      Needed to go is a wild take for one of our best hitters last season and our best defender. It's more the fact that it seems like we got barely anything back than we let them go.

    93 year old Larry and Paul Dolan aren't making roster decisions. They set a salary budget but Antonetti and Chernoff are the ones orchestrating trades and deals.
    It can't even be said that Paul pushed the Naylor trade for budget reasons as he's going to make about just as much as Santana this season

  • @mpklub
    @mpklub หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Yeah we get all of that. But those of us who have been fans since before the Dolans bought the team know that the problem with this trade is that they will never go all in for a few years to try and win a World Series. Its always doing just enough to stay competitive in the division, but not being willing to go all in for a 2-3 years to win it all. Those of us have been around a while are tired of it and tired of being told "its achtually a good trade, you just don't get it."
    No, we do. We just know ownership could do more to win a World Series and they won't.

    • @kent6732

      I think they would if the fans actually showed up at the games. It's a tall order to ask any owner to take a guaranteed loss. One thing we've seen for certain the past 20 years is that the fans show up for the Browns and ignore the Tribe....no matter what.

    Completely agree about Naylor swinging for the fences at every at bat, he was frustrating to watch at times. It's not just his shape, but also his injuries that are stacking up. He's projecting to be a player who is out of a job and into the minors as he gets to the other side of age 30. I don't think 2025 will be Cleveland's year as they played with house money in 2024, but they will compete. I see the team moving toward that possibility and hopefully they can pull it off before Ramirez is gone.

    On the pitching front, the acquisition of Ortiz from Pittsburgh intrigues me. He seems to have excellent stuff even though he hasn't quite established himself yet. It seems that he only needs a little tweaking to become a legit starter and the Guardians are very good at getting the most out of pitchers. Along with the acquisition of Slade Cecconi in the Naylor trade, they should have enough warm bodies now to fill out the rotation barring any significant injuries. You're right about the team needing another outfielder but I'm not sure they will make that move. We'll see.

    I agree the Guards are trying to build a team to beat the Evil Twins, namely NYY and ultimately, the Dodgers. In order to do that, they have to trade players like Gimenez and Naylor. They have to plan on their prospects playing great ball, and being selective hitters who get on base.

    Naylor gained so much weight, he must of went 280-290. He swung at every bad pitch imaginable. He ate his way out of Cleveland. I read that the Indians had no takers because of his weight. Jimenez offense was on downward slope. Manzardo is the heir apparent at first, so bring in Santana for a year. Second base will be between Juan Brito and Arias. Either one will put up some offense for a team that needs more run production. Big Christmas will get his opportunity to contribute, and he will. Lane Thomas?? And Ortiz from the Pirates is a stud. Don't forget about the pitchers they picked up. Tribe has a sense on how to make no names become impactful on the pitching side. One thing I wish for is a good hitting coach.

    When it comes to the Gimenez and Naylor trades. They make sense and arguably they were the right moves. Gimenez couldn't hit water in the playoffs with any type of success. Also while we could've afforded his salary this year. A guy hitting .240 if not worse at perts during the season. And developing questionable swinging out of the zone tendencies hurt him. As for Josh we had this plan in the works since we traded for Manzardo at the 23 deadline. Which people whined about because Civale was our ace. Which he was just healthy and benefitted from a great defense. He wasn't the same pitcher in Tampa. Hope Josh can get it right with the D Backs

    I like both trades. I think Ortiz can be a stud & Cecconi has some serious potential. We've got Brito to take over second base. Need some power in right field. I also like bringing Carlos back for trip number 3 with the team. He deserves the chance to retire in Cleveland & he finally got the Gold Glove he should have won before now. Go "Tribe" .. I will never call them the Guardians.

  • @nhennessy6434
    @nhennessy6434 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Naylor looks like he's eating himself out of baseball, and Giminez severely regressed at the plate. Santana should be either a wash or an upgrade, given his far better defense and plate discipline, and Brito could well be an upgrade as well if he proves himself a competent defender. And we did get a couple of good arms in return and a useful couple of prospects. So I really agree with both of those trades. Now they just need to get an outfield bat and another quality starter.

    Look my opinion is Travis Banza is ready to play day 1 so that explains the Andres Gimenez trade (Juan Britto shifts to a ulitly role). I don't think the Naylor completely but I'd prefer Clevland to trade Naylor Mckenzie and dip into the farm for someone like Brain Woo. I think the problem with the Bullpen in the postseason was they were overused and wore themselves out
    But as a Tigers fan the Al Central should be interesting. I'm gonna go out a limb and say Kannas City wins the Division because they have what's going to be IMO a top 5 rotation in all of baseball but Detroit and Clevland should challenge for a WC spot.

    Most of what you say is true. I don’t know how old you are and if you’ve been following since 1999 (when the Dolans bought the team). They bought the team for $320 mill and had $321 mill in the bank. It’s like buying a Ferrari but not having gas money. When you get close, you should add. The fanbase would be fine with a few down years if they went for the gusto when the team makes it to the ALCS. They did it in 2017 with Edwin and most fans would do that over again. It’s just frustrating to be above average for 25 years but never break through. Also, Kwan played his way out of Cleveland before last season even started. (And the Dolans get zero credit for Jose taking a 40% discount to stay here).

    Winning the pennant this year? Wtf are you smoking? While I agree with getting rid of Gimenez, Naylor was a major source of power in our lineup. Both were horrendous in the playoffs and provided no production. But if no one is brought in to replace the production they provided during the regular season, we’ll be looking at a 3rd-4th place in the division. Let’s not also forget our starting pitching was one of the worst in the majors all year long. We survived because of our bullpen. They can only be spread so thin before wearing down. I appreciate the optimism, but I think this year will be a wash. The Dolans will never go out and spend money when the team is close to a WS. That’s why most fans are fed up with them. Yeah it’s great to be competitive every year and be around 90 wins, but who really gives a shit if you never do anything in the playoffs. It’s happened too many times in the last 10-15 years.

      Gotten better???? He showed concerning statistical offensive AND defensive regression last season. After mid-April he hit ~0.230 the rest of the way. In April & May he hit 15 HR, but from June through the playoffs (5months) he only hit 16 HR. 0 HR in the playoffs w/a 0.225 BA, 0.275 SLG, & 0.531 OPS. He chased offspeed pitches down and out of the strike zone BIG TIME in Sept & Oct, looking clueless at the dish. It was obvious that he was lost at season's end, and it hurt the team BIG TIME when we needed him the most. His fattening physique and 1 year of remaining club control both contributed to his departure, but anyone with functional eyeballs who watched his statistical patterns throughout the season AND who watched him play everyday knows that he PLAYED his way out of Cleveland. I wish him all the best in Arizona, but the writing was on the wall that he wasn't coming back in 2025.

      His weight may or may not have increased over the course of 2024. That's debatable, but if he did add weight it didn't appear to be by leaps and bounds. However, his weight has definitely increased substantially over the past few seasons, and as he continues to age it will only make it harder for him to find the same success as in prior seasons. His very noticeable 2024 regression seems to be proof of that. Trading him is not the massive loss that a bunch of fans are making it out to be, unless Naylor finds tremendous success in AZ. I don't see that happening unless he eats better / trains harder to bring his weight down heading into 2025. I know I'd be doing so to increase my chances of a potentially big contract somewhere at season's end.
