We aren’t all pet smart groomers. The secret is to find a sole proprietor shop and support your local small business.

If you are getting a puppy then you'll want to let the hair grow out for at least 9 months or 1 year so that you don't have the puppy coat tangling up with the adult coat. You can start getting these types of styles from that point on. The legs and ears may be a wee bit shorter, but the face shaping can start pretty early! How very exciting!

PurdyBear1 There are practice models for dogs. You can purchase many different types as well. They are especially popular with the Asian grooming schools but are gaining ground here in the US as well.

Wash your dogs face daily. It’s that simple really. None of my pups have staining because I keep their face clean. You don’t even need soap. Just a warm wash rag used every single day will do the trick. It’s important to remove any eye gunk every day to cut down on infection or sores under the eyes.

Thanks for the video, your babies are beautiful! I'm planning on grooming my 3 Malteses myself as it's getting too expensive at the groomers. I invested in some Andis ultra edge clippers and blades. My groomer always cut them pretty short but I think they may have been a little matted that's why, but after seeing your pooches I'm tempted to grow their hair, to get that beautiful long silky hair do brush daily? My one girl who's 8 months has long silky hair but her parents are quite curly, so my question is can a curlyish Maltese eventually grow a coat like your's or are some just not meant for long hair?

Sweetie, You don't want a micro tea cup. I have had Maltese for 25 years and always wanted a tiny one. I lost my Prancer a year ago, He was 2.3lbs with serious health problems, which I found out within a week of buying him. If I had not been an R.T. he would not have lived a month, the vet said. He lived to be 7, with an ER vet saying he wouldn't make it when he was 4, but he did. He was a fighter and fought to live for me. When he did pass, he wanted my permission, he took two breaths and was gone. I could not leave Prancer with anyone as he was so fragile. I took him everywhere with me shopping, restaurants, vacation. I had to care for him like an infant for 7 years. I also learned to groom him as I could not leave him with a groomer. I had an autopsy done as I wanted to know what was the cause of all his issues. He was born with a bad liver which stunted his growth. It has been a year and I still cry over him. I am thankful for the time I had with him. I have two Maltese now that are 9 and 11 months. My new babies are 4 and 5 lbs. and healthy which is the most important. I like small Maltese but not 2 LBS anymore as that is abnormal.

'Micro' and 'teacup' dogs aren't AKC registered breeds. They are normally the result of inbreeding. These dogs are rarely healthy and even though they may be cheaper out of the gate they are much more costly in the long run due to vet bills. If a breeder is constantly talking about how small their maltese puppies are they are not a good breeder. You want to find a breeder that cares about the health of the mom and the puppies. You can find good breeders on americanmaltese.org or on the AKC website. Maltese are normally between 5-9 lbs when full grown; the size depending on genetics. Please always look for a healthy puppy and caring breeder before buying.
Paige Hibbert teacups are never cheaper they always cost more teacups can cost up to $6000 and standard according to AKC is 7lbs and under with 4-6lbs being preferred
