i like how nice the girl doing the makeover is, she’s not rude and is pretty nice in telling her what she wants to change. She at the end even says “but not improved” because she already looked good
You’re so right. Even her ‘nerdiness’ is actually quite charming. She looked fine with glasses and long hair. Rachel Leigh Cook is a fine actress and this is, to me, unquestionably her best performance.
90s and early 2000s movies like this one and Princess Diaries completely screwed up my view on wearing glasses when I was young. When I was told that I needed glasses at age 12, I was devastated. I was like "This is it, I am the ugly unpopular girl now", I was so SO ashamed. I'm glad that teenage girls nowadays don't think like that anymore, glasses are a pretty accessory now. Until today when I'm having a bad day I still feel self-conscious about wearing glasses and I'm 26 now. It's just been burned into my brain that glasses are unattractive when I was a child, guess I'll never fully get rid of it (I don't think like that about other people who wear glasses though).
I enjoy how Mac says “new, not improved but different” cause Laney didn’t need to improve and Mac recognizes that. Sure she looks different but Laney is still Laney and I like that
Laney was beautiful before her makeover. Mackenzie just showed her how to embrace her beauty and get her to open up and come out of her shell. Zack was the one who got her to break some of her barriers. It wasn't until Zack saw how vulnerable Laney felt that he was genuinely in love and didn't care about the bet.
They would always make sure the girls had the largest most awkward looking glasses frames & lenses too! Nowadays you can get glasses that have much smaller prettier frames but I have yet to see one of these movies that, instead of just completely getting rid the glasses, has the girl getting the makeover switch from having an ugly awkward big pair of glasses to a more elegant pretty smaller pair of glasses 😊
I absolutely love Rachael Leigh Cook. I loved her in _She's All That, Josie and the Pussycats, Perception, Carpool, Scorched_ and _Get Carter_ (2000). She's my favorite actress, childhood crush, spirit animal and queen. Rachael Leigh Cook is love. Rachael Leigh Cook is life. Rachael Leigh Cook is all that.
@@omegaalex601 He was the son in Rocky Balboa. And he showed up in Creed at the end. Sage Stallone Sly's real son played his son in Rocky 5 . You just got Rocky 5 mixed up with Rocky Balboa which technically was part 6.
I appreciate Zack pointing out the reason he didn't want to accept her as the chosen one, wasn't because she was unattractive, cause clearly she's not. I also like how after her makeover everyone still recognized who she was because afterall it was only a haircut and contacts. Sometimes these makeover movies make it seem like they're seeing totally different person.
I love how what was considered in need of a makeover back then is now in 2020s fashionable and stylish aka vintage i wear my dungarees and i love them and im growing my hair as long as i can. She was beautiful before and after i like how , now its all diferent styles that are considered whilst walking around unique stylish and gorgeous. Its just the television and media that aims for perfection that isnt real.
I watched this movie like more than 10 times. Just reminiscing the good 90s ❤❤❤ will watch it again sometime in the future 😊😊😊 gosh i just love this movie
I don't remember much about this movie. Or even if I've seen it all. But one can probably appreciate how it apparently challenges superficiality, social hierarchies, and other questionable practices of society. The "nerd" and the "Chad". "Beauty and the Beast" There probably should be more stories like these being told. Whether in literature or film.
This stories of "superficiality, social hierarchies, and other questionable practices of society" have been written about for over FIVE HUNDRED YEARS and 2500 years if you include the Greek Tragedy plays!!! What the EFF are you reading in school nowadays?? Throwing the entire Shakespearean library at your feet, as well as 10 volumes of Greek tragedy plays, the Bronte sisters, Dickens, Jane Austen....
@@jasonmistretta4295 I'm not in school If more stories of what I am talking about are being made then I don't know about them. I can't keep up with everything in the world or every story being made. Relax. If there even are alot being made that is.
@@MrWolfchamp-xi3cu My comment wasn't about what is being made NOW. My comment is about how stories like this one has been made hundreds of times over thousands of years. A person only needs to grab a book to learn about them/ relive them. Nothing being made in movies today hasn't already been written about in the past.
This is one of those countless silly Hollywood / TV things where they take a beautiful girl or woman, put dorky glasses and clothes on her and try to pass her off as homely. And no, the dorky name doesn't change that. Helen Keller could have seen Rachel Leigh Cook was hot. It's exhausting.
I never liked this film's attitude to wearing glasses, it just perpetuated the stigma for women. She was already the most attractive woman in the film. She didn't need to take them off to be pretty.
This isn't about making a women beautiful but presentable with confidence. Think pretty woman buying clothes and marching back into the other store saying "BIG MISTAKE."
The original and best versión cause the so called sequel on Netflix more or less sucks cause Rachels Charcter is just barely there and we didnt know how she married and divorced to so and so the original best

"The girl" is Anna Paquin!!
@@amtgmedia6295 I KNOW I NOTICED, I WAS LIKE “wait isn’t that the girl from fly away home?”
Anna is very beautiful. She’s grown into her beauty along the years.
She’s the main guy’s younger sister. And I agree, wish we saw her more with Laney
Laney looked gorgeous even before her makeover, her glasses really suited her. They should have called this movie "She's Already That!"

She could easily play an temptress who disguised herself as an innocent bookworm, kinda like Sosuke Aizen in Bleach.

I love that every 90s makeover of an "ugly" chick simply involved removing her glasses
Sometimes it a little better with no glasses cause thier glasses don't always fit how they look
That's it. I did it. I'm a genius!
And then Tina Fey made everyone put them back on.

Name another movie that does this?
It wasn’t so much of it being a makeover for Laney, but more of how she carried herself and how that makes an impression to others.
That always counts. Like Talula from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Difference though is Talula had contacts, I don't think Laney did...
A lesson for life

I keep thinking of Not Another Teen Movie - Laney literally took her glasses off and let her hair down.
Which of course was just a parody of this exact scene
And overalls!
Milo Ventimiglia randomly entering as one of the cleaning boys❤❤❤
does anyone else find it super attractive when he says are you ready?
Rachel Leigh Cook said that they put her in a dress 1-2 sizes too small so that it would look “sexier”.
