I watched this film over and over after my mom died when I was 21. This movie literally saved my life. I still turn to it when I feel down like an old friend.
there is something in Kirsten's face... this "weird" mix of tiny pointy teeth, nearly no upper lip (and not so much lower lip), her wide face, tha pale skin tone, her slim eyes... I really like her face.
Not my favorite movie but enjoyable and not afraid to fail. It follows the lesson in this scene. Like appending a 10-minute road trip to the end of a movie that's not about a road trip? That's unheard of!
It's kind of weird why people call him a bad actor when he just plays the roles he's given. In Troy he was given the stupid spoiled prince and he played it. In Pirates he was given the inexperienced lovesick fool and he played it. It's not like he's given these super complex flamboyant roles like Jack Sparrow or Achilles, so he's just the guy standing next to someone like that and being that guy. Even in a Pirates interview, he wanted more creative control over his character like Johnny had and asked Gore Verbiknski if he could make Will Turner "cool" like Jack, but Gore told him Nope, not my vision for the story. Orlando even went on the Conan O'Brien show and literally said "When Johnny started doing his Jack Sparrow thing I was like, Ok I'll be the straight guy." An interviewer once asked him Wow you've been in these mega smash hit blockbuster Hollywood trilogies so what's next for your huge looming career!!!!! and Orlando was just like I... just want to do smaller independent films. You can see why, because he's clearly more in his element in indie films. For instance in Zulu 2013 I think he really broke his own typecast mold by playing a womanizing, functioning alcoholic bad cop opposite to Forrest Whitaker's good cop and he really sold the "tortured and troubled past" for me. But I guess that doesn't sell to teenage girls the way "swashbuckling knight in shining armour" does.
This guy is a weak. I know because I am he. A strong woman came and put her everything on the line- Brave. Yet he is there whining. Funny how art immitates life. She is quite a bit stronger than he.
