Nothing will ever replace the feeling of walking through the gate for the first time with an under geared group of late night degenerates, none of us knowing what awaited us. I spent a lot of time making corpse runs and lying face down on the floor with guildies, learning as we battled along, week after week, slowly making progress and picking off one boss after another. The best of times, would love to do it all over again with that bunch.
This theme brings me back to 2007, the funniest moments with my classmates. We used to play together for Karazhan, heroic dungeons and black temple. Back then, my PC was not so good to run WOW, so whenever I play and go raid at my home, my computer stops at the stairways right before Moroes, where range skills are needed on bunch of mobs, and I had to log in again and again. My friends make fun of me everytime I go Karazhan with them, but it is one of great memories in my life. Now the boys playing BC became fathers, and I, too.
The most fun I've ever had in a game in my entire life. The music, the detail, the feeling of being in this big spooky tower...this raid was a solid 10/10 for me. The music brings back so many good memories of being with my old guild. I hope everyone wherever they are in life are doing well now.
My fondest memory of this raid was my guild fighting Netherspite for the first time... we'd managed to get him down to the barest sliver of health when we fucked up and he proceeded to start wiping the raid. Our Holy Priest, as Netherspite turned toward her, fired a basic attack with her wand at him and downed him. Never heard such cheering over Vent. :)
Agreed. For me anyway, Kara and Naxx (not talking 40man) occupied so many drunk nights with a small group of friends, that's it's gonna be very hard for ANY raid to measure up.
Nothing has even come close to it, eleven years after it's original release. There was something unique about those haunted halls back then, still is. You are not welcome here.
My first raid when i dinged 70 on my first hunter. I was such a noob, didnt know my class well, but the guild was overgeared running people through. The raid felt so mysterious, and as a 13 year old kid it felt daunting to see it all. Even though wotlk came out less than a month after i dinged 70, this raid popped my cherry for raiding. Kara and naxx will always be super special to me. Its where i got good at raiding and fell in love with it. A shame that it was the peak and i didnt know it. Ulduar was pretty awesome too though. i believe this raid itself, the music, the attunment requirements, the natural progression to gear up needed in BC to get to Zul"Aman, Serpentshrine, Eye etc is the pinnacle of World of Warcraft
That soundtrack reminds me how I wasn't doing any of my homework to play WoW, running to my home after class to log on my beloved character. Ah I miss it
Karazhan is actually a very sinister place. The Banquet Hall was hosting nobles from Grand Hamlet who were massacred by Sargeras's controlled Medivh while at the party. Darkness fell over the land and Grand Hamlet became Darkshire. Also there is a mass grave underneath Karazhan with bodies hanging from chains. Also there was a small village outside of Tower of Karazhan that is now in complete ruin and abandoned (hint everyone died).
Man does this bring back some awesome memories! My absolute, without a doubt favorite raid was Kara. I remember the whole guild had worked so hard in their progression to get ready for it. The anticipation of FINALLY raiding Kara is still etched in my memory. What an awesome job Blizzard did of Karazhan - not just the dungeon itself (which was freakin' genius) but the whole progression to get there. Gotta be the most epic thing I'll remember about playing Wow. I'll never forget when the King's Defender dropped - I was main tank in our guild and was in awe of this thing and when it dropped I was blown away! That's some epic gaming right there!

Where boys became men - Karazhan. I remember when TBC came and when Karazhan was introduced - It was the big boy toys - Everybody farmed normal dungeons & heroics to get the keys, it was such a pain to even farm those damn tokens with heroic resets at the time. The Karazhan tier 4 raider was considered God among men at the time. I remember when I got my first Helm from the prince. Everybody inspected me in-front auction house. It looks mean on tauren warrior main tank! I probably made over 50 - 70 karazhan runs. I'll never forget Karazhan, its where I firstly became seriously geared. Best to all
I expect to see a windmill start turning faster and faster and an invisible well elsewhere in the town to drain so I can climb down the ladder into it.
The PLASMARIFLE many of wow players of your time had walk separate paths, some continue playing , some had irl commitments such as families or job, some are like you wondering what others are doing. Anyway the game brings good memories to many people.
I remember first stumbling in on this place when I first started WoW. I had never played an MMORPG before, and the idea of this open-world astounded me. When I got my first mount, I would go everywhere. I traveled to high-level zones I shouldn't have even gone in. Karazhan was one of those places I should have not stepped foot in. It scared the absolute hell out of me, and at the time, I was a lower level and got one-shot by everything there.
I'm watching these videos in order, from the oldest to the newest and this one is the best one yet. Of course, the music alone of Grizzly Hills or Howling Fjord is the best, but all together the atmosphere in this one, created with ambience, music and camera slowly moving through corridors, is superb.
I am doing the same thing you did and I agree with your conclusions. For sheer music Grizzly Hills and Howling Fjord take the cake, but for overall atmosphere and cinematography this one is best.
+Grymligast PS4 I second this notion! Not only it's an enjoyable read in general, Medivh is one of the most important characters in the entirety of Azeroth history. Definitely a recommendation for someone interested in the lore of Warcraft.
The issue with this book is that the events that happen are different depending on the source, the book explains the story in one way, in the movie it is told in another and in the games another different one, that being said is probably one of the best Warcraft books, the rest are really mediocre and only worth if you really want to know the lore
Started playing WoW in TBC, this was my 1st ever raid in an MMO, I still remember how I was picked up in a raid group after their healer had to leave and they were at that golem boss (don't remember his name), but it was hard as fuck since it was my first raid boss ever but enjoyed every moment and got me hooked for years. I will never forget that faithful night.
Right on! thank you so much for this incredible walk through the memories and exitement of my first raid instance! now to fight of the urge to get back in the game....and I apparently am falling fast!
Fave memories of retail. As a hunter I ground out the key and on my first run I lucked out and got the bow and a few other pieces. Everyone else already had them. Such a good raid. Can wait for classic to add this one day. 2007 best wow time. The theatre event was amazing
Love the history, lore, zone and raid content Deadwind Pass and Castle Karazahn so much that I listen to this while I'm doing other stuff. This video did well to capture the isolation and ghostly haunts of Karazahn.
I appreciate this and the Naxxramas upload the most...but I prefer this one a little bit more. Karazhan would definitely be my pad of choice in Azeroth. Such an epic place, so many secrets, so much mystique...perfect.
They don't make them like they used to. I was reminiscing with a friend the other day about how no such thing has come close to my fondness for Shadowfang Keep, Duskwood, and Kharazan since I first experienced them way back in the day. What made me so fond of them? Why were they so interesting to me? I pondered it for awhile, and came up with a pretty satisfactory explanation. While it may be easy to create something spooky, it's quite hard to make something intriguing. If the answer is obvious, then there is no element of interest. These ghosts locked in a dungeon, you can only assume, died in a rather predictable manner. Those waltzing through a ballroom, while a pipe organ roars through the halls and into the night? What tragedy befell this place, and what happened on that night to trap these spirits in a place of such grandeur and perceived merriment? The brutal fall from grace, the subsequent despair and disaster. It has to have an element of interest. Can something spooky be... fun? Can it be warm and inviting in a somewhat eerie way? Can it make you feel as if you've ventured somewhere you were never meant to venture to, or that you're intruding upon something that you were never meant to intrude upon? That you've become some guest at a party you were never supposed to attend? The concept of "warm" darkness is interesting. It can be as simple as a softly-lit lantern on the side of a dark road. The lit fireplace in an old cabin in the woods. Some rainfall in the middle of the night, being viewed from a window inside a warm inn. Though you may meet with the light for awhile, there is always something unseen out in the darkness. You want to know what it is, and to unearth the secrets it's hiding... those secrets that have been trapped and forgotten for decades. Will you?
Amaya Hinageshi it’s also a lot to do with how it felt more like an adventure, things weren’t handed to you. There was no lfr, there was exploration and excitement and you were scared of getting killed. It was awesome

My favorite raid forever. Well, except maybe Ulduar.
