- Today we're going to be checking out the Boox Tab Mini C, a new color Kaleido-based E-Ink tablet from Boox. I expect this to be similar to the Boox Tab Ultra C, but in a more every day carry oriented size. Let's take a look and see who this device might be right for.

Ordered and returned both the Tab Ultra C and Tab Mini C. Both were too heavy for my preference and software was clunky and had the same glitches logging into the Play store and other apps. I finally went with an Apple IPad Mini 6 and loving it for reading and notes. Boox devices should be less expensive considering the quality and user experience. Thank you for reviewing.
I was also very surprised at how heavy the Mini is. There’s a premium on e-Ink devices at the moment. For reading and writing they are the best, but for other things an iPad is just a smoother experience.
I’m typing this on an ipad but my ultra c is coming today from amazon, so i can return it if the benefit doesn’t justify the price
Was wondering the same.. i have ipad mini, but thinking of buying 8" epaper device for reading if its considerably lighter than ipad mini

Then you're looking for a full tablet, not an e-ink reader. This is for those looking for an e-ink reader with a tablet-like experience.
I have viewed several other reviews of this device and there is the common complaint about the weight. But my Kindle Paperwhite with its cover on weighs more and is thicker and it is a smaller device. The Tab Mini C can more easily be removed from its case than the Kindle, so I don’t think the weight issue is a great negative at all.

Can you share your e ink center settings for reader? It was pretty quick here. I have had problems finding what I think works best for Reader. Thanks!
I think you need to set the right expectations when purchasing these devices. They are not designed to use as a normal android tablet but solely for reading and simple note taking only. So if you care about the software and lag on the screen, you shouldn’t pick a device like this at the first place
I liked tour review. I want an ereader which i can also take notes on but with good powerlife and google play store as well, preferably easily portable, what would you recommend?

I wish I could get the tab mini home screen on my Nova Air C. I hate the side bar that the Air C has and love the normal tablet app layout.
The win for me is that I can run Kindle, nook, duolingo, and Notion. The device costs about the same as a kindle and a nook combined. I buy mostly art books and magazines or I would be more into the Palma
My tab mini c have system software problem can i re install full system software
The e ink phones are great, though expensive. I think i have to go with the nokia g22, cheap and does the job, yet, the older hisense is cheaper does it do the same job and ,ouders phones?
does it has split screen/split view mode

Thanks for this review. Suggestion: I’d love to see how responsive the device is, but you’ve edited out many of the delays. One of the issues I have with my current device is how slow it is the register my clicks.

I don’t know what I should get. I want an e reader that I can write on I also really only love the kindle app. I like the backlight because I do read at night and dark spaces. I would like a smoother experience. I am think about the books air 3 c or the kindle scribe I love the idea of the supernote but there is no backlight. Thoughts?
If you are almost exclusively Kindle then definitely start with the Scribe.
Since you have them, which do you prefer and why: Supernote A5X, reMarkable 2, Kindle Scribe, Boox Note Air 2 Plus. Focus on note taking but love to hear bonus features that make you pick one over the others. I have the first three and thinking about Air 2 Plus
If you’re focus is note taking then you already have the best in the remarkable and Supernote. I would only steer you to the Boox if you feel you need additional Android apps.

What are our freedoms on annotating books with boox? Boox looks to be a better option for me than a kindle since im a big audiobook/library ebook app person, but i want to know if i can make notes with highlights, bookmark highlights, categorize bookmarks, etc
So you can’t do all of those things including writing on the pages of the books in EVERY reading app, except Kindle. That’s not a Boox issue, it’s a Kindle thing. Because it’s like that across the board regardless of what device you use kindle books. Only exception would be “pirated” books on your kindle app. I have a friend who has a few documents and the kindle app will let them annotate directly on the pages of those. But the kindle app will let you highlight, underline, bookmark and add tabs for your annotations/comments
If you could only keep one, would you choose the tab ultra c or tab mini c? Thanks for your time.
This is going to be very use case dependent, but if I could only have one tablet I would grab the Ultra C because I can do more with it.

What're your feelings on the Tab Mini C and Ultra C running Android 11? Do you concerns about their security and usability, as a more complex e-Ink device, going forward?
1. You’ll have to make your own decision about risk tolerance. 2. There are better people to comment on this than I, but as long as it continues to get security updates and you’re not a high profile figure or doing illegal activity, then I think it will be secure enough for most users.

Hmmm this seemed good in theory but seeing how much customization needs to be done to get it to behave I’d rather just stick with my kindle
If most of your reading is Kindle, then you can save a ton of money sticking with it.

Boox Palma
I'm really divided on whether I should get the palma or this one...
It really comes down to do you want a pocket reader, or a traditional paperback book size
I purchased my Mini C because of 1. its size (fits in my jacket pocket), 2. it is backlit and 3. the battery last much longer that my iPad mini Gen 6 (the battery is always empty, and Mini C weighs the same as iPad mini). correct me if I am wrong, based on my research There is no e-ink tablet that has these three characteristics!

You said It is backlit. But their site says it is Frontlit. Are you sure? Please reply as it helps in deciding. Thanks.

I just want the Palma, it's the best size for an e reader.
The Palma is significantly lighter than this. The Tab Mini C is heavy.
You have blasted the screen with the backlight, it's not a fair comparison battery and eye comfort wise, compared to other devices which are whiter by default.
The devices are on auto brightness so they are going to appear very bright when the filming lights are on. My point was you can compensate for the screen’s naturally blue tone.
My man, I've been asking questions about the Boox use case for months. I keep notes on unanswered questions and know for sure I asked one on May 24 of this year. What can I do differently to get an answer from you? I see you replying to other comments all the time.

Good info, but please stop making small video edits when you’re messing with settings. It’s jarring and hard to follow when I’m trying to make the same edits on my device.
Thanks for the feedback Mark. I’ve been cutting pauses to try to keep the videos tight, but I can see how that would be frustrating in this scenario. Noted
DON'T BUY FROM BOOX
After 2 months of having my Mini Tab C the screen breaks. After talking to customer service they claimed there was some external force that caused it and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. This was in their case in a bookbag with other sensitive electronic none of which had an issue like this. They said I can pay another $270 to fix it. I think I'll just take the loss of $400 before it ends up being a loss of $670.
Color 150 ppi, No thanks.

@@mcdo0gal1985there is no better option for color eink, from what I have seen they are all color 150ppi, black 300ppi.
I don't have one I can't tell if 150ppi is noticeable compared to a sharp 300ppi black.
