  • This is my first play test of the Victor III phonograph that I just repaired to working order after the atrocious things that had been done to it by a previous "repair" person. This is a 1918 repressing of the 1917 Livery Stable Blues by the Original Dixieland Jass Band on Victor batwing label 18255.
    My first open-horn machine!

Nice job on the Victor III. They can be frustrating at times. Like Goldilocks it was the 3rd one that was, just right for me😅

Frustrating is right! As it is it sounds like I need to go in and give the governor shaft a bit of oil, speed seems slightly inconsistent. I just have to make sure the springs NEVER wind fully down, I'd hate for it to lose its catch inside and have to go through that ALL over again ;-)

This record is supposedly not too difficult to find, but whenever I come across a copy, it’s either priced unreasonably high or the bids go beyond what I’m willing to pay.

This one was listed on Discogs in Fair condition for $19. Given the description it sounded like a fine player to me. I picked it up and turns out it was WAY better than described. Happy to have a copy in my collection.
