    Will, great video which made me feel I was out there with you! Looking at the gear in the 'Rover you could easily open a Photographic shop in the rover. I particularly admired that door set up as much as the camera and lens in it!!! Great shots of the Secretary bird Will Thank you for such beautifully shot and descriptive video's. This one took me back to beautiful Kenyatta land!.

      Thanks Paul! Yeah, I have too much stuff, I try to pare it down but making these videos makes it tricky. When people ask me what camera bag I use, I joke that it's green and weights 2.5 tons :) Glad to hear that it brings back some memories.

    One of the aspects of your photography I appreciate is that you do what you have to do to get the shot you've already pictured in your mind. So many of my photography friends just go to shoot what comes along without any plans or expectations Of course you have to be prepared for the pop-up opportunity but they don't even expect it and are not really looking.

      Thanks a lot Kurtis, although I can't claim I always head out there with a shot in mind :) I do try to have a goal in mind when I can though. Especially, if it's something that I can somehow predict or anticipate. Nature photography always spits up surprises and reacting quickly is a big part of it, but then trying to level the playing field can really pay off.

      Thanks! Are there opportunities on the streets of Seoul? I would love to photograph urban wildlife - but feel it is too dangerous here because of crime.

    One of your best yet, this was fascinating to watch, beautifully filmed and put together and the images are all wonderful! I really enjoyed seeing the Meerkats and the Secretary bird. I love your new thumbnails, unique and strong design. 👍Great to see you doing well!

      Thank you so much Liesl! So kind of you to watch and leave a comment. Yes, meerkats are cool aren't they :) I wish I managed to get a little more footage of them There is clan on a farm that inhabits an old building with grafitti on the walls - how I wish I could stake them out!! Thanks for the feedback on the thumbs - I wanted to make them more recognisable but without the need to pull stupid faces :)

    Good Afternoon Will, my name is Mike Herrmann I am a committee member of the Sherborne Bradford Abbas Camera Club in Dorset England. I really enjoyed this video and your relaxed delivery. Since the pandemic has curtailed a lot of our club's activities we have been going to virtual meetings and I was wondering whether you would be able to give a talk to our club by video conferencing. I am also on the committee of the photography groups of the Royal Automobile Club in London, we have 1100 members in the photography club, would you be able to give us a talk on the same basis? I look forward to hearing from you. Mike

    Hello Will great video. I will use your advice to photograph silhouettes of wild horse on an island near my house well near is about 50kms. I just ordered a Nikon 300mm f4 AF-S hopefully together with my ghillie suit and some luck will serve me well. I hope you have found your new house and are ready to hit the bush. I am hopefully flying to Egypt in November to visit my brother stay safe best of luck

      Hi Felix, congratulations on the new lens and good luck in the ghillie suit! Thankfully, Basil does that job for me :) Not yet been able to hit the bush. It's a difficult logistics problem to figure out with my Dad needing constant attention and care.

    Are you shooting with the 400 f2.8?

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bob, yes that is correct (400 F2.8 Mark ii)

    Very nice; esp. the silhouettes. Their noise also seems reasonably absent/well controlled (at least on utube) what ISO where you shooting at (on the 5DIV)? Any special post processing ?

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dimitris Tsagdis Ooh I cant remember I’ll go and find out for you (its a 5D3 so anlittle older than the 5D 4) I don’t really worry that much about noise - and on youtube its a non issue

    • @dimitristsagdis7340
      @dimitristsagdis7340 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Goodlet tnx by the way are the silhouettes with your 500 f/4 ? without 1.4x?

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok these are mostly shot at ISO6400 and with -1 EV Exposure Bias. Noise doesn't really matter in these shots because there is no detail. You can also drop the silhouette to almost black and the orange sky is very easy to clean up because it is a single uniform colour.

    If I have one missed shot that still haunts me, it's a silhouette I missed on my first photo safari to the Serengeti. We were up very early headed to the park and the sun was starting to make itself known. On the horizon in perfect silhouette was a lone giraffe in perfect position facing right and with the morning glow just to its front. It was there and gone and being new to the photo-safari culture I was reluctant to tell our driver to stop. My relationship with our guide/driver was not well defined. I've never made that mistake again. I still see that image in my minds eye. At least I have that.

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've painted the picture well and I can see it too. The important thing is to have been there to witness it. I've often done the same thing. It's why I prefer driving myself in general - I can only ever blame myself then!

    Are there any large predators in Rietvlei?

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +W-James it’s part of the endangered wildlife trust cheetah breeding program we had two females and an imported male - the. First cheetah had 4 cubs and before they could catch the male he’d got the second female pregnant with 6 cubs. You can imagine the effect on the antelope of 13 cheetahs!! They have been re homed in Malawi while the antelope recover for a couple of years. There is a Brown hyena but incredibly hard to find and many Jackal, and a family of serval
