I graduated in 1957. :). A new school has been (second time) built to resemble the one with the tower. Go to Hoover Groover on Facebook to keep fairly current. Or contact me the creator of this TH-cam video...Chuck Hansen. Here is a link: facebook.com/groups/640142066020123/

Class of 1988... Just remember the odd collection of "bunker" style newer buildings, temporary bungalows around the outer parameter, and remnants of the old Hoover architecture...😐

I wish I could have been born in a different era, so that I may attend at Hoover during this era. It was beautiful with it's original architecture, and it's a shame there weren't modern retro-fitting techniques in place to help preserve the school's original look. Hoover and San Diego High both suffered this fate.

Indians believe the place you most miss will still be there for your last dance. But they would have destroyed Hoover even to erect a crackerbox, that 's ghe kind of graft which always fuels local goverment. We'd need another Works Progress Admin to create a new Hoover like the old one. But in many decades, the happiest dreams all happened there. It was funny in mid-60's for all those private homes to be side by side with Hoover shops and classrooms:).

Class of 67 inherited a bunch of Hoover trads we didn't really recognize. Social center of building complex was "Kat's Korner" from the age of pre-rock (40's). The ground-floor intersection of the hall going N from the Library and the hall running E/W and out the door to the English-History Bldg. Blue Bomber Jackets and constant Beatle/4 Seasons Music, eclectic LT rumblings:). All the social kids hung there. Mr. Vinson's English class was on the SE corner. That's why in "Cloud Song" I had Kathryn Dzamafe naming her (HHHS:KMAY) radio show "Kat's Korner". She was one of the popular kids:). I think mainly I wrote four books because I missed Hoover, and was so happy to be there after St. Augustine;). www.lulu.com/spotlight/chloecrypto Hoover is worth missing, never doubt:). Hope the new Tower is worthy. If not now, it will be later, COUNT on Cardinals:).

@@chloecrypto7947 It's not quite the same, but they did end up rebuilding the tower and 3-story main entry building recently, as well as updating the Auditorium to be somewhat close to the original Hoover structures. It gave me relief to see the "crackerbox" main office from my era get torn to the ground a couple years back, and now kids attending in this era get a version of Hoover that is more inspired by the original.

San Diego was still good in 1975. But the slipping started, still not too noticeable for many.

@sdcheapshot The building codes have been improved since the school was built in 1933. We live in an earthquake zone and are overdue for a major earthquake here in San Diego.

Not Earthquake Safe - Maybe Hoover was and that's a maybe ........ BUT San Diego High built out of Stone , Rock etc !! It took Dynamite and Jack Hammer's to tear it down - I doubt the "New" SD High is any safer !! And when they rebuilt Hoover , it looked like a "Prison" - No Character or Style. But then they rebuilt again a few years - They did modern Spanish look updating the Original Hoover - But still didn't get it right ....... THEY SHOULD HAVE REBUILT THE ORIGINAL"HOOVER HIGH" 3 STORY MAIN BUILDING , AUDITORIUM AND BEEL TOWER IDENTICAL TO WHAT I ATTENDED in 1962 TO 1965. But No they had to improve it with a new modern spanish look which is nice BUT they had a chance to bring the Original Herbert Hoover High School. It's sad that America will never have the History of Europe because "WE" are always tearing down and rebuilding new. But looking on the bright side - at least Hoover does not look like a Reform School/Prison anymore.
