are colours of club sides he's represented over the years. And no, he IS pretty "tiny" in comparison to the majority of rugby players who are almost always over 6ft tall, with some approaching and exceeding 7ft. I think he's in order of 5'6". In a game where according to the purists, size DOES matter, he's gone a long way to disproving that notion...

    They run around in the in goal area so that the conversion that follows the try is from closer to the posts rather than from wider out because the kicker will have to take the kick from basically as far back as he wants but in line with where the ball was dotted down, so if he puts it down under the posts the kick will be right in front but if the try is scored in the corner the kick will be from out on the touchline. If you want good explanations for rules and positions check out Couch Rugby he breaks down the game really well for beginners and then does vidoes on each of the positions and their roles. Balances simplicity and detail pretty well.

    It's very strange how the USA doesn’t have teams that can beat other countries in the world. The Springboks is the National Team of South Africa. The biggest teams are the national teams of South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand (All Blacks), England, France, Australia, Scotland, Wales, Japan, etc. USA are at the bottom unfortunately. The other teams Kolbe plays for is just clubs, not national teams. You can't play for more than one National team. Very similar to USA tennis Davis Cup for example, can't switch countries. You play for your country, that's it.

    NFL players cannot survive in pro rugby. Rugby is a war of attrition where you're going to get tackled a lot and you're going to need to tackle a lot, and you're going to need to keep going and going and going. Many of them for 80 mins. Rugby players have been conditioned to do this since the age of six, and without that lifelong conditioning NFL players will just break down.

    in rugby you have internationals. that is the springboks or a national team. you have to perform well in club games if you want to get selected to play for your national team. kind of like if the NFL had to choose one all star team to play other countries. but American football is a American sport were rugby is a world sport. the oldest international rivalry in team sport is Springboks VS the all Blacks. south Africa VS new Zealand. fun fact we enjoy beating the snot out of England because of the Anglo Boer war. but no pink pommy can beat a BOER.
