    The impressive range and SUV styling look set to make it a popular addition to Skoda's SUV range, alongside the Kamiq, Kodiaq and Karoq.

    I totally agree with Robert Berry. SUVs are unnecessarily large vehicles for most. I drive an e-Golf on a fully tax-deductible business lease and will switch over to a Kia e-Niro 4+ next year which has a 284-mile range. It’s a compact crossover with REAL knobs for the radio and air-con. I really don’t get all these totally screen-based EVs - it must be MUCH more distracting to alter simple settings whilst on the move! [...but a great cost-cutting measure for the manufacturers]. I can’t imagine many of the voice-controlled command systems are that perfect yet, so it’s a backward step to totally move away from simple knobs & buttons which have been refined over the past 100 years! And don’t even get me started on the haptic steering-wheel controls on the VW id range! 🤬. I love technology & gadgets. I *really* want a decent Head-Up Display in my next car to easily see navigation/ speed-limit data. The marketing persuades that all these flat screens in a vehicle are the latest cutting-edge improvements - alone they are not. Not yet.

      Big screens really are the new trend. We think you're right - manufacturers are pinning their hopes on voice control reaching a level where it actually works. Unfortunately, very few instances where voice control is up to the level it needs to be.
      Our editor reviewed the good and bad for his Tesla Model 3 - he says the screen is a double-edged sword. Great for a lot of things, but a few buttons for climate control would be handy:

    Skoda is bang on the money with this car, I think it will sell like hot cakes. Quite correct to price it around battery size and to offer a myriad of options although those options are likely to make the car a fair bit more expensive on a PCP as the cost of them will probably have to be amortised in full over the 3/4 year period.
    Personally I think it looks more estate car-like than hatchback - and we all know Skoda makes brilliant estate cars. I absolutely love it and will definitely be looking at one to replace my SEAT Leon ST.
    Good video although are actually 4 interior trim choices not 3 as stated 😉

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andrew, we think it will be popular too.
      It actually looks like there are now five interior trim options. I think this video was correct at the time of recording - when the original press release came through, Skoda only mentioned Loft, Lounge and Suite trims.
      Now appears there is also EcoSuite and Lodge. I may have missed it at the time, but looking online it seems other publications also believed there were only three. Thanks for pointing out though.

    Dimensions of the boot-space would be useful. Thanks.

    • @dmorgsev
      @dmorgsev 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would be, but don't think they're available yet. Certainly didn't have them at the time of making the video, and a quick Google yielded no positive results. Sorry.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We will have another thorough look, but we're pretty sure the boot dimensions aren't out yet.

    It makes sense to give battery size options. I live in a semi rural location so will go with large battery and a towing hitch so we can go on holiday with a tailer or boat. No mention on here about the heat pump option, is it worth the extra. I am thinking not if there are enough charge points available.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We think so too, Tony. Choose battery size first and then everything else.
      You're right about the heat pump. It's something we can cover if we get to test the Enyaq for real :)

    I think this is a great looking EV but would have preferred a smaller saloon/hatchback car format because I don't (and never have) had the need for something as big as an SUV - even when my two kids were very young. I believe the SUV format, particularly in ICE models, is causing great damage to the environment.
    I bet I am not alone in seeing the majority of SUV's with just one person in them. And don't get me started on the subject of SUV's being parked badly in car parks (that weren't designed for vehicles as big as this) and especially on the edges of pavements! ............ Sorry of that sounds like a bit of a rant 😟
    I know that sales of SUV's around the world are enormous, so it's easy to understand why Skoda have gone for this format but I hope it isn't too long before they introduce some smaller saloon/hatchback models into their EV model range.

    • @dmorgsev
      @dmorgsev 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a lot of people will be with you, there Robert. The general consensus among many car journalists is everything you could want from an SUV, another car type does it better.
      Which is true, but I suppose SUV buyers like the looks and the all-round capability even if they aren't as capable off road as a proper off roader, or have the efficiency of a small hatchback, or don't have the ample boot space of an estate.
      Then it comes down to what is available. Market is flooded with SUVs so that's where the most choice is. Shame, perhaps, but its the ongoing trend.

      Agree. I went for ID3 for that reason. Would have waited for Škoda if their first MEB EV had been their ID3 equivalent.

      Got it 16.10.20. I love it. Feels very solid, excellent interior space, great lights in and out, significant autonomous driving capability. I new software wasn’t complete, but glitches with We Connect app mean I can’t access my free charging when I need it (this month- my home charger is due to be fitted next month). Don’t miss knobs for controls at all. Predicted range is impressively accurate. Moonstone grey is a lovely light shade ...

    "Get bigger 19" alloy wheels". Is that bigger than the standard 19" wheels on the iV60 model?

    • @dmorgsev
      @dmorgsev 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I've just got that plain wrong. Bigger 21-inch alloys are on the Founders Edition. Thanks for picking up on that detail.

    • @stephenholland5930

      @@dmorgsev No worries. Are people really going to pay £50000 for a Founders Edition?

    • @dmorgsev
      @dmorgsev 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephenholland5930 I have no idea. It looks really good, but agree it is a lot and with that price you're already in premium SUV territory. But a top spec Skoda SUV is going to be less than a top spec Volvo SUV or similar. We shall see!

    Now instead of 2-3-4 trim levels, typical German pricing structure to earn them more money, and it is dear. Try specifying this Skoda to a comparable level with a Kia e-Niro 4 and you are up to c. £50K. The devil is in the detail. (And there is a lot of detail - 20+ option packs)!

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We felt the "Select battery" first structure was much clearer, even if it does mean lots of other options. Although, we agree the Kia e-Niro 4 is a simple and high-spec option and just a great all-round car. Compared to the new VW ID.3 options, which you can't actually option and instead are tied to certain models!

      Thanks
      I previously have driven Skodas, Audi, VAG etc, and was looking forward to the Skoda EV, but I really think they have missed a trick by not bundling trim options into 3-4 price bands, at it lowers production costs and retail costs. Which is why I now drive the e-Niro.
