Thank you. Just the info I needed from an experienced Canary Palm gardener. Live in the UK so perfect. Never had them before so very useful with the compost formulation. Like the quiet talking. So useful.
i like your voice the way you filmed it - just enough to be audible - most home made video the guys are almost yelling- i am watching the video like i am there, so i just need to be spoken to, not yell at. it actually is very calming.
I agree my voice was far too quiet on this one. Mainly because I was conscious that my neighbour could here me as he was just over the wall! I will do better in future videos.
My 30 gallon Jubae that I planted in my cul-de-sac island 🏝 survived its first winter. It got down to -9c one weekend and there are some brown sections on the new leaves.
Hi Kris I'm thinking of taking a Wagnerianus that is nitrogen sufficient, out of the ground and into a very large pot. Do I have to wait for spring to do this? I'll put a little chicken manure in the pot to remedy the low nitrogen levels.
Bauplunk yes wait until spring if going into I pot but I'm surprised there's a lack of nitrogen in your soil. It's easier to keep a plant healthy in the ground rather than a pot.
Thanks Kris. Its a paradox alright usually potted palms lose nitrogen, but it started off as a very dark green fronded palm, now they're lime green and starting to yellow. It was one of the first I ever planted the soil is very poor around the palm, and the roots probably grew into it. I'll pot it because it's one of the very rounded frond Waggies and looks out of place among the more tropical looking palms!

Yes, it's a tragedy indeed, that the Jubaea palm, is endangered in its native habitat, because a tree which takes 100 to 150 years to grow to maturity even in a subtropical environment, but then some bastard comes and cuts it down, because as it bleeds to death its lifeblood of sap, some woolly wombat reckons it's a good way to make up some grog on the sly, so they can get blotto on the cheap ! Unfortunately even in Australia and New Zealand, where in most areas the Jubaea palm would grow very very well, these palms are very hard to buy young ones of and very expensive, hence there's hardly any of them around as large adults ! I understand the situation is even worse for the closely related South African native in the Jubaea family as almost every single seed produced in the entire country gets eaten ! A shame this South Africans don't plant even just 1% of the seeds they harvest to grow new palms with. Fortunately the South African, Jubaea related palm has a tendency to sucker at the base, so a limited number of cloned palms, are able to be harvested to help replace dying old palms.

I can hear and understand every word. I don’t understand how others can’t?
Beautifully made video and the most informative one yet!

They're tough palms.
It's slowly bulking up. Check out my latest garden tour video
Hi Kris nice video
Can I use the same potting mix
for Canadian Date palm ?
Volume was fine for me nice thank you 👍🏻
Great video
Would this mix work with a canariensis I've got a whole bunch that need repotting but can't find any videos on them
Yes this mix would work well for canariensis
@@YorkshireKRIS thanks mate
You didn’t talk about teasing out the roots from their tight circle. I wonder if you did that?
The younger roots are quite brittle so not that easy to tease out

Nice informative video,Thanks.
I like the large Jubae in the background at1:50. Are these outdoors?
It's been planted out 10 years now
@@YorkshireKRIS As potted plants 🪴, were they kept indoors or outdoors?
@@eijiroinouye4115 mostly outdoors but in the garage when we had really cold winters
@Yorkshire Kris Exotic Gardening I guess it does well in your clay soil.
Beautiful palm!
Did you grow the large Jubae in the background to that Size yourself?
No it was bought that large and now much larger
@Yorkshire Kris Exotic Gardening Thank You. I believe that a Jubae that size is just as hardy as a Trachycarpus in my opinion
How 🤔 big is it now❓️
Hello, did you cut away some of the bottom roots? It looked as though you might have when you lifted it into the new container.
Hi, I kept all the roots as far as possible. The palm took a year to fully root through the new container.
Hi , can I plant humills dwarf fan palm in same way can i use same product please give me answer I need planting this week thanks
Sara Akthar you sure can
Thanks
My accent?, sound quality?
Ey up pal congratulations nice video
Good tutorial, but it really sounds like you're whispering into my ear. The cars on the street are louder.

jubaea is close to in danger due to people harvesting it for wine,
+Neil Bradley True, people growing them in garden is keeping them alive.

Joe flanagan later video has better sound :-)
Sound is almost gone. Not worth listening to nor watching.
Terry Doyle sound is not great. Guess I need a new video camera.
