    I went to the Lawn & Landscape In Hattiesburg last week.
    Got to ride a Walker.
    Loved it.
    When they raised the deck there was a second blade above the cutting blade. It was about half the size of the cutting blade.
    It wasn't there for cutting. They said it created a circulation of air flow pushing the grass back down in the center.
    Genius!
    Never seen that before.
    I failed to ask if that was just for on certain models. But it was a mulching deck.
    Makes sense.
    Thanks for the video.
    I always appreciate what you produce 👍

    Thank you for your video. Equipped with this knowledge I went to work on a friend's Walker which looks almost identical and had flax wrapped around the blades. The deck is not secured with levers like yours but with special nuts, tilting the deck required brute force. The blades are different from yours, four each side and the main securing bolt on the shaft is not a 24mm hex but a large size allen key socket which I didn't have. Anyway I could cut the flax but could not remove the blades for sharpen or replacement. Obviously Walker have developed different systems for their models. This one is about 12 years old.
    But thanks for your effort it gave me the confidence to try.
    Cheers from New Zealand, Reiner.

    You saved my life I needed to know how to get the blade up to get a rope u tangled underneath

    I have not seen the shear bolt set up before. That would have saved me a lot of money when I hit a tree stump under some leaves. I will look seriously at Walker because of it.

      it was a little scary though once cus a lady left the metal triangle bolt for her dog leash in the ground without a leash on it and it blended in with the color and height of the grass. my blades were on seperate corners of the lawn and one of the discs was clear on the other side

    very helpful video. We got an old Walker mower from my father in law and I love using it. I've been really curious to learn all about it in order to maintain it well. I will be scared to try stuff like this at first but the second time I should be okay. Thanks again. Stay safe and God Bless! New friend here.

    I have a 23-year-old Walker. :) Same procedure.
    On a side note, Do not over tighten with that gigantic breaker bar. I don't have 23mm nut, your torque might be different.
    Straight from the owner book:
    NOTE: Tightening the 5/8-18 blade mounting nut to 60 ft-lb (81.3 N⋅m) is also important for proper shock load protection. It is important to not overtighten the mounting nut since this defeats (overrides) the function of the shear bolts.

    • @JasonCarmichael
      @JasonCarmichael 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      PS, 23mm = 15/16 in
      60ft/lb is surprisingly not much, especially with a long breaker bar.

  • @unityroad
    @unityroad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The correct torque is 60lbs. Reason is if they are too tight it defeats the sheer bolts, thus damaging drive live if hard object hit. Always use a torque wrench.

      That is like the holy grail for walkers. Legend says Bob Walker still can't find the last 2 fittings :) Seriously I will have to try that sometime. I know this comes up a lot!

    You know how I know you’re a legit DIY lawn guy? You went out and got yourself a freakin’ ti25
    I’ve been pondering the idea of a walker but it’s going to take an act of Congress to convince my accountant (aka, wife)

    Good video. I'd recommend checking your owner's manual for the torque specs for the blades - should be 60 lb-ft. If over torqued, the shear bolts on the blade hub will not shear as designed if you hit something, instead damaging the gear boxes. Directly from my Walker owner's manual, under Blade Overload Shear Bolts, "NOTE: Tightening the 5/8-18 blade mounting nut to 60 lb-ft is also important for proper shock load protection. It is important to not over-tighten the mounting nut since this defeats (over-rides) the function of the shear bolts."

      Great point. I will double check these to make sure. All great info thank you

    • @michealcook1729
      @michealcook1729 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep ...... 60 ft-lbs for Walker gear driven decks and 70 for their belt driven ones. I have their 52" SD deck and it is incredible.

      Silver: Can you make a video about the blower lockout kit on your MT25i? I saw a post you made I found using a Google search. I have the kit but haven't installed it yet. It would be very much appreciated.

    Silver Cymbal is this what you use to mow your lawn?, can you please do a homeowners review of the Walker? I’ve seen lawn guys review thiers , but no reviews from homeowners, is this mower brand new?, what year is it?

    • @SilverCymbal

      Yes currently that is my main mower. I appreciate the idea. I will see what I can do about putting on together for you. Keep watching and hopefully soon.

      one great thing about the GHS is they go backwards up hills very well if you know how to control them and keep them from bucking but it takes a lot of practice. ud be surprised what you can get up. but its so hard to tell when they are full sometimes. you have to either have to listen very carefully for a slight whining noise, or lift the back with your hands now and then learn the weight like i do, or even just take the bins out and blow the grass out the back if you dont care

      I rode a walker for 6 years, when they are looked after, sweet machine..
      But in New Zealand, you better have deep pockets if and when something goes south.
      I’m not sure what they cost in the states? Here it will cost $20,000+ with all the bells and whistles, to buy a new machine.

    Can you please provide the links or websites to where the blades and new hardware (sheer bolts, lock washers, etc) can be purchased?

      You can use any bolt that fits through with a lock nut on it, or find your local walker dealer, in NH it’s 15.00 for a bag of 12

    The sheer boolts, they are just stainless steel, and if they sheer, there is a chance the blades will meet each other and make a mess.
    Having said that, busting a set of blades is better than busting a set of deck gearboxes...
    Also, on my deck (similar to yours) it has a label to check the torque tension of the blade bolts weekly at 60ft-pounds of torque.

    Aren’t the blades meant to be at 90 degrees to each other in a gearbox deck?

    • @1koshari
      @1koshari 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you watch the video, when they are timed they are 90 deg offset from one another, and these blades rotate counter to one another so at all other angles other than 12, 3 , 6 or 9 oclock they could be at any arbitrary position. also as he says in the video they are keyed so you cannot pit them on incorrectly, only mistake you can make is put the ccw blade on the cw hub or vice versa.
