Hi I have a 1998 I just acquired very clean motor. Its a very clean motor. Servicing it i ran into a problem as I can not get the plastic prop off. Is there a trick to this? No mention in the manual. Thanks
@@ThePredsmaniac Get a good penetrating oil, spray, wait half a day, spray again and remove the next day. Also buy stainless steel cuter pin to replace.
@@ThePredsmaniac If you cannot pull it of, find a nail of similar diameter, cut the end to make it flat, and push on the pin. Maybe us a hammer gently to push it out. Let me know of the outcome, good luck!

Good question, when you fill the gear oil of the foot of any outboard, you have to push the oil up to eliminate air. The gear case have to be free of air bubbles. For my small honda I have a squeez bottle but for my mercury I have a pumping device attached to oil bottle to compress oil from bottom to up. Once oil leaks out, you close the top hole and then quickly the bottom drain hole.

Allways fill with engine vertical. If not, you will over fill and blow the seals.
Engine oil yes but not the gear oil. The gear has to be 100% full.

I'm not familiar with the 1998 model. Mine, the prop holds with a sheer pin, you just remove it and pull the prop off.
@@photographiedynamic thanks it is the same prop design...you confirmed my suspicion that the pin is rusted and swollen,not allowing it to slide off.

fill up from bottom hole and make sure some come out before top hole. Then close top hole followed by the bottom hole.

This is a four stroke engine, you use pure regular car gasoline.
Honda engine needs 10 -30 motor oil. but for bottom has 80 -90 oil.
I just bought mine's. Does yours fill with engine and gear oil when it arrives?
Use proper size screwdriver!!!
