As I watched this video, there came a moment I had to pause all I was doing, to listen to the reviews Casey made of how he saw the team of military personnel after he returned from the flight. Men, and women from all backgrounds. As a Navy Retired Veteran myself (more proud to have served, for all of us), born in the Dominican Republic. I must say, yes this is the country of all nations as it was formed. Thanks for recognizing and admiring the professionalism of the military men and women. I salute you proudly (I think that as I was typing this I heard the US National Anthem humming in my brain). Awesome videos Ed.

Man, Casey was probably the best "boss" I've ever had. I was there in the beginning of genius garage and he taught me a lot about myself, professionalism, and what I don't want to be. I'm glad that he has done what he's done with the program, although it pains me that I see my plans being carried out by someone else. Much love to Casey and the crew, "till another day".

I bought my first Porsche for cash in 2006 fresh out of the Marines. It was pearl white 1985.5 944 with a black interior and a stick shift. That car was so much damned fun and a real head-turner. Still probably my favorite car, even after having my 1982 928 project car. Great story. Oh, the 944 died in a flood.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy growing up in that era when you could buy Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s for dirt cheap compared to what they sell for these days. I remember seeing a Countach at the dealership my dad bought his Corvette from and as much as I tried to get him to buy it ,he wasn’t having any of it and bought the Corvette he came their to buy. It wasn’t till I got older, that I found out that my dad had been into Corvettes and always wanted to own one,but when you’re married with 4 of us kids to take care of ,things like buying a Corvette, tend to get pushed to the side,in favor of more important things. Honestly, after I found out just how much my dad always wanted a Corvette, I respect him even more for all the overtime he put in at work to make sure we had everything we needed, while getting to save up some money for the car he always wanted and buying what he liked instead of a car that could potentially make him a profit down the road, that he pretty much knew absolutely nothing about, except for parts and having the car serviced were really expensive, compared to the cost and maintenance of a Corvette.

Casey, I enjoy all the stories from VinWiki but your story about the demise of your GT-40 transaxle, while sad brought back memories and a little smile. I really loved your experience and the story that came about because of your ownership of the GT-40, replica or not. Sadness because I think that the original GT-40 along with the Porche 917 are by definition two of the most fantastic modern sports machines ever. One would have to go to the blower Bentleys or the Dusenburg SJ to top them with any certainty. However, the wry smile comes from a memory. It was while I was stationed in Germany as a wrecker operator and was on my way to Hanau from Frankfurt am Main with a vehicle for 3rd shop in tow. On my way there I began to hear a whine that although loud would become less so when I used the clutch. Ergo I thought "clutch throw out bearing". I called in from my drop point and was advised by dispatch just to take my time and ease it back home. Deciding not to press my luck I stayed off the autobahn and was using secondary roads back to the shop. I was at a stop light which in due time indicated for me to proceed, which I did. I was about half way through the intersection when I heard this tremendous , loud bang and immediately lost all power. Coasting to the side of the road just past the intersection, I got out, walked around the rather large trail of oil which lead straight back from underneath my wrecker to the culprit laying nearly in the center of the intersection which even now people with their cars were dodging and retrieved what remained of the crank, connecting rod and piston out of number four hole of the Continental engine. The thing was larger than my forearm. So much for the throughout bearing synopsis.
They sent another tractor for me and by the time I returned to my own motor pool the had found another engine for my wrecker. Since I was considered an "Emergency Vehicle " it was decided to send a heavy lift helicopter to Stuttgart, sling load the engine in it's container and fly it back Rodelheim where my motor pool was located. About 125 miles each way. Meanwhile the old engine was removed and the engine compartment made ready to receive the new engine. The new engine in its crate arrived in due time was moved into the shop via forklift, a million or so bolts were removed from the air tight container and the overhead Crane was rigged to separate the upper and lower half of the shipping container. Which it did, revealing nothing but stale air. No new engine, not even spider webs. Inspections the following at Stuttgart revealed that out of 56 engines on inventory there were but two. The rest were empty. One of them was dutifully loaded on a trailer and driven to our shop. Two days later I was back in service. No one ever did find out what happened to the other engines that I know of. Just goes to show that regardless of how well you think you know your car and maintain said same, it can almost always have a troubling surprise for you. Just part of the history and situations that are all part of the ownership experience.

Just watching the This story on your blog about a Casey having his 1st 944 Porsche which is a funny Coincidence because that was my 1st car and my dad got it for me On my 12th birthday and it was basically was just a shell and he told me now you can get a job you can go out and buy the parts and put the car together yourself and do it with me and you can learn the value of actually owning a Porsche And knowing you've earned the right to own one!.. And basically from that day on I was hooked on Porsche 944..... What of the best track cars with the perfect 5050 weight distribution and easy upgrades just as long as you don't drive it like a maniac And blow your gearbox

Sure, everybody likes the 911 - and those that don't like the 944, however, I'll always have a sweet spot for the 928. Was it Scarface? Risky Business? Weird Science? Maybe one of those, maybe all of them - but somewhere along the way I just fell in love with that car. Timeless styling, still looks contemporary, even today.
