    Usually I can solve art block by drawing from reference. I will just watch a video or movie and then pause it and draw the scene. Works everytime.

    1-I will normaly sit and write my ideas instead of ignoring them so when my art block flys i can come back to my ideas and it helps.👏👏
    2-i do redraw old drawing which is helpfull since i dont put lots of brain in it..👏👏💃🐓
    3-I do not think about it alot and kinda forget that i draw so i dont get tierd of thinking 👀.
    4-i draw a fast doodle in the middle of the page and start writing my thoughts aroud it 😃.
    Thats what i do yaaay 😂..

    I honestly real,t needed this video right now. I suddenly got an assignment for AP art that I didn’t know about that’s due tonight and I’ve been stressing and freaking out because nothing I had been trying or working on for the project wasn’t working and I just keep trying new things and the idea I’m working on for the project now actually looks good. Taming the break and waiting until this morning was the right choice for me.

    My favorite thing is also going on Pinterest, but I have this habit of being on there too long which makes it overwhelming for me to try and go back to my own sketchbook. But thank you for the advice, I'll try and remember it. Also, those were some great art pieces, you've got a fun style. The first page and the cat were my absolute favorites, really nicely done.

    I hope you keep uploading your art tips for a long time. It gives me so much motivation to keep drawing when no one around me just wants to spontaneously wanna go to a cafe just for a smol wholesome doodle date. Apparently, this is too much to ask so I'm left with sketching by myself. Until you upload, so I have someone to sketch and practice with!

    What I do when I have art block (or when my drawing quality just decreased) I go and watch your videos, then I go to Pewdiepie's to clear my mind off. If this doesn't work I go to pinterest and go to my boards like "ideas", "poses" and try to draw it in my style.

    I know this video is old and you probably don't read the comments, but I just have to tell you how much your videos inspire me. You're so down to earth and it's so refreshing to hear your perspective on things. It's helped me a lot, since you describe a lot of the thought processes I go through and feel, and it's helped me pick art back up. Now I'm improving way more than I thought I ever would, I'm going out of my comfort zone, and while technically I've done it myself, I still wanted to thank you for your videos! They've helped me out a lot :)

    I haven’t drawn as a habit for about a year now and I’m just getting back into it for the new year. I feel like I’m slogging through sketching things that used to make me feel good but don’t anymore... feel very down about my limitations and hate feeling like this: so it brings me hope to know that it’s an indicator that I’m going through a change in direction in my art journey. Just very anxious about it all!

    Two things that help me to fight an art block (i wish more ppl knew about this. Never heard anyone mention it before but these are literally the only 2 things that help me):
    1. Go back into you comfort zone. Many ppl get art blocked cause they feel bad about their art and they want to improve faster and try new things. And of course those drawings dont turn out as good as the stuff you're used to draw. So try to draw something easy. Like a random girl, easy pose. If you dont want to draw the other eye, cover it with hair. The finished drawing will look good and you'll feel better about your art and you get inspired.
    2nd point: doodle on cheap paper. Like printer paper. You'll feel more loosely and it'll be easier for you to just let your hand do what it wants and what feels right. (Same goes for digital art. i doodle on a super small canvas with low resolution. It has the same effect as drawing on printer paper for some reason :'D )
    Hope someone sees this. As i said, it's the only thing that helps me and i hope it'll help others too

    When I have art block it’s usually is because I juggle traditional art and digital,
    problem no.1 wanting both to match
    Problem no. 2 Device breaking or ruined sketch book
    Problem no. 3 every drawing looks the same or tired of my style
    These are the beginnings of every last art block I have ever had
    How I get over it, I look at my old art and what inspired me to draw in the first place and I do a lot of art challenges BTW I can’t wait till inktober

    Always insightful and uplifting! I feel like I've tapped into an artistic "rhythm" if that makes sense and frustration/art block seems to be part of the cycle. I definitely have artblock and I couldn't think of anything to draw for awhile I'm just now able to think of ideas to draw but still can't draw the last drawing I did was back on 12-27-14 and it was a realistic heart now I have all these ideas and can't seem to be able to put them to paper

  • @MusicalRaichu
    @MusicalRaichu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Timely video coz I'm feeling blocked today. I wanted to draw something but I couldn't get myself to do it.
    And yes art block (and writer's block etc.) is a symptom of an underlying problem. If you can identify the cause, it can give you some ideas for overcoming it.
    I think in my case it might be lack of confidence. I been sick on an off for a few months and gotten out of the habit of drawing and now I find I'm too scared to put pencil or paint on paper in case I mess it up.

    If I just can't figure out what to draw I will usually find a screen cap of an animated show that I like and I will try to redraw it and see how close I can get. To me it's an easy way to not feel pressured and treat it as a study in an area that I am struggling with

    For me artblock works a bit different. I can draw just fine and I have so many ideas but I just can't find the motivation and desire to put them on paper. I think of something super exciting that I'd love to create but at the end I never do. And it's genuinely so damaging to me because I end up not drawing for months, even years, and I have no idea how to deal with it or overcome it 😖

    Art block is rough for sure. I go through these slumps where I'm just not motivated to do anything tho???? Like it's not that I can't draw I just don't feel up to it. It's hard to further push skills when I just can't seem to find a way to keep going. Idk if this still counts as art block or not but it's very frustrating

  • @ardrawsstuff808
    @ardrawsstuff808 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Art block is a lack of new experiences in your life, caused by doing the same things every day. Having new experiences like going somewhere, or doing different things can help.
    Even reading more books, because it's like living someone else's life for a while.
    Drawing from life, people don't do that nearly often enough.
    Copying old oil paintings or drawings of people you admire to learn how they do things. It isn't original, but if you are just learning and not taking credit it is fine. Besides, what's original anyway?

    Recently, my dad died, and he was an artist.
    I want to study fine arts next year and i am working at my portfolio, or at least i should be.
    But everytime I draw I can't help but think of him and the hours we spent drawing together and after 1 hour i am so done and almost drowning in my own tears....
    Anyone with similar experiences who can share some tips?

    • @sauteedbread
      @sauteedbread 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Janine Buchholtz maybe try to draw in smaller increments, like do thirty minutes at a time, or you could maybe try to get it out and move through the grief process faster and maybe draw a tribute to him or something, but be careful and you know what’s best for you. It’s not the same, but my cat died around a year ago and I couldn’t even hear about a cat dying without getting really upset but I finally did a tribute to her in my scrapbook and finally put in the card from the place that did the euthanasia, her paw prints, etc and it was very difficult to get through but now it’s a bit easier to think about her. Sorry this is so long haha

  • @Ghostkar
    @Ghostkar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you're drawing for cookie cutter perfection rather than enjoyment what's the point? The comparison ride is never wise advice for aspiring artists. Style develops with persistence and practice not hating your art. The freedom to create without restraints is what art is. If you make a couple pieces you don't like so what? Save em and go back and look at them later in your journey. If you don't know what to draw just practice. Those pieces you think are bad? See what you need to work on and work on it. Art shouldn't be a drag just because your life is and your art doesn't look like what society deems art. Look at Van Gogh. People flat out hated his art style to his face. He still kept doing his own thing.
