I don't really listen to metal core. I listen to bands like Megadeth, Metallica, pantera, iron maiden etc. however August burns red is a very respectable band. I have seen them play, and it's a shame musicians like these are given the recognition they deserve. A lot of old folk metal fans think only the old musicians are worth listening to, and players like this guy gives a good argument to that theory.
I just love JB from August Burns Red..been a fan now for about 5 years..have to say he is my fave guitarist ..shows alot of compassion and has forgive me for saying this...balls of steel lol..
This is the band I play for people when I try to convince them that "screamo" bands aren't just angry noise. I had never given ABR much thought over the years. I had heard Composure. Then I finally listened through Phantom Anthem and realized these guys are amazing. Not just because they can play fast notes, but because they have so much creative and musical talent. I listen to Float over and over because of this.
Just saw them last Sunday in my hometown on the 20 year anniversary tour. It was amazing meeting JB and talking about gear with him! Even caught his pick and a bottle of water that he threw to me 😂 such an amazing and down to earth dude!
Awesome guitarist. Enjoy how you go from one dynamic od metal and breakdown to the cleans with reveb and chorus and then back into the metal. God Bless
Talking about lighter stuffs, I was hoping ABR will at some point of time release one of its acoustic version track just like BTBAM's Colorblind. Kinda like those :D
4:28, Fishman Fluence. www.fishman.com/products/series/fluence/ What does JB mean those are digital pickups? How are they different from regular pickups?
I preordered Found in far away places and I'm excited about getting it. But the wake sounds very similar to everything that's on Rescue and restore. Identity sounds like a new style for August burns red and its my favorite single released so far.
How do you have found in far away places now? I preordered the new CD and haven't even received an e-mail about shipping yet. Are you talking about you have Rescue and restore or Found in far away places?
I use a EVH 5150 with a 8 string Shecter Guitar I was always about playing metal now I’m leaning to a Santana and Jimi Hendrix style with a bit of metal as well
I'm sure he knows that Fluence pickups aren't digital now but just imagine how shocked he probably was or would be when or if he found out they function the same way as a regular pickup but constructed completely different. I nearly choked when i found out about the tech myself lol
I talked to him and Brent about the fluences vs EMGS when I saw them a few days ago, Brent said that they had A/Bd them in the studio and they didn’t hear much of a difference, even then, I want to get a set of fluences myself and try them on my own
@@maddoxmay611 i definitely recommend giving them a go, i personally believe Voice 1 gives you more dynamic character than a traditional EMG, and a really good way to achieve that dynamic character is by boosting the pickups with some kind of clean midrange boost pedal wether it be a TC Electronics Spark booster, Walrus Audio Warhorn, Electric Eye Audio Mudkiller with the pre gain circuit switch turned off, etc. Of course you could use tube screamers or other overdrives like the Maxon OD808 or the Boss SD-1 and still get good results, but even then i'll argue that Voice 2 sounds miles better than voice 1 with a TS or OD style pedal. Both voicings are definitely worth trying out though, that way you get a better idea of how you can shape your tone and experiment a little bit.
@@Stretchwreckedem469 I agree 100% I have a tube screamer but I mostly use a built in od808 through my line 6 pod go, I want to get JB’s new black Ibanez sig and I might put fluences in it and see how I feel about them, I’ve tried them in the store many a time but I want to see the difference when I use my rig at home
im planning on investing on a really good overdrive pedal, and i heard him say something about an Ibanez TS9. I looked it up and it was $100, a little steep for my budget. Does anyone know of a pedal thats pretty comparable for a price a little cheaper? Reply some suggestions please. Thanks!
+KevinFromInFamous14k Most pedals are around that price so...unless you get it used off of ebay in not-so-perfect condition, that's just about the lowest price you're gunna get :P
Hey man, here are some options under 100: MXR Badass or Custom Badass MXR Distortion+ Any Joyo distortion pedal (true bypass, sound great and under 50 each!)
I know how he feels on the whole not listening to so much heavy music and branching out on mellower stuff. Don't get me wrong PURE FUCKIN METAL all the way but I like the mellowness as well. Real musicians listin a broad spectrum of music.
I cant use my pinky i cut it when i was 9 years and the doctor putt it back. I cut it when iwas a service in roman catholic and is hard play guitar with pinky i still have the finger but it feel numb when i put pressure .
Great interview Great song writer But i got one question, how can you be unique, while you are using the same gear that most of metalcore and hardcore band use I m talking abou Mesa Boogie cab 4×12 loaded with Vintage 30, and Axe FX? In my opinion to sound diferent you should have diferent gear, you got unique hands but the gear gived you the same as others
So your telling me the one of the best (opinion) guitarist in the genre didn’t start playing guitar until he was 18
Tom Scholz from Boston didn't start playing until he was 21 and recorded "Foreplay/Long Time" a year later
He’s for sure one of the best g-players in the genre.
No bro its not opinion. Thats hard fact. He is one among the God guitarists.
" becuase I was super hardcore back then "
ChemicalxSorrow lol back then you know, so what has he leveled up since then or ust eveolved completely?
ChemicalxSorrow I was sure someone pointed out this comment lol. I laughed so hard when I heard it!
Name a scene kid that didn't talk like that back when
He's one of my favorite guitarists!
He actually gave me a guitar pick!! I agree hes an amazing guitarist I got such a sic picture of him!!
As someone who started guitar relatively late, last year of highschool, it's inspiring to see a skilled player that didn't start when they were six.

With your music tastes, you would absolutely love Trivium
I agree this guy is the most underated guitar player ive ever listened too. Alot of his stuff so much more complex than alot of these 80’s players.
This guys style of playing is so unique and he is a legend!
He looks like he just graduated though...
He never ages!
3:54 "rawgh" so inspiring
Definitely inspiring to hear when he started playing and how he progressed.
FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!! Jb is wearing shoes everyone knows he only wears flip flops
It's a clone... or a hologram
He is smart, doesn't have to worry about stinky shoes on tour
I just love JB from August Burns Red..been a fan now for about 5 years..have to say he is my fave guitarist ..shows alot of compassion and has forgive me for saying this...balls of steel lol..

It's hard to find a band that sounds just like ABR, aside from ABR.
+xXUnoriginalNameXx33 they sometimes sound like converge and viceversa :V
Try Texas in July
rip tij
there are a lot of similar sounds, but each is their own. Both extremely great bands. Good reference man!
converge? XD
His transparency is awesome. Love it, Love the new album!
ABR is cool and all but can we point out this is a rare occasion JB is actually wearing shoes? :P
ABR has a very distinct sound; very noticeable and unique. Love it.
Jeez, that Marianas Trench intro sounds just as dramatic when he's not even plugged in...
***** wireless, dont speak if you dont understand about guitar

Guntoro Nuari
Unplugged* Don't argue if you don't understand English ;)

I want an interview with ABR's china cymbal
wtf lmfao!
that dog scared the crap out of me
Hes right about being unique, they do have a signature sound and superb songwriting.
The pinky has a function! Now I need to convince the brain :)
RabidTweak I feel you hey😂😂😂
Thank you for this!
Dude starts playing AFTER high school. Buys Ibanez starter kit.
Right. Total talent bro. Great story.
Jason Bradley But he is talented. What's wrong with buying an Ibanez starter kit as a graduation present?
we all start somewhere :p
Exactly ^
But this gobshite seems to think differently. lmfao
Jason Bradley because how much talent you have on guitar is justified by what guitar brand you use .-.
talent means nothing, everyone's skills are justified by how hard they work and dedication
JB and Brent do more with 6 strings than most bands with 7+ strings.
Yes it's true
Awesome video AP/August Burns Red! Nice to know that big bands are using some of the same gear i can has! Pretty awesome stuff!
the greatest guitarist i ever seen! vfery talented!
That Ibanez is gorgeous.
keep doing what your doing man! I'll be at bogharts on valentine's day! can't wait!
wtf he learned after high school and he's THAT good!!!?? maybe there is still hope for me...
Why the hell didn't you have him plug his guitar in? Lol
Seth Taylor he's not even talking when he's playing though
Because they’re amateurs who don’t know what they’re doing
I just folded that same shirt and put it away tonight haha. Good sense of style 😁
Talking about lighter stuffs, I was hoping ABR will at some point of time release one of its acoustic version track just like BTBAM's Colorblind. Kinda like those :D
i want this guitar...it's awesome
Gotta love JB

a typical herpderp their style will never be generic
lol guess what buddy
Νίκος Παναγιωταράκης are you saying their new stuff is djenty? Lol
It's not "their" style to begin with, it's mediocre at best.
what song at 3:55?
+Logan Elliott Mariana's Trench
I can’t stop fixating on the fact that he holds his pick between his thumb and middle finger
I only stopped doing that a few weeks back cos I just couldn’t play pinch harmonics
GENERATIONS IS THE BEST
this guy is a fucking monster
Tons of guitar players don’t use their pinkies and it’s just because they can’t. Amazes me. USE YOUR PINKY.
Now what about 7-string stories? \m/
Nice Bean Boots JB.
Great interview
Great song writer

yaas
What does 'JB' stand for? i cant be the only person wondering...
I believe it stands for John Benjamin
