I love that Brendan is just being silyl and goofy, but then is brought to a halt by the ball bit is it drug up old memories. My house is a special kinda map.
The whole daycare area is just awful (in a good way) and even though the journal doesn't mention shrek i am 100% certain that it's based on some nightmare the actual creator had as a kid
When I saw this vid pop up in my feed I assumed it was another MyHouse.WAD deep dive and was kinda starting to get tired of seeing so many of those, but this one actually felt really fresh and managed to put a huge smile on my face. Putting aside how funny and naturally goofy Daniel is, that bit in the concrete maze about the oversaturation of once unique horror icons really spoke to me on a personal level. Things like slenderman, the backrooms, and now even this game feel like they lost that spark they once had and I feel like that's mainly due to how well-known they've become. It's not like we can't still enjoy them but they're no longer that niche hidden gem that felt so special to us when we first found them. Despite all that, I'm really glad I got to watch this and enjoy seeing this game again. Keep being you Danny :)
Oh no I don't dislike funny monsters overall. I just prefer empty ambient horror to be just that, empty ambient horror. Scary monsters are great for me in the right environment.
@@BrendanielGaming agreed, the og backrooms will always be the best iteration to me because of that, but I still enjoy reading about all the different levels and monsters people have came up with, even if it's all a bit over the top
49:30 On the house of leaves thing, I get that feeling completely. When I feel like something is popular enough for my friends to recommend it to me I have the feeling that the "ship has sailed" on that thing and I have forever missed out on it. Rationally speaking, that sounds really stupid, but for me a big part of enjoying the media is having a personal connection to it and that personal connection is basically annihilated if it was introduced to me like a friend of a friend at some houseparty and not by me randomly stumbling upon it during a bored late night bender or smth like that. The way I found to trick myself into actually consuming said media, though, is by imagining it as a task/sidequest that that said friend has given me and that I can improve my standing with that person if I consume and understand said media (not like it, just understand it enough to actually hold a convo on it).
19:15 a childhood nightmare I had relating to a movie was me in school, I think it was like 4th grade, and the playground was a giant mountain, and on the mountain was the giant dragon queen from how to train your dragon, it dropped down and ripped the roof off of the classroom, the weird thing was that it didn't scare me, I watched scarier things at younger ages.
getting disinterested in things that should interest you and are recommended to you is a subset of "pathologic demand avoidance" or "I was gonna do it but now you had to remind me and now I hate it"
If you want the song that plays in the broken car, its the most mysterious song on the internet, no one knows who made the song after it was recorded from a radio station in west germany from 1985, and it has since led me upon a rabbithole of unknown music I cannot escape from.
On the topic of the backrooms being ruined by monsters, i feel like it would work really well if the backrooms had the hat man, and he just watched you like he does irl without doing anything. I mean, irl hat man strikes fear into a ton of people who see him, so it'd work
Seeing hatman increases a hidden madness meter. Hatman dissappears instantly when line of sight is lost. Hatman will break line of sight behind nearby surface and dissapear if you get too close. Madness meter builds scary paranoia music like slenderman. Go too mad and you get a heart attack.
Eh, I like both iterations of the backrooms, with and without entities. I firmly believe that both can coexist. Obviously not in the same continuity it wouldn’t make sense but who says one has to be THE cannon backrooms. If anything giving the backrooms cannon or pushing a certain cannon goes against what the backrooms is, the backrooms should not have cannon. It’s a canvas for people to project their creativity and everyone’s interpretation of the backrooms is mostly unique and that’s what makes it intriguing to me. Aside from shitty content farms, that shit is bad and I don’t like it but who says that has to dictate your enjoyment. If it does they win, they’ve taken over the backrooms and made it what you didn’t want. Keep making stuff, with or without entities, with or without levels, with or without whatever. The fun comes in making what scares you. While I love the empty liminal horror, I absolutely love it but seeing the entities and trying to map out and make sense of something that fundamentally doesn’t make sense, the analytical direction is one I enjoy, it’s why I like SCP so much which similarly is something that should depend on the individual for the most part. But this is just my opinion, trying to push “this is what the backrooms is” I think goes against what it actually is Besides the original post implied something existing in there “If you hear something god help you cus it sure heard you”
I’ve never been so afraid but my boyfriend told me that my feet scare him more under the blanket because they are always cold hehe He likes them though ;)
I remember finding the scp foundation around 2012 or '13, i think right after the first Containment Breach game came out and it was such a cool little obscure thing. it felt like a secret only i was in on. current SCP wiki and fandom are still pretty cool in a different way, but I really miss when compelling internet mysteries could remain that obscure for that long.
In hindsight the fact that anyone thought SCP was real when it's hosted on Wikidot is dumb, but there's something to be said about the feeling of stumbling on something you were clearly not ment to see.
49:10 Yeah I get that, Brendan. I had a similar experience some years back when people would keep on recommending undertale to me. I just refused because of how often people would say I should play it. I only finally got to it like, a year ago once things finally seemed to calm down.
Alright so I say "cran", but it's definitely supposed to be said as it's spelt. That being "Cray On". Still the first one is more smooth and comfortable to say. Also video fuckin slaps.
I think the creepiest part about this map is the liminality of it all. I had consistently felt like I had been to these places before. Also, how the fuck did donkey get up there??

The 5 minute shrek puncher bit was the greatest Brendaniel stream bit
Oh you got me! Oh it’s me Shrek!
I also quite enjoyed the Brakrooms
This is the first time I've even heard of this guy, and the levels of irony mixed with the voice are actively killing me
the irony of him talking about not wanting to read house of leaves while walking through the Navidson Hallway
I am reading it now. Just got done with the mother's letters. There's some good shit in there.

Yeah but get the feeling house of leaves is not popular to read, but popular to talk about. A lot of people who recommend it haven’t even read it
