I also want to say that the Fender Mustang GTX100 amp never gets the love it deserves. I love mine. I have been playing for over 40 years and this is one of the best amps I've ever played on. And I've played them all.
I like an unboxing with a quick play out of the box, showing the action height as they ship it. Then, a follow up video with a deeper dive and what was needed to dial it in for your preferences. Finally, with all your guitars there, a shoot out comparing specs with like models. 3 video for 1 guitar. That's mileage, baby!
I think that by now everyone should know that the quality that's going into budget guitars these days...look, it's the best it ever was. I'm not opposed to the one take video format, but I don't think its necessary. Either way brother, you do you. ❤
Great video! I really don't understand the whole reliced guitar craz. Given some time all mine end up reliced to some degree. Dings & scratches just happen.
Great review/demo Max!! I love my Firefly guitars. I have purchased several from your recommendation and always impressed with the quality! Don’t listen to the negative people. Keep rockin and have an amazing day!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
The best part about relics - the wife thinks they are old pawn shop cheapo's... shh!! I like this format from time time... it would be cool to see you turn that into a custom painted model (maybe EVH inspired).
Dig the videos man. As much as I like this one too, I wouldn't worry about folks fussing on whether you edited or not or did any setup. People are going to complain no matter what. I just dig the content and appreciate that you're reviewing product like this. All guitars need a certain amount of adjustments out of the box, but compared to what was available in this range back in the 90s when I was a kid starting out this stuff is crazy good.
Bought my son one of the early semi hollow body guitars you reviewed from firefly. Been watching ever since. Just recently got the unofficial dave grhol firefly 338 semi hollow in metallic blue for myself. It is gorgeous. You should check it out and compare it to the epiphone or Gibson signature ones everyone is reviewing right now.
I like the absolute, undistilled honesty of this type of review; from unboxing to final opinion in under thirty minutes with zero edits feels a lot more of a genuine an approach to take. I must admit, though, I was dreading you using your old unboxing sword, and really glad that you didn't!
Great job Max! Nice and honest. I'm pretty sure part of the tuning stability after playing with the whammy bar is the fact it has a bone nut. Bone is a much harder substance than plastic. It allows the strings to slide back and forth ever so slightly and return back to pitch whereas the plastic makes the string get hung up. It kind of grabs it. 🤘
I think you found a way to break new ground (somehow!!!) in the guitar review community with this continuous take of a sub $200 model, and that's impressive. Awesome video.
Max, I found your content years ago and ALWAYS found your reviews to be AUTHENTIC! My $ 0:02 cents! Thanks, for all you do on your channel! BTW: As an example, Hiram Bullock (of Paul Shaffer/SNL fame) favored a heavily worn Strat! Thank you, for showing us fans, your back-of- the -scenes review process! And Yes, give us more "one-take" reviews from time to time! Thank you!
Yea Max, I’m impressed as well on how good it stayed in tune with the whammy drops. Better than a Fender, right? It does what it’s suppose to do- sound like a twangy Strat! lol - If you wanna do your vids with edits in them, do it brotha! Your not gonna please All of the people All of the time anyway, so joke em if they can’t take a f~ck! Great vid brotha, peace!
Thank you max I worked in a music store for years keep the reviews coming I have a vintage brand jr and a musi tele and am very happy with them i just wish they would have made guitars like this 35 years ago when I was starting out affordable and decent quality
Hey, Max! Good candid! My compliments. You have the dubious distinction of being No. 1 for all time in my book. I was a reptile fan for a good while. When I first got on TH-cam to find guitar-related content, Guitar MAX was the first door I opened. I bought my first guitars (Groove and Latitude Equator) and effects (Sonicare Matribox 1 and BOSS IR-200) by your excellent recommendations. Thank you, by the way. I have no regrets and you gotta admit, that BOSS IR-200 is an absolute no-quarter, tank of a Holy Grail. I swear to God, I ‘m going to put some money where my mouth is. You’ll see.
Hey Max, I like the one take format! It works well for you... I have this same exact Firefly guitar and I watched carefully as you moved the guitar around and the patterns on the body are identical to the one I have. That makes me think that they're using some kind of a pattern or some stick-ons to make this relic. I bought mine to do exactly as you said... I'm going to sand it down and make mine into a blue shabby chic style that's not so extremely road scarred... Otherwise the guitar is a gem, and it plays really nice! Thanks for bringing this one!
Dude I FUCKING LOVE MY FIREFLY it's one of my favorite axes hey max you stayed wicked kind and descriptive I can't always watch the video but I can hear it thr descriptive nature of your words are fucking awesome thanks
This is great. I like the one take - no edit format. I agree the extreme relic-ing is silly. I don't think it could EVER naturally get that beat up - even if it was played every day for 60 years. 🤣
Some strange folks out there Max , you’ve always come across as a genuine person, always enjoy your content, always have some interesting and positive topics, one of my favourite episodes was when you turned lumber Jack and went all out hacking up a few Guitars, which I would still be interested in if you haven’t tossed them out 😂😂 that was will as hell … Cool as Dude ✌️😎👍🇳🇿
It was good to see a different approach as a one off, but i really enjoy the usual format. In terms of the guitar, i was really impressed by the tuning stability when using the trem and the sound is pretty good too for a budget model. Overall, thumbs up all round. 👍
Great video. To be honest, watching you tune the guitar was where I said, " Please edit your videos!" I ordered that exact same guitar, used from ebay, and got it on Thursday. $175, and free shipping. I loved the guitar, and it is in as new condition. It's a full thickness mahogany body, roasted maple neck with a dual radius fretboard: 9.5" to 14". The bridge plate is 2.8 mm thick, the saddles are sturdy with a full aluminum bridge block. The guitar plays awesome. One of the most interesting things I found out about this guitar, is that when I got it, I looked on Guitars Garden, and the relic pattern is about 95%, exactly the same as on mine, and on the one being reviewed. I actually would have been happier if they had left the 3 tone sunburst alone, or if it had less relic. Might have it painted. I ordered another one yesterday, this time direct from Guitars Garden. One to keep and one to sell. Thanks for the video, Max, and do the videos anyway you like, we will still watch. Anyone who orders or plays one of these guitars will immediately know everything you said was true, if they didn't already believe you.
I wish I had the luck you and some of the other guys have with Fireflys. The 3 Firefly guitars that I got had a few issues ea. I am not one for relic guitars at all. I try to keep my stuff pristine and even when I buy preowned I try and get mint condition or close to it. I agree it sounded good and truthfully I prefer seeing it right out of the box plugged in and played live. Sometimes with reviews online I think a lot of reviewers tweak them before they show them to us. One of the reasons I bought the 3 Fireflys was because of TH-cam vids. I bought two brand new and one used. The used one I knew had issues and like the others it was wiring problems, bad grounds, scratchy pots and finish flaws. I can over look minor finish flaws but the wiring stuff was tuff to track down on two. At least with a relic any finish flaw will blend in.
Good experiment. I prefer your standard format where you edit out the boring stuff and I agree with you. I don’t really like heavy relic guitars. Great job as usual thank you very much.
I really enjoyed the video. Watched to the very end. Great review. Entertaining guitar playing. I like the one take recording. Just a very enjoyable video. Thank you.
Hi Max and greetings from Finland! This was very nice video to see and i hope if you would keep going to do these on future :) These kinda videos are important to see how the equipment does sound when you open the box after mail man has drop it :D This is important on low price stuff but i think it would be very cool and usable on higher and mid range guitars too :) Thank you a lot! :)
Max, If I want an honest, concise, & accurate review of a product YOU are the man I come to because I know I can trust YOUR judgment & opinion on that product & there's a lot of guys out there doing this, but if you listen close enough, you know which ones words you can trust & who you can't. You also give an extensive overview of the clean tones a guitar can make as well as the one trick ponies that can only 'chug' ! I love metal too but I think 3 dimensionally & NOT '1' like some that are only capable of 'chugging'!! Your clean comprehensive, polished videos are the ones I appreciate .. you can edit & get more important info in that way!! As I heard once long ago, "Opinions are like a--holes .. Everybody's got one!! It's just 'some' are full of sh-t!!!" If you want to appease those w/"filled opinions" throw in a 'one take' from time to time! YOU'LL still be the man 'I' trust when it comes to what I buy for my guitars!! That's why I'm playing a Fender GTX1OO Amp!! Best buy I've ever made & tones too!! You're doing a GREAT job keep it up!! Your bud - Greg Leonard ("POISONS" prey for songs! 'Fallen Angel') Later Bro!
Dude, you probably put it into the box after setting it up, i need to see the delivery driver drop off the guitar before i believe you 😂. Keep rocking and ignore the haters. Enjoyed this a lot, but im not a big "relic" person, but that sound is great and enjoy watching you play.
I like the format. It's very authentic, and since I too review guitars, i know how much time goes into getting a video just right. In fact, I may use your idea. Great job, Max! Even though I'm a FF fan, I think this model is really overdone on the "relics" side of things. So I'm not a fan of this guitar.
String tension probably feels a bit tight, because they're most likey made from more inferior materials than your used to. Usually with any "trem" guitars, I don't even attempt to dial in the set up with the factory strings. Inspect it and make sure its all there and functioning normally. Then if your gonna keep it, immediately put on the strings of your choice. Now that all the goofs feel confident your not cheating them somehow into believing the guitar can be good outta the box. You can actually move forward with a restring and proper setup. Relics aren't my cup of tea. But that guitar is so reasonably priced its hard to fault it. I see someone dropped a comment, reminding me today is the anniversary of the day SRV passed in a helicopter crash at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, WI. I'm a Wisconsin native and was just talking about that dreadfull day last week. I was living in Waukesha Co. at the time, which is adjacent to Jefferson. For much of the night, we didn't know who was all in that crash, and I sat and jammed SRV all night long on the radio staion from my boom box. Because the power was out from the storm. They played nonstop SRV almost totally commercial free, for 24hrs straight! Boy did I get the tear ducts a workout that night! My girl was bent! I would not, turn that shit down!
Very cool of you to do this I was considering purchasing this one myself you gave me what I needed to get Going on it and peace o mind ...thank you GREAT JOB MAN
Another great vid my friend, your a braver man than I, I've been playing for decades n I can't remember the last time I bought a guitar that played out of the box or pawn or GC. Point being. Nobody plays the same guitar exactly the same way. Personalizing your guitar with its proper set up is half the fun. I like my strings a lil heavy and the action a bit high. Most people can't even play my guitars with out it sounding out of tune. You can shred, that I have no question. And I think this video speaks to the fact that MOST guitars don't sound great rite from the box. Cheers
I have started watching you again, my old friend. I have started playing guitar after 10 years. I hope you have been well! I started watching your videos a long time ago. I don't remember, but I remember that once you injured your arm, and I used to watch you during that time. I hope you have been well!
Yeah Max This Firefly guitar puts me in mind of John Mayer's pre PRS; old black Fender Strat, It was road warn to the point of looking like this Firefly on it's face side.
TBH, that's really impressive. I was holding my breath for the trem bar action... Wow, I was also impressed. Thanks for the vid Max, it's amazing what you can get for so little money these days. Oh, the other thing you can do with these guitars, other than actually being decent players, is hanging them on the wall as art. I'm just finding it hard to believe that some of these budget guitars with OK pickups... Throw a vega-trem on it and you have a really fun axe.
Honestly, I thought the format was fine if you’re trying to show the haters that you’re legitimately doing what you’re doing. And maybe it was nice to take a break from editing and putting the content together in a polished and packaged fashion. Really doesn’t matter I’m a fan of your work. I bought a lot because I’ve washed what you’ve done and I’m gonna continue to watch. Thanks for keeping it real Max!

Whether you do one take videos or editied videos they will be great because you are great at what you do. That being said if you don't prefer doing these one take type videos then I will still enjoy your content either way! I love firefly guitars. That sounds like a real strat. Id argue it is. Strats with high gain is a win for me. Grungy angsty sound I love. You rock Maxx!
I never had a problem with the old format, but it is cool to see full on unboxing. But do what you like best Max. Cool guitar either way definitely the heavy relic is a lil too much for how it's done. Good little mod platform though for a refinish. Stainless Steel frets a major selling point for it!
My WestCreek Revenge guitar made my fingers black for a week but the strings stayed in tune after a couple hours of playing so your firefly stays in tune pretty well for just out of the box thanx for the great video Scott
I've been watching you for years Max and I have always trusted your content and still do. For those that ask what do you do to get the guitars sounding that good, try years and years of practice and dedication to the art and skill of playing a guitar !! I really like this style of video, warts and all. A couple of these occasionally would be great. That is a very good guitar for the money and I think I will be getting both at some point. There is a brand called Vintage that do relic guitars too. Have you ever tried out the Vintage brand ?Would you try them on your video please ? Thank you for another great video.
Hey are you a ham radio guy or a short wave listener? I noticed the Halicrafters sitting behind you, and what also looks like a baofeng. If so... 73 I like this new format, but I suggest you do what makes you happy. They're all great videos either way. As for the guitar, I thought it sounded fine, and I agree on the heavy relic. I like a much lighter relic, like what Dick Dale's golden Strat looked like before he passed away. It didn't look beat to hell, it looked used but well cared for.

I also want to say that the Fender Mustang GTX100 amp never gets the love it deserves. I love mine. I have been playing for over 40 years and this is one of the best amps I've ever played on. And I've played them all.
I agree a lot of people take it for granted. It's never been easier to get great sounds.
Yes long videos. Yes please
that’s what she said
I think that by now everyone should know that the quality that's going into budget guitars these days...look, it's the best it ever was. I'm not opposed to the one take video format, but I don't think its necessary. Either way brother, you do you. ❤
Well said! and thanks!
Great video! I really don't understand the whole reliced guitar craz. Given some time all mine end up reliced to some degree. Dings & scratches just happen.
I bought a firefly spalted maple LP and put Dylan's "DAF" set in it.. best guitar I have owned! Beats Gibson!
Thank you for doing a video in this format. This is how I used to enjoy TH-cam. This is the most honest way to do a review. Keep up the great job!
I like the no edit format, keep it going 👍👍
Awesome, thank you!
I like the one take thing for guitar reviews and this was a real nice honest review.
I don’t mind the one take but the edited videos you do are well done. I would choose the edited version. Keep up the good work! Rock on Max!
Ok thanks!
I think you found a way to break new ground (somehow!!!) in the guitar review community with this continuous take of a sub $200 model, and that's impressive. Awesome video.
Just keep doing great videos and reviews on affordable guitars! Always love your content, and love Firefly guitar's ❤️
Just got mine a couple days ago. I love it for playing dire straits. Great video.
Thank you!
Excellent review. The guitar looks to be worth every Cent, too. Thanks, Max!🎸🎸😎😎🤩🤩☺☺
You’ll see.
Max I LOVE this format! Do more of these! Love the channel bro 😎🤘
It's a real world guitar review in real time! Hendrix looking over your shoulder was a nice touch too. I love it! 😻
As an SRV fan, I like that guitar. Thank you for reviewing it. Might have to add one to my collection.
I adore how ypu show off these cheaper guitars..for vuys like me who jst want the feeling of somthing different and not break the bank
I like the one take format, esp if it is just easier for you. I hate editing my mtb videos.
A bit like the Rory Gallagher strat, good review👍🏻
Dude I FUCKING LOVE MY FIREFLY it's one of my favorite axes hey max you stayed wicked kind and descriptive I can't always watch the video but I can hear it thr descriptive nature of your words are fucking awesome thanks
Excellent. Thank you!
@@GuitarMAXMusic nah dude ....thank u...years worth
Been watching your reviews for a while. Got to say I really like this format! Great job, Max!
This is a very creative format for a review video! I know you that wasn't your intent but I really enjoyed it. Breath of fresh air. Thumbs way up!
This is great. I like the one take - no edit format. I agree the extreme relic-ing is silly. I don't think it could EVER naturally get that beat up - even if it was played every day for 60 years. 🤣
Some strange folks out there Max , you’ve always come across as a genuine person, always enjoy your content, always have some interesting and positive topics, one of my favourite episodes was when you turned lumber Jack and went all out hacking up a few Guitars, which I would still be interested in if you haven’t tossed them out 😂😂 that was will as hell …
Cool as Dude
✌️😎👍🇳🇿
It was good to see a different approach as a one off, but i really enjoy the usual format. In terms of the guitar, i was really impressed by the tuning stability when using the trem and the sound is pretty good too for a budget model. Overall, thumbs up all round. 👍
Great video.
To be honest, watching you tune the guitar was where I said, " Please edit your videos!"
I ordered that exact same guitar, used from ebay, and got it on Thursday.
I like the no edit concept
excellent video .... no frills... one take .... black fingers.... love it !
You're doing good, Max. Not your fault if people are purposely looking to be trolls. Loving these videos. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks, will do!
I honestly enjoyed this video, I like the unpolished unedited versions, but I also like the polished version as well.
I picked up the tele relic not long ago. very impressed with it. The pups are noisey, but I can't complain for the price.
Very cool of you to do this I was considering purchasing this one myself you gave me what I needed to get
Going on it and peace o mind ...thank you
GREAT JOB MAN
Love the one-take.
I prefer the polished thought out crafty content that you edit into. Your a genious with that Mr. Max, Mr. Pilot.❤
Yeah Max
This Firefly guitar puts me in mind of John Mayer's pre PRS; old black Fender Strat,
It was road warn to the point of looking like this Firefly on it's face side.
Max, I’ve been subscribed since about 2019. I’ve found your content to be above board and honest. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Never mind the trolls.
Thank you!
Your videos are always informative. If these are easier, I'm good with that. Just do what you do.
Well, this video; gave me the "real vibe" feel to it. But I also love watching all the other videos.
I’ve never understood why people will by a new guitar intentionally made to look old and worn but will nitpick signs of wear when buying a used or demo guitar. 😂
Whether you do one take videos or editied videos they will be great because you are great at what you do. That being said if you don't prefer doing these one take type videos then I will still enjoy your content either way! I also agree that this guitar seems to be taking the relic thing a bit too far for my taste but I guess they were going for the SRV vibe like you stated, oh well! lol Keep up thegreat work dude! :-)
This was great Max. I really enjoyed this type of review. Max what tunner do you use on your phone? 🎸🤘🏻
Do what you feel is best. You're the man max!
Plot twist: He was sent an unreliced guitar that got heavily damaged in transit.
Did you write that all by yourself
@UncleDickeysRandomLife there's gotta be an unnecessarily hostile person in every room, huh? I bet you feel really proud of yourself for being a lousy person for no reason. I'm sorry your parents and teachers failed to provide you an education.
You really are the greatest as far as your video content and really appreciate your honesty
Impressive trem performance with new unstretched strings right out of the box. Sounds like the guitar was intonated well at the factory.
Cool format. Unedited version is better. Gets all the bloopers and stuff is cool.
If so... 73
I like this new format, but I suggest you do what makes you happy. They're all great videos either way. As for the guitar, I thought it sounded fine, and I agree on the heavy relic. I like a much lighter relic, like what Dick Dale's golden Strat looked like before he passed away. It didn't look beat to hell, it looked used but well cared for.
I personally dig the long form one-take reviews. I’m sure it would be nice for some to have the option for the edited/condensed version
I like this video format,
But I had no problem with the format you're using before.
I think you make great videos keep them coming 😁
the regular format is fine, but occasionally one of the no cut formats would be good too... I liked that it wasn't slick and trimmed out...
