I did this when I was a kid, after a week of fishing ended up losing are hooks on the rugged terrain of the big island hawaii so I made the same hook with a soda tab. Worked good for tiny fish but anything a pound plus would bend it easily, even smaller fish with a lot of action and fight would destroy the soda tab

Hey MM, look at the way the hook is rotating away from the the direction the line is pulling from. The point should be parallel with the line. You can see this when you are holding the hooked fish up by the line. You should have tied the knot tied on the opposite side of the hook, as shown in the thumb nail. This would cause the point to rotate into throat of the hook rather than away.

Mike, Brian I have made one of those before when you're cutting the part to make the sharp point of the hook you need to cut it just a tiny bit to make a little Barb and you need to wire Harden the whole tab just use your pliers or a hammer and tap on the whole entire thing it will wire Harden it and help it to stiffen up ✌
That's sweet when in doubt use soda can tabs. You should do a survival video on that.

You need to turn the lead knot on the upfront of he hook for leverage and effectively hook the fish.

Ya I mean he could have just caught a fish put the hook through and put it back in the water for the content. Plus he kept saying he had to be gentle or the can top would bend but then he held the fish up by the line after hooking him full weight lol
@shay plain yea but he could have caught one, put it through it’s mouth and throw it back in
@shay plain yea the hook was too perfectly in the soft lining of its mouth. That big chunky hook could never penetrate that. The only chance this hook would have would be if it got into the gills or was fully swallowed by the fish. It is nowhere near sharp enough to pierce the hard skin of any type of fish
