The USA cannot "deprive Israel of funding," but it can stop being a party to that funding. It can label Israel as a terrorist state and prohibit US citizens from sending money to Israel. It can sanction nations that continue to fund Israel. It can refuse to sell weapons to Israel. It can recognize Palestine as a state, and it can break diplomatic relations with Israel. The USA should also state that Palestine has the right to defend itself.
Illinois House Bill 5819 risks voter suppression and wider political shifts.If made law by August, people protesting the Democratic National Convention in Chicago who are on main roads for more than 5 minutes could get a class 4 felony, and can lose voting rights by November. I know, this may seem like a crumb: The ripple effect for 3rd party candidates without at least 5% votes will have to stay at the shaky write-in status for some states if they lose votes, but progressive state representatives, etc. will also lose votes for their elections. (What is currently a misdemeanor, ( blocking traffic), is already a penalty.) According to Illinois law, if someone is in jail, prison, or convicted without time served, they cannot vote. (State restrictions vary.) After people get increasingly worked up over the summer, I hope cool heads prevail to stay aware of the laws, and speak up while also preserving rights to try to change things at the ballot. * Some states bar anyone with a felony charge from ever voting again. ( Hence, long range political shifts if it causes an exodus of progressive voters, or lasting suppression.) In no way am I trying to dissuade protests, only protect both free speech and voting power for the future with awareness and creative prevention. * At 13:26 of this video, I assumed the offensive nature of posing in potentially dead children's beds and women's underwear were blended? The distinction is the sadistic, misogynistic mockery of the women who had also been displaced and/or killed, much like the absent children. The context of soldiers sexualizing these women was the offense, NOT that they were wearing women's lingerie. ( Cross dressing in the movie, "Silence of the Lambs", perpetuated prejudice.) I suspect the layers of division intended might be similar to the use of the gay community in photos of an IOF proposing to his boyfriend among the ruins, or another holding a rainbow flag with words, " I did this for love" is another message that blocks allyship. It's disgraceful behavior in itself, no matter who does it, and especially since these jerks are not representing the wider LGBTQ, ( as they seem to be attempting to manipulatively do). Many people from a range of communities are rallying in solidarity with Palestinians, including LGBTQ.
I enjoyed this podcast (as usual) but I found it somewhat confusing. I needed to listen to this multiple times to make sense of it all. The first part that confused me is having 3 segments joined together in a non-linear way (at least to me). You had an intro/trailer from 0.00 to 0.55, then a patreon clip from 0.56 to 5.37 and then the regular podcast from 5.38 to the end. Second, I did not understand the relevance of Columbia University and Wall St history and other historical bits on Columbia with the points you guys were making. I also watched the Colonial Outcasts podcast titled "Germany's Crackdown on Pro-Palestine Dissent and It's Symbolic Importance" with Greg Stoker and Helen Fares. That was very enlightening and informative on the role of Germany in all of this from both an American of German descent viewpoint and a Syrian living in Germany viewpoint. Maybe you guys could provide something similar for France (and other countries).
