ARE YOU FANS KIDDING ME!?! You think this isn't dark? Been following these kats since Charlie Everywhere days and THIS is still very dark. The sounds, Textures, even that House sample. THE LYRICS. Very dark but very strong and progressive!! Everyone needs to really dive deep into the song. The more I listen to it the more dark it becomes for me. The Era of III is HERE. Love the evolution of this band.
I love everything but I think they played with the vocals too much. I wish they sounded less edited or distorted or whatever the technical term is (I know 0 about music production). Everything else is flawless. The video is meh too.
Actually they didn't. Their vocals were always somewhat produced, lots of delays, reverbs etc. Now they are dryer but there is indeed some distorting effect going on. To be fair though, this is standard practice in the industry. The video could be better. Sarah doesn't need to show that much skin (the lyrics are used as a poor excuse for the slutty look), but I 'm sure some manager is behind that decision... It surprises me too that people don't think this is dark. It's actually much darker than "fall in love".
This is gonna sound so stupid, but the lyrics to this song describe exactly how I've been feeling and I couldn't even explain it myself... Everything is so different than it once was, and it's not as exciting as it used to be. Constantly trying to chase the high to get that feeling back but it's gone. Just crazy I can't stop listening
I kinda know how you feel. Me and my sister have been reminiscing about how great life was back in the 80s. But it's just definitely not the same anymore. Not that we haven't had other good times. It's just there was something magical about the 1980s. It's strange too, because back then we couldn't wait till we could 'party like it's 1999.' We looked forward to the future. Now it's just so not the same anymore. I don't want to sound all doom and gloom but I really never thought about a pandemic happening. At least, not in my lifetime. Oh well, you just never know what's going to happen to you until you die.🤷♀️
@John Bold I can definitely see your point and you put it so well. I'm trying to be optimistic about the future right now. But when you watch the news it all comes back. I mean now we have some new strains of the virus coming from South Africa and other places and it reminds you once again what kind of times we are living in. Off subject a bit, but I heard yesterday that Tony Bennett has Alzheimers disease and that he is really confused sometimes because he forgets that we are battling Covid and he wants to go out and do the things he used to without a mask. So the news I was watching was saying a lot of Alzheimers patients don't understand the virus because they forget. I mention this because it just goes to show how the virus is affecting so many people in so many ways. I have a friend who is pregnant and I can't help but worry for her and the baby. Plus, I can't imagine being so young and having to grow up around Covid. I just don't know when we are going to get a break? You know? I'm really trying to think, 'one day this will be over' but it's difficult. Although, I do also agree that there are other things I miss about the 80s. I still miss that sense of looking forward to the future. I guess we all have to try to live the rest of our lives to the fullest no matter what and just be careful. That's about all I can say to try to be optimistic about the world today. I wish I could say, 'oh I love the 2020s' but unfortunately I can't. I saw another comment section on TH-cam the other day and it had a comment under an article about Covid that said 'I hate the 2020s' and the person was talking about how we will say that someday in the future too. It's just such a shame and just a bad time right now. It makes me think that I wish I would have been born in my grandmother's day. She has since passed but she was born in better times. Even though she went through the depression and World War II and that sort of thing, she still lived a life where they used to talk about the 'good old days'. I guess I can say I had the 70s, 80s and 90s. But, to me anyway, it seems like things started to go downhill little by little after that. But I still keep hoping that someday it'll get better. That's really about the only thing we can do now. Sorry to go on so long. It's been nice talking to you. And I hope we'll have better times in the future. I wish you all the best.🙂

Sorry to sound too doom and gloom about Covid but I'll just be glad when it's over. Whatever it takes for that to happen. @John Bold That is a trip that I just read what you described! I have been saying that same exact thing for a few years now. When I was younger life just felt so much more vibrant and colorful. Now I'm into my early 40s and life just feels a lot more gray and colorless. It's crazy how the way we view the world changes as we progress through life.

I love the contrast between the chorus/verses and the pre-chorus. This song is so underrated. Not helped by the fact that most people know it from Billie Eilish. Don't get me wrong, her cover was great, but because her fandom is so huge (and I am part of it, this is not meant as any hate towards her.) it means that some of Phantogram's fans are a little swamped making this "The song that Billie Eilish covered" instead of "The song that Phantogram wrote."

Saw Phantogram at Upstate Concert Hall last summer, finally, after trying to get to see this very local band (I grew up one town over from where they did) for years. Excellent performers and brilliant music!

I love both versions honestly, in this original the singer's voice is sweet and on the three days grace version there's more instrumental work, and matt's voice is rough which gives the song idk a darker tone

I fell in love with this song in the first listen. For me, it's the example of a perfect song. For you uptight fans, rather than thinking that they should crank out the same materials again and again, you should be supportive they are reaching out for a bigger audience, and it definitely worked.

I heard this song a couple years after a close friend’s drug-related suicide. It chilled me to the bone and still does. I walked with her to the end, stared with her into the abyss. Her suffering and death nearly made me find out how far down it is. I have God to thank for my sanity and protection. This song is obviously written by a survivor. I feel her pain, and love the song at the same time.
Honestly I barely listen to that kind of music, but you guys have amazing music. I am here because of you and the amazing voice Sarah has. I have never heard the other versions and I won't really bother. Cheers for the good music

I came here from the three days grace cover.. and for all those people who are comparing both of them and saying tdg did it better and hating on phantogram.. think about by this.. if phantogram didn't make this song in the first place .. there would be no cover for it and you wouldnt have been able to enjoy tdg version anyways.. always respect the original. and its artist.. hell even I am a rock and metal fan and i feel this song is so badass.. huge fan

I just heard on Pandora that three days Grace did a cover so I had to look it up. yes it is amazing too. I can't say one is better than the other. I have a vast music variety I listen to so they both sound great to me in different ways.
This song.. has new meaning for me now, as recently my best friend and love of my life broke off with me, as he started new addictions which took priority over me. Afterward, still as "friends" at his birthday get together, I tried one more time to be in his world... and did what he was doing. Had my first seizure and got taken to the ER. Though that was the last straw that helped me separate from him and his activities, I remember how important I still was to him... he was so scared for me as I seized and when I awoke he begged me to go with the paramedics that arrived... and a while later when I got wheeled into my room at the hospital, 2 texts came in on my phone from him... "Are you ok?" "Please be ok" We loved each other deeply... but it very well may have killed me to stay with him.

I heard this song a couple years after a close friend’s drug-related suicide. It chilled me to the bone and still does. I walked with her to the end, stared with her into the abyss. Her suffering and death nearly made me find out how far down it is. I have God to thank for my sanity and protection. This song is obviously written by a survivor. I feel her pain, and love the song at the same time.

This song.. has new meaning for me now, as recently my best friend and love of my life broke off with me, as he started new addictions which took priority over me. Afterward, still as "friends" at his birthday get together, I tried one more time to be in his world... and did what he was doing. Had my first seizure and got taken to the ER. Though that was the last straw that helped me separate from him and his activities, I remember how important I still was to him... he was so scared for me as I seized and when I awoke he begged me to go with the paramedics that arrived... and a while later when I got wheeled into my room at the hospital, 2 texts came in on my phone from him... "Are you ok?" "Please be ok" We loved each other deeply... but it very well may have killed me to stay with him.
