In 1972 I was a freshman in college studying theatre and I was sent to direct the lighting for Miss Gish who was doing a lecture on her career. She was a really nice person, wasn't at all demanding and a joy to talk to and work with. After her performance she came up to me and gave me a kiss to thank me. I still have the program she autographed for me.
I always found her so beautiful. That old theater is a pretty building; I hope it doesn’t get torn down. Same with the house; should be restored and preserved as a historical landmark. Thank you for this visit!
Thats the old Regent Theatre on South Limestone Street. It opened in 1912 and closed in 1992. The stone balustrade is missing from the rooftop cornice, as well as the marquee above the entrance, which had the the name REGENT spelled out vertically in huge caps making it almost twice the height of the building itself!
This was a terrific tribute to the Gish sisters, and so great the house is still there. The mural must be one of the best you have shown us. Thank you for another great vlog and for introducing me to the story of Davey Moore. Greatly appreciated.
How thrilled to see this blog on the Gish sisters, especially Lillian She was my Father's second cousin and then met in the late 30's at a Gish reunion held in Lancadter Co PA We had another reunion in 1976 my sister Lillian invited her but she was rehearsaling for a play !!She commented on her note to my sister how it strange writing back to another Lillian Gish!! That's a very popular name in the Gish family. I loved her in the Night of the Hunter, Whales of August and the classic The Birth of a Nation. She also rented the infamous Sharon Tate's home for awhile. Also enjoyed the blog on Mr Moore. You are my fave blogger and again thanks. Cindy Gish
Hi Jordan, lovely to see your Grandpa and the Jahster. That mural really stands out with those colors. What beautiful old photos of Lillian & Dorothy through the years. Nice statue of Davey. Great vlog Jordan.
The boxer who fought Roberto Duran was a different Davey Moore. He lost his championship to Duran in 1983 and also died tragically a few months later in a car accident.
What a legend! She was spectacular in the movie "Night of the Hunter" directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum. She was a classic and I wish more people knew her legend. Thanks Jordan! 😊☺️🥰❤️🌴🦩☀️
@@DazewithJordantheLion Definitely! Ever notice she drowned in 3 movies: The Poseidon Adventure, A Place in the Sun and Night of the Hunter? Interesting......
Lillian Gish had an ethereal beauty and was a brilliant actress as well. Her performances in "The Wind" and "Way Down East" were amazing! One of my favorites from the silent era.
Just in case..... Lillian Gish was in a movie called Duel in the Sun with Gregory Peck, Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotton, and Lionel. Barrymore. Peck and Jones play against type. He's a great villain. It's an epic western. There's great performances there.
I was born and raised in Ohio and I had no idea the Gish sisters were from there. What a wonderful segment this was including the boxer Davey Moore. Didn’t realize Springfield and Troy had such a rich history. The mural behind the Regal was so well done. Who was the artist? I may have missed that. Thank you!
A record of 100-7! That's bloody amazing. That's probably a contributing factor. Afterall, how can one really have a brutal career for long. The last fight may just have been the last straw. Great job on the Gish story. I found the original "Regent" paint the most moving. How could have survived this long. Just amazing.
Born and reared in Springfield I totally enjoy your vlogs about my heart-hometown. I live now in Mississippi. Seeing the arch at Snyder Park at the end of Western Ave made my heart skip a beat as you were at that point in my childhood neighborhood. Thanks !
Lived in Troy for quite a few years. It is great to see all the hometown areas! Hope you are having fun visiting and it's great to be with your grandpa! What great history in Springfield. I hope they will open this theatre back up and not tear it down.
Lillian Gish was such a beautiful lady, sometimes I wish I could go back in time to see these actors that were in silent films and that time in Hollywood. There is a silent film actress buried in Old Lyme, CT at the Duck River Cemetery. I also have a great uncle that was in silent films - such a classic time in movie history, thank you for showing her home, I can just picture her there.
Awesome Mural. Beautiful town. It's nice they have a Statue, street and park named for Davey Moore. Glad you and grandpa went out for lunch. Always a good sign of how good the food is if you get some all over you. Lol. Jah runs for no dog. Lol. They both so darn cute. Thank you for this wonderful vlog. Loved seeing where you came from. Thank you for all you do for us. You make my days brighter with the outside world you bring inside for me to see. Take care and you and your family stay safe, and God bless.
Beautiful towns love the countryside! Love the history. My uncle and aunt were part of that form of theater organization. Bob Hope, Phil Harris (among others) were good friends of his. Wish he was still alive the stories he could tell you! My Aunt booked all the big bands! Love the collie at the end with JAH! TY!
Loved Lillian Gish, such a tremendous actress, loved “Night of the Hunter”, yes Shelley Winters was such a beauty in this Robert Mitchum played a purrfect bad A$$, ty for all you do😎love the way Jah stands his ground, such a sad story about Davy Moore I was unaware glad you brought it to light
Hey Jordan! Huge fan love your videos! Wanted to ask if you had any plans on doing a Titanic video? It's April, and I think it would be super cool if you did one!
That was a very entertaining video; you tell a story well. You probably already know this, but Liilian Gish starred in a movie with Shelley Winters..."The Night of the Hunter".
Its always reat to seeyou and your grandpa together. Lillian was an amazing actress along with her sister who commanded the silent screen both in her young life and old.
That's a nice looking old theater. Seems like I have heard the name Lillian Gish before, I'm not as knowledgeable on silent screen actors as I am sound actors. Shame about Davey Moore. I never knew where he was buried and didn't realize that he was that young. Have a great day Jordan.
Dynasty, the Carrington's the show the granddaughter looks so mush like Lillian Gish amazing. glad the wife of Moore didn't hold a grudge towards Sugar Ramos. thanks Jordan and Jah...what a nice backyard pretty dog

10:20 Broken Blossoms wrecked me 😭 I saw it many years ago when it was recommended in my film history class. Beautiful film, just so heartbreaking 😢
Your trips to Ohio are informative by introducing the rest of the country to past performers such as Lillian Gish. Night of the Hunter is a classic

Oh wow, poor Davey! 💔
I’m kinda surprised you didn’t mention that the Smashing Pumpkins album “Gish” is named in honor of the Gish sisters.
