We didn’t have any midge issues in Snaefellsness. We encountered sooo many gnats between Bruarfoss and Laugarvatn. We wore head nets and it helped a lot!
Great post! Packing for Iceland can be quite the adventure on its own. I found your tips on layering especially helpful, given Iceland's unpredictable weather. Loved the tip about reusable water bottles. Iceland's water is some of the cleanest in the world, and it's so convenient to fill up from any tap or- but be wary of streams. Animals/people may pee in there! Thanks for sharing such practical advice-definitely bookmarking this for my return trip.
Thanks so much for your comment. Layering seems to be the way to go in any cold environment. Just so many options! Not so sure about tapwater safety because you can’t control the plumbing that it goes through and who knows what condition that’s in or what materials they used. But we’ll see what happens.
The Icelandic króna or krona (sometimes called Icelandic crown; ISK) is the currency of Iceland. Iceland is the fifth-smallest country by population, after Vanuatu, Barbados, Tonga and the Seychelles, to have its own currency and monetary policy.
Both Alaska and Iceland offer unique and breathtaking cruise experiences, each with its own set of highlights. Here's a comparison to help you decide which might be a better fit for you. Alaska Cruise Experience: Scenery: Alaska boasts stunning landscapes with glaciers, lush forests, and majestic mountain ranges. The Inside Passage is particularly famous for its scenic beauty - but only when it’s not raining. Wildlife: Alaska is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. You can expect to see whales, seals, bald eagles, and bears, among other species. But you can see a lot of those animals in zoos, aquariums, and Florida too. Bears will kill you, so there’s that. Activities: Alaska is a slice of America. Think Maine with taller mountains. Shore excursions often include activities like glacier trekking, train rides, dog sledding, and kayaking. Towns like Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan offer rich histories and cultural experiences. Not our thing, but 80 year-olds seem to like it. Accessibility: Cruises to Alaska typically depart from major cities like Seattle and Vancouver, making them relatively easy to access for North American travelers. Iceland Cruise Experience: Scenery: Iceland offers dramatic volcanic landscapes, geothermal hot springs, stunning waterfalls, and rugged coastlines. The fjords and remote islands provide a unique backdrop you won’t see in Alaska. Cultural Highlights: Iceland is Europe! Icelandic cruises often include visits to towns like modern Reykjavik and charming Akureyri, where you can experience local culture, history, and cuisine. Activities: Excursions might include hiking, exploring ice caves, bathing in hot springs, visiting geysers and lava fields, and experiencing Northern Lights. Wildlife: While nowhere as diverse as Alaska, Iceland offers opportunities to see puffins, whales, occasional trolls, and unique marine life. Accessibility: Cruises to or from Iceland will require a flight or two for most, adding some additional expenses. Many are one-way cruises that terminate at a different port. Considerations: Climate: Both destinations can be cool and wet, but Iceland's weather is particularly unpredictable. Packing appropriately for rain more than shine is essential. Cruise Season: The best time for Alaska cruises is from May to August to avoid cold September/October rain, while Icelandish cruises are typically best from June through September. Travel Distance: For North American travelers, Alaskan departures may be more convenient and require less travel time compared to reaching Iceland or England. Ultimately, the better experience depends on what you value most-wildlife and expansive forests in Alaska (yawn), or gorgeous waterfalls and geothermal wonders in Iceland. Although both offer unforgettable adventures and spectacular natural beauty, you can probably guess which we liked best.
Wow, what an interesting video! I loved the way you broke down each point with such clarity and enthusiasm. Your passion for travel really shines through making it so engaging and easy to follow. The tips you shared are super helpful, and I can't wait to put them into practice. The visuals of your clothes and - gulp - man wipes - were helpful and really brought your experiences to life. Keep up the fantastic work, and I’m looking forward to more of your amazing travel adventures!
Hmmm they do a LOT of volume. Maybe they're suffering from being too popular. We've decided to skip it, mainly due to volcanic activity. Would hate to fall through a lava hole while we're doing mudpacks.
We were thinking about an Iceland trip and I happen to look at the weather. Here it is, the beginning of June, and part of Iceland just got 18 inches of snow!
You’re like the third person we’ve heard admit this since we put this video out. It seems to be a common thing. Tim just went to Walmart and bought a 10 pack of fruit of the loom 🤣
I take my oldest panties that need to be thrown away on my trips and toss them after wearing. It’s how I force myself to replace underwear before they start looking ratty.😂
OOOOOH yeah... we really need to do a video on that but the backlash would be BRUTAL! Let me sum it up: ALASKA: Rainy, buggy, boring ports. ICELAND: European, fun, more scenic, slighly less rainy
I used to live in Juneau. Believe me, other than 1” long mosquitos in summer, there is not a lot to see in Alaska, and especially where the ships dock. Definitely vote for Iceland.

Absolutely the BEST and most entertaining Iceland packing video we've seen! You guys are amazing! Subscribed for life

We found an easy way to calculate the conversion rate in your head is just divide the krona price by 100 and then shave a few points off
Got it!!! Again, thank you!!!

Well dang, that’s just about the nicest thing anyone has ever said to us ❤️
Also hearing some not nice things about Blue Lagoon from my neighbors who visited in 2023.

Boyfriend asked what kind of Admiral Tim is. Afraid to hear the answer 😂
Hey now!
No lie - I go to target and buy cheap panties and throw them away! Afraid of coming home with bedbugs 😮
