    tip use narrow strips of masking tape to mark placement edges before final stick on? I did not tape it on at all I simply cleaned the tank peeled the backing off the pad and eyeballed it smoothing it one direction....it is not exactly perfect but you really have to stare at it to notice so its good it is on totally secure a month later ...but marker strips would have made it much easier to get perfect than simply eyeballing

    I bought one of these for the main purpose of keeping my keys from scratching the tank while filling up...because the key HAS to stay in the cap while it is open meaning the other keys are dangling on the paint! I think it is so stupid the key has to stay in the cap...WHY? Anyway maybe it wont look right but I have to put the padded sticker up against the cap rather than starting at the seat not that it mattered much on Tracer 9gt because it almost goes the distance anyway ...luckily it came with extra loose chevron which filled in the final bare tank before the seat

      If I had it to do over again (too cheap to throw away what I already paid for) I would have instead put clear protector on the tank....which I actually DID look for but did not see originally on Amazon or Ebay ....then after I installed the pad I ended up on AliExpress where I suddenly saw all kinds of clear fuel tank protectors ....dirt cheap too

    Just spray the surface with soap water. Also spray the sticker. Then place it on the surface. You could move it to the position you want to easily. Then use a plastic spreader to remove the air and water so that it sticks to the surface

      I have tried using soap water...it spoiled the glue makes it peel off after a period of time...

      @omegalette 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I did the exactly same thing and tankpad keeps folding at the corners. Used 2 tankpads, washed and cleaned the tank before applying, used alcohol as degreaser and nothing. Should I heat the tankpad with a hairdryer before sticking to the tank? Thank you

    • @VroomBroomZoom
      @VroomBroomZoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That happened to me when the bike had a slight angle in the surface, like on my Versys-x. Definitely try the hairdryer/ heat gun, maybe try to weight down or use extra tape to hold it in place for a little while. 👍

      Alcohol is not a good degreaser. You might try a silicone and wax remover. You can use Purple Power which is a very strong degreaser, but it can only be used on painted surfaces, and steel, not on soft aluminum or engine block, unless you rinse it off after 20 seconds. Purple Power is one of the strongest degreasers out there, but don't leave it to soak, rinse it off less than a minute after applying it. NAPA auto parts in the paint section, should have "silicone/wax remover" for painting cars, and preparing the paint, so paint will stick.

      sounds like you are stretching the tank pad .. reason for the folding up of the corners i think

    would you buy tank pads from ebay or just stick with ones from proper stores (like Peter Stevens or Kawasaki)?

    • @VroomBroomZoom
      @VroomBroomZoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have only ever used eBay. They’re a touch smaller, but they do the job at a fraction of the price. 😊

    • @dougiequick1
      @dougiequick1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL "Ebay" is NOT a manufacturer or a store it is simply a site a LOT of stores sell on....same identical quality is typically available on ebay and amazon that is in brick mortor stores....but lots of crap also so one does have to do one's himework....then again there is no gurarantee a brick and mortar store wont sell you crap for that matter...sticking to well known brands can help but I love like on amazon items with thousands of reviews that have 5 stars or very nearly perfect ratings...which means nothing if it is just 20 reviews but thousands is very good indication you have accurate review rating

    I just use 10 layers of electrical tape strips alone on the tank. Less hassle and cheaper. Joking. Duct tape works better. Larger strips.
