I was a fan of her music since I was little but when I grew up, my musical taste changed so I adored folklore and evermore and i thought that she was going on a more mature and experimental route, so when midnights came out i was so disappointed, even more with TTPD because the name intrigued me a lot but it was nothing as I expected but her fan base praise ates every single stuff she gives them. I had a “friend” who literally stopped talking to me because i said that i didn’t like her anymore 💀. I'm also saying that through personal experience; years ago I was commenting on an Instagram post about Linkin Park with me calling them a Hard Alternative band (I personally prefer that term over Alternative Metal for the most part), but while most of the conversation was going civil, someone decided to barge in to STFU me, insult me for liking Slipknot and call me an "Indian retard" (keep in mind that the post had nothing to do with Slipknot). I did try to de-escalate the situation by being calm and polite, but he doubled-down insulting me anyone who tried to call him out. Goes to show how unhinged and batshit-insane Metal Elitists could get (I did browse through his profile, and that's how I found out about his taste in music). Also, I do like Metal music as well as a couple of bands, though I'm not too heavy into the genre as a lot of others are.
Yeah metal elitist are one of the most abnoxious fanbases out there, gatekeeping you for not being "trve" when the bands they consider to be "trve metal" are the most popular basic ass bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Working in a record shop, the one fandom that I've had the most issues with has been the Swifties. I have nothing against Taylor Swift, I think she's written some great songs and she has a lot of talent. I did think that her most recent album was incredibly boring, but otherwise, I'd say that she's one of the better singer/songwriters of the modern pop scene. However, her fans will hide her albums in the John Mayer section because he's one of the dozen or so celebrities that she's written a concept album about her failed relationship with. They buy the same albums over and over, and not just because there's different covers or bonus tracks, they'll buy the same exact albums over and over...or worse, they'll steal them. Taylor is one of the only artists that we have to put security tags on her CDs because otherwise they will mysteriously disappear. The level of devotion is beyond anything that I've seen for any other artist. They also tend to assume that you're up on all of the backstories and details about who Taylor is pissed off with and why. The K-Pop fans are a close 2nd when it comes to devotion but they tend to be fans of the genre and not just the 1 band based on my experience.
Having to deal with people purposefully moving albums to the wrong shelf location out of spite sounds like an absolute nightmare, especially as someone who actually does shelving for work...
I feel like Chappell Roan’s fandom deserves a mention, even she is overwhelmed by them. Her fans love to trauma dump on her during meet and greets and treat her like a god. But Chappell is a human too I feel bad for her

It really pisses me off that Taylor is pulling up all these stupid tricks with her music sales and promotion when she clearly doesn't need to. The music speaks for itself and tho recently it didn't seem to cought my attention very much, it mostly gets ruined by all this. It pains me cause I have girl friends who are swifties and are really cool people, I've enjoyed most of what I've listened to till this year and respected her as an artist for the longest time. But now I cannot care less about her new releases. I liked some songs here and there up until Lover but she caught my eye when folklore and evermore dropped. My friends knew about it and told me to listen to Midnights when it came out, which I was more fond of than I would've expected to. I was even letting pass the weird rollout and promo stuff she was doing for it with all the extended versions and so on cause she had the music to back it up. I then felt happy for her that she was able to create something as grandiose as The Eras Tour with all the money she earned to make it maybe expensive, but worth people's money with her putting a 3 hour show and going places she had never visited before like South America. I was even on her side when people didn't get the hype and were saying she was overrated just because she was the biggest artist in the world. But as soon as the hype was dying out I started to realise how stupid it all was. The excessive sales tricks to get her most sales on vinyl with the various colour desings, the constant releases of Taylor's versions of her albums, which then consisted in having unreleased tracks that manged to go #1 and made her break more records. Also the whole Eras Tour thing with the movie experience and all that. I even went back and looked down on the Midnights thing with how she made people buy different desings of the same album to form a clock, which the stupidiest thing on earth. Even the tour itself that I was very grateful for as my friends got to see their favourite artist for the 1st time got them going crazy spending all their money and made them go 2 times!, which I still don't get how they got out of all that. But it was really clear with her new LP by releasing 2 albums all at once with like an hour worth of music on each one. Yeah, no thanks. Thank god people started giving no Fs and ranted about the quantity over quality ratio and all the stupid marketing and sales tricks she does when she clearly is tremendously rich and supposedly cares about her fans, cause even I was getting annoyed before at all the awards she got at the Grammys and VMAS with her previous album. And you don't even have to look that far to see the difference. Billie Eilish did the same thing Taylor did with her new album, but the album had not that many songs, a lot of them were longer than usual and not many seemed worthy of being a single. She prioriteze the full album experience by letting it cook for some years, making it very cohesive and production heavy and muscially fresh as well as all the other stuff I've said before. And I'm not picking Billie to say she's a better artist or cause she talked against the vinyl usage and promo and let people know about its many environmental damages, I'm just saying that differentely, Taylor's letting fame get to her head consciously or uncounsciously and needs to calm down

Anthony Fantano and Brutally Honest Rock Album Reviews were one of the few who actually gave it a negative review, and they got severe backlash from Dylan fans.
I did see a video once where a woman talked about how she once use to traverse up to Roger Taylor's (Queen drummer) house just to try and catch a glimpse of him. Having said that, she would've been one of few at that time. Nowadays, I feel like that kind of behaviour would be somewhat encouraged by social media.
I had two swifties on my journalism course at college one of them flipped out at me for listening to John Mayer(not a huge fan of his music just kinda had a phase with Continuum and Where The Light Is) and then forced me to listen to Dear John and complained every time she saw me listening to him like they didn’t break up nearly a decade and a half ago 😅
I have been a Sleep Token fan since I first discovered them way back in 2017 when they were on a small indie British metal label called Basick Records. They had (if I remember it correctly) only about 900 followers on Facebook when I first discovered them. To see where they were at back when they released those two initial EPs compared to now is honestly mind-boggling. I did buy into the Sleep Token stan behaviour back in 2021 a little bit when I made a TH-cam video defending them against a negative review, but other than that, I’ve always been more about the music when it comes to that band.

One fandom that comes to mind for me personally is fans of TOOL. Perhaps they are not as bad as a lot of fandoms that I might see on this list, but TOOL fans are still very defensive of the band and are always getting into arguments over what their songs really mean. Edit: Also, they always seem to think their smarter than people who don't listen to TOOL.
I love Dance Gavin Dance, but their subreddit can be somewhat hell sometimes, often quick to turn their opinions on a vocalist, like before Tilian Pearson bounced, people disliked everything he did, but now that he’s out and Andrew Wells is singing, people are revering Tilian and wanting him back, like, pick a lane. Another one I noticed is not necessarily a fandom for one artist, but it’s the Loudwire readers. My god. Those guys can never be happy. They always put down anything that isn’t brutal death metal and call anything not that “bubblegum pop”. I’ve heard Bad Omens be called that label and it’s ridiculous. Metal elitists can just rot in hell for all I care.

I am a Swiftie. I love all her albums and the stories behind them. That being said, I feel really embarrassed to be associated with other Swifties sometimes. Some of them talk about Taylor Swift to the point where it sort of creeps me out and feels stalkerish. The ones that I know are very kind and chill, but holy shit some of them are crazy. I’ve noticed it’s gotten worse around the time of the Eras tour so maybe after the tour is done the fandom will chill out a bit.
In my opinion, TS has no bad albums. While some are weaker than others, they all have something good in them that can be enjoyed. Red of course, is her best on account of how diverse it is. That being said, despite the fact I'm an unapologetic Swiftie, I'm kind of embarrassed to be associated with them. ARTV should make a video talking about music hatedoms as they can be as bad as the fandoms.

Taylor swift is still a good artist but there is no excuse for dropping EXCESS material like she does it is messy and clearly commercially driven for streams and her fanbase going more insane now than in her best years says something about the toxicity of the fanbase. Can i also just say that due to her similar vocal style/lyrics and aaron dessner/jack Antonoff production in the last 7-8 years all her songs sound so similar (its either a whimsy/restrained voice w light acoustic instrumentation or a darker voice/tone w electronic like production) again and again and again. What about Directioners, they're definitely toxic for sure due to their terrible behaviour and unacceptable manners with disrespecting people's opinions and attacking people for stating even a single flaw of their precious boyband even if some of them like the band. Heck, they harassed Pete Best of The Who for a riff from one of their signature songs being used in a 1D song despite Pete actually liking the band, which proves their hateful comments are just that, hurtful to other people and these toxic fans are also the reason why the band split up and went on hiatus to begin with since they kept demanding for more material and it caused a rift in the band and the way how they treated the members was disgusting, there's a reason why ZAYN doesn't want to be in the band anymore.

Not an artist but a genre. The DnB (Drum & Bass) community can be extremely toxic at times! From the insane amount of gatekeeping (ie this isn’t *real* DnB), the xenophobia (UK artists vs US/other countries artists not making *real* DnB), to just the stupidest of petty feuds (DJ Flight vs Justin Hawkes). I enjoy a lot of genres and interact with a lot of communities in the EDM sphere, and the DnB community is the only one I keep at arms distance just because I don’t want to get tangled up in all of that. Just enjoy the music

While I like some of Tom McDonald's music, the more I listen to it, the more I can see what the problem with him is. He tends to over generalize things in his lyrics, disrespects people he doesn't agree with, raps about the same stuff over and over and claims he's tired of politics dividing people... Yet he contributes to that himself - just listen to his latest song. Oh, and nowadays Tom has been way more focused on his music charting on Billboard. Overall, I'm under the impression that he's everything he used to stand against. Fans continue to praise him either way. Swifties come second in terms of how extreme the fans can be. I liked fan communities better when they weren't all about knowledge contests. I really don't need to decipher all easter eggs or know who the artist's ex was in order to enjoy their music.

To me the Echelon was the most toxic fan group, but not so much because of how they act towards each other, but because of how special they feel. The only thing that makes a given fandom toxic is if they go after or harass other people... What they do among each other is their own business... But the amount of abuse and targets and encouragement or negligence of the artist to go along with any toxic fandom acts against others, is the only problem and what has given fandoms a bad name... I love Sleep Token and there are some sections of their fanbase that are great, but the rampant oversexualization of the members by very vocal part of their fambase pushed me away from the fandom as a whole. There's nothing wrong with being attracted to band members, but publicly posting your fantasies in graphic detail is so invasive and disrespectful.

I'm also saying that through personal experience; years ago I was commenting on an Instagram post about Linkin Park with me calling them a Hard Alternative band (I personally prefer that term over Alternative Metal for the most part), but while most of the conversation was going civil, someone decided to barge in to STFU me, insult me for liking Slipknot and call me an "Indian retard" (keep in mind that the post had nothing to do with Slipknot). I did try to de-escalate the situation by being calm and polite, but he doubled-down insulting me anyone who tried to call him out. Goes to show how unhinged and batshit-insane Metal Elitists could get (I did browse through his profile, and that's how I found out about his taste in music).
Also, I do like Metal music as well as a couple of bands, though I'm not too heavy into the genre as a lot of others are.

Working in a record shop, the one fandom that I've had the most issues with has been the Swifties. I have nothing against Taylor Swift, I think she's written some great songs and she has a lot of talent. I did think that her most recent album was incredibly boring, but otherwise, I'd say that she's one of the better singer/songwriters of the modern pop scene. However, her fans will hide her albums in the John Mayer section because he's one of the dozen or so celebrities that she's written a concept album about her failed relationship with. They buy the same albums over and over, and not just because there's different covers or bonus tracks, they'll buy the same exact albums over and over...or worse, they'll steal them. Taylor is one of the only artists that we have to put security tags on her CDs because otherwise they will mysteriously disappear. The level of devotion is beyond anything that I've seen for any other artist. They also tend to assume that you're up on all of the backstories and details about who Taylor is pissed off with and why. The K-Pop fans are a close 2nd when it comes to devotion but they tend to be fans of the genre and not just the 1 band based on my experience.
Having to deal with people purposefully moving albums to the wrong shelf location out of spite sounds like an absolute nightmare, especially as someone who actually does shelving for work...
I feel like Chappell Roan’s fandom deserves a mention, even she is overwhelmed by them. Her fans love to trauma dump on her during meet and greets and treat her like a god. But Chappell is a human too I feel bad for her
She also mentioned that her fans were expressing stalker-like behavior in interviews (ex: them knowing where her parents live), and she wants to put everything to a halt because of it. She mentioned not feeling like she could be herself after achieving fame this year, and that's awful.

It really pisses me off that Taylor is pulling up all these stupid tricks with her music sales and promotion when she clearly doesn't need to. The music speaks for itself and tho recently it didn't seem to cought my attention very much, it mostly gets ruined by all this. It pains me cause I have girl friends who are swifties and are really cool people, I've enjoyed most of what I've listened to till this year and respected her as an artist for the longest time. But now I cannot care less about her new releases.
I liked some songs here and there up until Lover but she caught my eye when folklore and evermore dropped. My friends knew about it and told me to listen to Midnights when it came out, which I was more fond of than I would've expected to. I was even letting pass the weird rollout and promo stuff she was doing for it with all the extended versions and so on cause she had the music to back it up. I then felt happy for her that she was able to create something as grandiose as The Eras Tour with all the money she earned to make it maybe expensive, but worth people's money with her putting a 3 hour show and going places she had never visited before like South America. I was even on her side when people didn't get the hype and were saying she was overrated just because she was the biggest artist in the world.
But as soon as the hype was dying out I started to realise how stupid it all was. The excessive sales tricks to get her most sales on vinyl with the various colour desings, the constant releases of Taylor's versions of her albums, which then consisted in having unreleased tracks that manged to go #1 and made her break more records. Also the whole Eras Tour thing with the movie experience and all that. I even went back and looked down on the Midnights thing with how she made people buy different desings of the same album to form a clock, which the stupidiest thing on earth. Even the tour itself that I was very grateful for as my friends got to see their favourite artist for the 1st time got them going crazy spending all their money and made them go 2 times!, which I still don't get how they got out of all that.
But it was really clear with her new LP by releasing 2 albums all at once with like an hour worth of music on each one. Yeah, no thanks. Thank god people started giving no Fs and ranted about the quantity over quality ratio and all the stupid marketing and sales tricks she does when she clearly is tremendously rich and supposedly cares about her fans, cause even I was getting annoyed before at all the awards she got at the Grammys and VMAS with her previous album.
And you don't even have to look that far to see the difference. Billie Eilish did the same thing Taylor did with her new album, but the album had not that many songs, a lot of them were longer than usual and not many seemed worthy of being a single. She prioriteze the full album experience by letting it cook for some years, making it very cohesive and production heavy and muscially fresh as well as all the other stuff I've said before. And I'm not picking Billie to say she's a better artist or cause she talked against the vinyl usage and promo and let people know about its many environmental damages, I'm just saying that differentely, Taylor's letting fame get to her head consciously or uncounsciously and needs to calm down

I have been a Sleep Token fan since I first discovered them way back in 2017 when they were on a small indie British metal label called Basick Records. They had (if I remember it correctly) only about 900 followers on Facebook when I first discovered them. To see where they were at back when they released those two initial EPs compared to now is honestly mind-boggling. I did buy into the Sleep Token stan behaviour back in 2021 a little bit when I made a TH-cam video defending them against a negative review, but other than that, I’ve always been more about the music when it comes to that band.
Good selection, please do a part 2, Chris Brown should be in one of these videos I know far too many die hard fans of his and it's beyond any understanding to me😂 I think some of the biggest bands in Metal have very toxic fanbases aswell, like Megadeth (mostly alex jones type maga conspirators) Iron Maiden, (who's fans are nuts when it comes to collecting memorabilia and praising maiden like gods for making the same song in either e- or a-minor over and over and over...) and basically every glorified legacy act that still has die hard fans😂

One fandom that comes to mind for me personally is fans of TOOL. Perhaps they are not as bad as a lot of fandoms that I might see on this list, but TOOL fans are still very defensive of the band and are always getting into arguments over what their songs really mean.

Another one I noticed is not necessarily a fandom for one artist, but it’s the Loudwire readers. My god. Those guys can never be happy. They always put down anything that isn’t brutal death metal and call anything not that “bubblegum pop”. I’ve heard Bad Omens be called that label and it’s ridiculous. I am a Swiftie. I love all her albums and the stories behind them. That being said, I feel really embarrassed to be associated with other Swifties sometimes. Some of them talk about Taylor Swift to the point where it sort of creeps me out and feels stalkerish. The ones that I know are very kind and chill, but holy shit some of them are crazy. I’ve noticed it’s gotten worse around the time of the Eras tour so maybe after the tour is done the fandom will chill out a bit.
In my opinion, TS has no bad albums. While some are weaker than others, they all have something good in them that can be enjoyed. Red of course, is her best on account of how diverse it is.

Not an artist but a genre. The DnB (Drum & Bass) community can be extremely toxic at times! From the insane amount of gatekeeping (ie this isn’t *real* DnB), the xenophobia (UK artists vs US/other countries artists not making *real* DnB), to just the stupidest of petty feuds (DJ Flight vs Justin Hawkes).
I enjoy a lot of genres and interact with a lot of communities in the EDM sphere, and the DnB community is the only one I keep at arms distance just because I don’t want to get tangled up in all of that. Just enjoy the music

I was gonna buy a Midnights blue album cuz I liked the color and thought to myself just find some random blue record instead. While I like some of Tom McDonald's music, the more I listen to it, the more I can see what the problem with him is. He tends to over generalize things in his lyrics, disrespects people he doesn't agree with, raps about the same stuff over and over and claims he's tired of politics dividing people... Yet he contributes to that himself - just listen to his latest song. Oh, and nowadays Tom has been way more focused on his music charting on Billboard. Overall, I'm under the impression that he's everything he used to stand against. Fans continue to praise him either way. Swifties come second in terms of how extreme the fans can be. I liked fan communities better when they weren't all about knowledge contests. I really don't need to decipher all easter eggs or know who the artist's ex was in order to enjoy their music.

I find that Beatles fans can be quite insufferable too. They can't accept that people in 2024 might not like music from 60 years ago and they can't even take a joke at the Beatles' expense. And I'm saying this as a massive Beatles fan.

You're not going to listen to everything and you never will. Let's admit it. But the music that we all know and do know, we'll be listening to forever. Not just pop, but rock has some bands/artists with huge followings that have a toxic fan base problem. In fact ever genre has those crazy fans.

To me the Echelon was the most toxic fan group, but not so much because of how they act towards each other, but because of how special they feel. They're a cult and it still sends shivers down my spine thinking I was a part of that. I have only bad memories of that time. But for actual toxicity in fandoms: I've heard some bad stuff about the Twenty One Pilots fanbase. xD You should definitely do a part 2.

The only thing that makes a given fandom toxic is if they go after or harass other people... What they do among each other is their own business... But the amount of abuse and targets and encouragement or negligence of the artist to go along with any toxic fandom acts against others, is the only problem and what has given fandoms a bad name...
