Making Myself $1000 Bouquet 💐💐💐 (or at least as big as I can)

  • Join Serina as she explores the garden for all the best flowers to make the biggest bouquet that is physically possible. The goal is $1000 - are my hands strong enough? I'm picking all the best stuff that I usually hoard for myself, such as sea holly, echinops, bells of ireland, phlox, scabiosa, yarrow, ammobium, and more! Which is your favorite colour palate of the 2 final bouquets?

It might be good to have big show pieces at the market stand that consist of very open flowers. They would be intended to draw people in rather than be for sale

Agreed! I WANT a bouquet that is made up of unusual flowers and fillers like seaholly and bells of Ireland :)

That blue bouquet is stunning! You should take pictures of your “special” bouquets.. use them as artwork/marketing.. show off your amazing talent.. and gorgeous flowers!

Those bigger bouquets are amazing. I'd buy them. It drives me crazy when you go to the florist and they're all full of green filler. Your bouquets aren't like that which makes them amazing and, for me, that would make the larger bouquet very hard to resist. Maybe a few $50 bouquets could help move things at the market or encourage a few special orders?

This was so fun! Turned out absolutely stunning! Serina's bouquet making has grown by leaps and bounds. From a flower hater to master bouquet maker! 🎉 Tip from Georgie at Common Flower Farm...make three $30 dollar bouquets, so they are easier to hold, then tie them together. Blessings, -Kate

I have very small hands. When I work with stems like glads or Lillies, my hands give out so easily. I applaud your hand strength. The blue and white was by far my favorite. It was light and elegant and those bells of Ireland really brought the whole piece together. ❤️

    • @JoColours
      @JoColours ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have small hands too: make a few smaller bouquets and put those together to form one big one! You have to practise a bit to get the colours/shapes distributed well, but it really works.

    The flowers are beautiful!
At the flower shop i work at, we have our stem chopper anchored to a block of wood and clamped to the edge of a work bench. Yours was making me nervous for your fingers!😅

That blue and white bouquet is absolutely divine!
Have you considered reaching out to a photographer to do a styled shoot one of these days?
I started getting into growing flowers just so that I could have a steady supply of blooms and wouldn't have to buy them just for photoshoots and styled work and I'm always looking for flower farms to work with. I'm not in your area, but I'm curious if teaming up with a photographer to do a couple of shoots could pad your marketing images on the farmer/florist side of things?
You both have so much on your plate that I can see how that could be too much of a demand on your time/bandwidth to dedicate for images you may or may not use, so I get how that may not be in the cards right now as well. Just as a photographer who does styled shoots I drooled over your bouquets and all the dreamy possibilities for styled marketing work.

Way to live up the to the challenge....you knocked it out of the ballpark! Just spectacular!
Marketing idea......host a summer long contest. Every person who purchases from the stand can fill out an entry to the draw. The draw ticket should have name, phone number and email address. At the end of the summer draw for a "$1000 bouquet." This way, you would be able to create an email address list and be able to use it to send out emails as you want throughout the year and....someone wins a "$1000 bouquet."
(I loved running into you in Kelowna on Canada Day as we observed the Knox Hill fire together. It was your voice I recognized first. Sorry I didn't get to met Ian but someone had to sell $1200 at the Farmer's Market that day, the boss has high expectations!)

I am so jealous of you. A life with flowers. Before Co vid I went to a florist and got their trash flowers and play. You did it for you. Happy you. You, and your hubby are really a good match. Kitties, too!! I had some hard times and could not afford flowers that I normally do. Instead , I got flower seeds from a the Lakota children that I donate to. They sent me seeds to plant. Some did not do too well. It took some time; but I am blooming. It actually made my year extra special waiting for the blooms I planted by seed. Gardening is not easy work. You can have failures and success. Also, I call them volunteers that bloom on their own. you are awesome. Jackie

The plain white bouquets might not be selling at the market because you’re hoarding all the blue!😂🤣
After reading all these comments of how many people are loving the blue & white with the bells of Ireland, I think it would be so fun to make a $40 or $20 much smaller version of this same colour combo for the market and just see how well it does. I bet it sells SO much better than the all white bouquets.
Definitely include three Bells, three Fama Deep Blue Scabiosa and one stem of Sea Holly…those really stand out in the white flowers. And purple Veronica for a spike flower. Oooh! If you had a little Bupleurum as a filler I think that colour would go really nicely with the Bells.
    You know you want to!

Love the first bouquet, super classy. The second one is a bit too much, all those huge flowers next to each other make it look tirying. So more of the first please :))

Do you have a sign at the market that you do special bouquets for order? Maybe that's a thing you need, and than you can do your XXL bouquets! 😊

It might be Eryngium Big Blue or Eryngium Bourgatii.
Bourgatii also have very blue stems too.x

I have often wondered - during these times of creation, aren't they getting parched? Don't they need to go into water ASAP? But my goodness they are stunning!!

I hope you are doing ok. Farming is hard. Building a business is hard. Have several irons in the fire. Explore other ideas.
    Hang in there.

That brown that you said looks like bull rushes, looks like narrow leaf plantain, seed head, they are pretty, and good medicine

That blue bouquet is so huge and I'm sure if I was looking at it up close I can easily pick out all the pretty flowers... but it looks like too much green filler for me. I very much prefer the second one, where it looks like the fluff is only on the outside edge of all the flowers 🥰

Not at all a practical idea, but a giant statement bouquet at the farmers market that people can take Instagram photos with would be amazing. Unfortunately at the roadside stand, I think people might steal flowers from there if it's not marked for sale.

Last one, when you get overwhelmed with flowers, hold a pick your own flowers event and donate the extra bouquets to nursing homes
