Despite being such an iconic and cool setting there are not a lot of War of the Worlds games out there. It would fit perfectly as a strategy game or maybe action adventure, but for some reason not a lot of developers have tried to put it in a game. In 2020 a small studio DID actually try this and the result is Grey Skies. Now though I commend them for finally releasing a game with War of the Worlds as a setting, the game itself unfortunately is quite lacking. The development team consisted of only two people and maybe this project was a bit too ambitious. Though the game is definitely atmospheric, it lacks the most iconic War of the Worlds encounters with the Tripods only being in the game twice. Besides that you mostly have to sneak and avoid zombie type enemies that are not that interesting. Some sections like the walking after the plane crash or driving around at night take a bit too long without anything actually happening. The few tripod sections that the game DOES have are very fun and I just wished the game had more of those.

This honestly looks like it has potential, I was just reading an article where the dev said he's going to remaster the game and take all feedback on board.
They released a sequel. Now you play a guy with a gun trying to repair a martian gun for reasons.
Seems like an incredibly empty game. More like a concept demo than a final product. To truly feel the magnitude of an apocalyptic alien invasion there has to be a lot of NPC crowds getting exterminated with you in the middle of it trying to survive. Would make for a balanced adventure of action and stealth based on the different scenarios like we see in the film. This game just feels very off from what i would expect out the this universe. There's a ton of potential here but this should be scrapped and totally redone in my opinion. Still, for a small team this is pretty good work.
You should check out the new war of the worlds game that'll be coming out next year, it's pretty sick. The aliens and machines act just like how they do in the movie, but it's an open world survival game.
I feel it's empty because most of the people are on main roads away from neighborhoods

To be fair this game was made by two people. It's hard to make a good game by yourself without any funding. The fact that 2 people made this game as good as it is, is impressive.
It is sad that the game is lacking, because if this is the labour of just two people they deserve an applause just for the sheer effort it must have taken.
Still, completely agree on the lack of games for the setting,given that it could be an interesting take on surival, strategy etc. More so when there are things like the fake documentary "The Great Martian War" or the "War of the Worlds: Goliath" animated movie.
Yeah, you can see that they meant well, but it was simply too ambitious. I definitely also will do a video with commentary on it soon to give some more of my thoughts. This was simply footage for if I review it. It's a shame that the setting isn't used so much. I own XCOM the Bureau but never have played it. I guess that is kinda close to that feeling? Though it doesn't have tripods, it has the older setting and aliens invading. Might give that a try next.

Whenever the character was in the buildings, I half expected the tripods little camera/light thing to appear (the ones that they use to see/hunt humans that are hiding inside buildings).😰

That was interesting & undeniably creepy & suspenseful in places, but also very… GRIM. For those who know it & have played it - it reminded me a lot of “Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture”

This game really just ended up being like those ads for mobile games you see on youtube. Shows you a kick ass game only to have the ACTUAL game be anything but. This was a complete waste of $14 USD. You only really encounter the tripods a couple times throughout the whole game.
My spine hurts just thinking about walking crouched like that for more than five seconds! (See 2:00:30 or pretty much any other point) And why does it look like she shoved a pair of cats down the back of her pants?

What Ominous Hippy Dippy music for such a beautifully constructed game, glad to see the music improves down the road, would be nice if there was a gun or two.

there is a more..."canonical" war of the worlds game in progress on steam. this looks like a unpolished gem in the rough. but its being outdone by the more accurate one being made
There’s another official one being made licensed by paramount and joint with spilberg in his universe so it ties with the movie, no like looks f ing epic

My only complaints are that there are mind controlled humans roaming around instead if aliens outside of the tripod and that the game can be a bit difficult at times.
The tripod pilots cannot survive the earths bacterial environment. They are only able to operate within the tripod
Dont know how they went with this game. But in the book the martians could barely move on their own. Earth gravity was to much for them.
What engine is this based on? Unity? lol
All the places she could've crashed near, it had to be near Castleton UK didn't it. I mean it's bloody convenient, plenty of places to hide up their. I'd love to try and see the martians climb up Mam Tor. Slip and slide for tripods here we come.

these 3 legs aliens robots looks amazing n scarier if available for fallout 4 as a mod! it would make the game so much much better
so much potential for this game to be great. and the genre really needs it. but it seems like it has an abusive overuse of "music" for "mood setting" and "atmosphere"?. wtf is wrong with game devs. i play games to play games for adventure and action and all the sights and sounds that should go with it, not to listen to a music video of game devs select choice 'edgy-cool' flavor of the month music tracks. too many video games are more like a damn MTV music video than a video game
while i can agree some games definitely work better with minimal music , some games have amazing soundtracks written by godly composers , i feel like theres a time and place for a game to have music and this is one where minimal to no music is best , but that being said there are a lot of games where the music enhances the gameplay and adds to the atmosphere rather than takes it away
@@keisui89 I agree. Some games definitely go great with a [great] music soundtrack. The first game that comes to my mind is ATV Offroad Fury. Old game from the late 90s, early 2000s. That game has a kick-ass music soundtrack I love almost every song on there and imo it goes great with the game play. So many songs on that soundtrack and so many of them are good songs
This should have just been the demo. I think they should have gotten more inspiration from the movie aswell in order to attract some of its audience.
Like the tri pod camera, aliens and the game needs more action. I know it's a survival horror but it needs something to switch up the pace or it just feels empty and that your always waiting for something that's not coming.
I love games like this. I'm a person with a GoPro camera tagging along with the main character. Am I playing the game or telling the main character what to do? I have to classify games like this, "We Games" or "Tag Along" games. Games presented like this one need to have an option in Settings where I can switch to an objective first-person view. To sum up my feelings: Games produced like this are not what I would call true-life games. In other words: I do not like or play games like these.
It's like someone took the musical aspect of film making they used in supernatural, and pulled a "Shrek", said ,"Like tha's evr guna happn" and wiped their asses with the page they just ripped out of a book only to realize that it might be cool to use but the page was too damaged to read so they threw a piece of swiss cheese on it and read what wasn't covered, and it said this.

And then put the most pretentious wannabe dramatic crap on a walking simulator that is a loose plagiarism of a story that takes NO EFFORT to get right. Devs spent more effort on screwing up the ONE thing that people like about WoTW and that's ATMOSPHERE.
They didn't reinvent the wheel, they replaced it with a cactus that's been used as one of the Kardashians dildos.

I followed the walkthrough completely. I have three water jugs created and I'm ready to throw it at the generator. HOW do a get the water jug to throw it? I hit Q to get it but it doesn't appear.

I really hope they do because the concept of a war of the worlds game is really interesting as you don't see it much I'm playing darker skies and if they fix the glitches I think these game will be really good
There are a lot of similar elements to this and Darker Skies on Playstation, menus, character movies, crafting items, etc. Perhaps it was based on this game, not sure.

@MugiwaraPrime that would explain some things. So Gray Skies takes place during the war. Darker Skies is more or less after the war when most of the aliens are wiped out.

This game sucks I know I never actualy played it but its just a zombie game replace the zombies with aliens and or probes and boom done you have a war of the worlds game this...I'd raver go back to fragile dreams don't get me wrong fragile dreams is a great anime horrer game but after all the trouble I went through I'm never doing it again.
