As a marching drummer in high school, we wrapped our sticks in electrical tape the same way shown in this video for them to last longer and my music teacher literally would wrap a pair of sticks in maybe a minute and a half. Then again he's been doing it twice a year for 30+ students at a time for 20 years, but still. It's cool to watch
Just wrapped my son's bat with the 1.8 and it is as easy as it looks. Some advice for those using the 1.8: Use an one dot overlap with a tape that thick. I did, and thank goodness. A two dot overlap would have felt like a sponge. Also, the 1.8 finishing tape is thick. Just the electrical tape will do unless you want the cosmetic effect.
@@wiegelja Nah. But it is what a lot of the manufacturers use on their wraps from the factory. I always thought it made a nice finish and kept the wrap from unraveling. But if you get certain colors it might ruin the look. My son always uses black, so it doesn't matter

Does it matter which direction you wrap? How tight should you pull it as you go? How much overlap is recommended? About how far down the bat does it cover if you go one dot overlap? ...2 dot overlap? Why are none of these obvious answers covered?
A different video mentions to go from left to right if you are a right hand batter. Overlap one or two dots on the grip max based on your preference. I don't know what the correct answer is but I cover less dots the higher the thickness otherwise it feels too bulky.

3 years later. There is difference for Rh and lh hitters. This shows for RH, it has to do with longevity of tape job/feel. In a swing, your top hand rotates, the tape in this direction allows that rotation of top hand to not have resistance and also makes it so your glove doesn't rub hard against the tape. Helps preserve batting gloves as well. If you swing without batting gloves you'll really notice the difference in direction of tape :)
What's the feeling on adding wrap overtop of existing? I have a brand new Miken bat and it has a fairly thin handle area. There's nothing wrong with the wrap, but I'd like to add some thickness. Can I use .5mm or 1.1mm and go right over top?
The video does suck. Stretch it some with firm but even pressure while you wrap to keep the wrinkles out, as you go down the bat you’ll have to “steer” the tape to get the overlap even

I have a problem. My son bought the 1.8 ultra home today from Dick's. I started to peel back the adhesive cover, and the glue stuck to the 3M layer, and not the Bat Grip itself. Essentially making the Bat Grip useless because it won't stick to his bat. Truly disappointed for my son.

Would have been cooler if he knew what the parts of the bat were actually called. Or explained how much to overlap. Or explained how tight to pull the tape. But he sure does know how to wrap a bit nicely.
My Coaches told us the amount of overlap is personal preference but keep it consistent. That's how I apply my daughter's grip tape & it's always worked for us (she's playing 14u now, started in 6u) and I go with a little tension as I'm applying it but not much.

You’d probably take off the old thin one, to replace it with a single thicker one. Instead of doubling up. Lizard skins only cost around $15.

So you have to take the original gripping off or it doesn’t matter.?
Any grip that's on the bat needs to be removed and that adhesive that's left needs to be removed also.

I was told the 1.8 is what comes on most bats. So with that if you are looking for similar fit go that route.
